Sabah launches NADI Ambassador programme to boost digital literacy
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil highlighted that 50 UMS student volunteers were selected to participate in the programme. These ambassadors will also support MCMC's Safe Internet Campaign by educating communities on responsible internet use.
'Sabah was chosen due to its past internet infrastructure challenges during the pandemic. We have been addressing these issues through tower installations and WiFi expansions. Now, we are reinforcing digital literacy through this programme,' Fahmi said during the launch at UMS.
The NADI Ambassador initiative includes a two-day training session covering volunteerism fundamentals, NADI Smart Services, and cyber safety awareness. Upon completion, ambassadors will conduct briefings for schools, parents, and local entrepreneurs at 131 NADI centres across Sabah.
MCMC stated that 25 NADI centres have been matched with the hometowns of the volunteers to ensure localised outreach. The programme is set to expand to other universities nationwide in collaboration with student councils. - Bernama

MCMC acts to fix mobile coverage gap in Kampung Sungai Relai
KOTA BHARU: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is stepping in to address the absence of mobile network coverage in Kampung Sungai Relai, Gua Musang. A recent inspection confirmed the area has no service despite the presence of a 76-metre tower, which is currently used only for microwave backhaul between two towers. This upgrade aims to provide a more stable and reliable network for the community. Fahmi offers condolences on passing of journalist Nurulanuar
KUALA LUMPUR: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has extended his condolences to the family and friends of former Utusan Malaysia journalist Nurulanuar Mansor, who passed away yesterday. Fahmi expressed sadness over the passing of Nurulanuar, a member of the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Journalists Club (KLS), whom he described as an immensely talented individual in the arts. 'He drew a caricature which he presented to me during the Malaysian Media Clubs Alliance dinner last month. 'My condolences to all of the late Nurulanuar's family members and friends. I pray they are granted patience, resilience, and strength in facing this loss,' he posted on Facebook. Fahmi also prayed for Allah SWT to forgive his sins, accept his good deeds, and place his soul among the righteous. Meanwhile, KLS president Wan Syamsul Amly Wan Seadey, when contacted by Bernama, confirmed that Nurulanuar passed away at Putrajaya Hospital due to a ruptured blood vessel. The funeral prayer will be held after the Zuhur prayers at Masjid Saidina Hamzah, and Nurulanuar's remains will be laid to rest at the Muslim cemetery along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Highway in Taman Selasih, Batu Caves. - Bernama

UMS Students Gain Experience As Volunteers At Borneo Flora Festival
LABUAN, July 27 (Bernama) -- About 100 Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students are gaining hands-on experience as volunteers at the five-day Borneo Flora Festival (BFF) 2025, which began yesterday. First-year student Muhd Alif Hazim, 21, from the university's main campus, said he travelled to Labuan specifically to volunteer at the inaugural festival. 'This is the biggest event I've joined this year. I wanted to improve my communication skills and meet new people,' said the Computer Science (Data Science) student. He said the Borneo Tropical Flora and the Borneo Rainforest Jewel exhibitions drew strong interest from visitors on the first day, particularly for showcasing various floral species, including tulips, sunflowers, pohon pontianak, and orchids. Siti Aisyah Masyop, 23, a student from the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, said this was her first volunteer experience and an opportunity to gain new knowledge and interact with the public. The Selangor-born student said their tasks included giving directions and assisting visitors with taking photographs. 'Visitors have been friendly and we always ask if they need any help. With the large crowd, some may be unsure of where to go,' she said. Third-year student Anne Roza Robin, 22, from the Faculty of International Finance, said she had been involved in the festival since its initial flower-planting phase. Hailing from Keningau, she described the experience as meaningful, especially in preparing herself for the working world.
