Emraan Hashmi's Wife, Dad Had Issues With His Intimate Scenes: 'I Made These Choices For…'
Emraan Hashmi once opened up about the 'serial kisser' tag, fan reactions, and why kissing scenes became his thing.
For over a decade, Emraan Hashmi owned a space in Bollywood that few dared to claim. From Murder and Zeher to Jannat, Gangster, Aksar, and Raaz: The Mystery Continues, his films weren't just known for chart-topping music and dark storylines – they also came with a now-iconic stamp: the kiss. Whether fans loved it, trolled it, or leaned into it as part of his identity, the 'serial kisser" tag stuck hard and fast. And Emraan knows it.
'I've realised that the serial kisser tag has become synonymous with me, and I'm not going to fight it," he said in a 2014 interview with Rediff, reflecting on a label that followed him from one role to the next, no matter how much his career evolved.
The actor admitted that expectations from his audience have shaped how they react to even the smallest detours from his usual on-screen persona. Sharing a moment from his film Tum Mile, he recalled, 'I was watching Tum Mile and we got to the scene in which Soha (Ali Khan) and I are alone together. Now, in a typical Emraan film, I'm supposed to kiss the girl. Here I don't, and I hear the person next to me go, 'Emraan Hashmi, yeh film main bimaar ho gaya tha kya?'"
That fan reaction may have been light-hearted, but for Emraan, it spoke volumes. 'It's become like Salman Khan not taking his shirt off in a film – the audience feels cheated."
He's well aware that every actor has a certain 'thing" that fans come looking for. And in his case, the kiss is just part of the package. 'Every actor has these 'things' that are symbolic and have to be done to keep the audience happy. Also it's a great thing. It's much better and more fun than taking off your shirt!"
But beyond the 'hot scenes' and sexy thrillers, Emraan has taken hits in other ways – like in Ghanchakkar, which completely subverted his action-hero image. Still, Emraan had no regrets.
As for how his family reacts to all the kissing talk? He said, 'They understand that it puts food on the table. My wife and my father have problems with me getting intimate every time, but they know that these are the choices I made for longevity's sake. They might not like it, but they understand it."

On whether she received film offers after marriage, Shilpa said, 'It wasn't the space when women would get roles after marriage… I wasn't such a big star. People were happy ki gayi toh gayi." She added that moving abroad without friends, living on a budget, and building a new life helped shape her. Emmy-nominated actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, best known for his portrayal of Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, has died at the age of 54. The actor tragically drowned while swimming at Playa Cocles on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, as confirmed by the country's Judicial Investigation Department. Warner, who was on vacation with his family, was pulled into deeper waters by a current. First responders found him unresponsive. Born on August 18, 1970, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Warner was just a teenager when he became a household name on The Cosby Show, which aired from 1984 to 1992. His performance as the charming and relatable Theo earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination in 1986. Decades later, he remained proud of his time on the show, once saying, 'We were still on top enough to go out on top, but we were ready to live our own lives." Warner was candid in later years about the impact of misconduct allegations against Bill Cosby, expressing that it saddened him how the show's legacy had been affected. 'In a few generations, the Huxtables will have been just a fairy tale," he said in 2015. But Warner's life and career extended far beyond the Huxtable living room.
