Forget about football? Nah – Eddie Howe never switched off during hospital stay
The 47-year-old was hospitalised on April 11 after becoming unwell and missed three Premier League games as he worked his way back to health.
Assistant Jason Tindall, who along with Graeme Jones took charge of the team in the head coach's absence, insisted throughout that his former Bournemouth team-mate needed to concentrate on his recovery and not even think about football.
Newcastle United are delighted to confirm that Eddie Howe has returned to his duties at the club's Training Centre.
Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery.

However, asked if he was able to do that, Howe said: 'It makes me laugh, that, 'forget about football'. It's impossible when you're in my job. I didn't forget about football for a second.
'Everyone was saying, 'You need to relax, take it easy', and I'm, 'Nah'. It doesn't happen because you know you're coming back to the job and you know if you're idle in the job for a few days, the job gets difficult.
'You can't rest. Even the summer, it's never a case of you turn the phone off and then you turn it on two weeks later. If you did that, there would be carnage.
'You're involved in the job every day and you're having to make decisions and communicate with people on a daily basis, and that's how the job has always been for me.'
That said, Howe's illness has left him with a fresh perspective on life and work even as he prepares for Sunday's crucial Premier League clash with Everton, in which victory would guarantee a return to Champions League football for the Magpies barring an extraordinary goal difference swing.
He said: 'That experience was bizarre. One minute you're managing the team and the next minute, you're in a hospital bed thinking that's some change from feeling okay to not.
'It goes the show the vulnerability that we potentially all face with our bodies and in our lives. You're so busy and sometimes you can neglect the most important things, so that was an important reminder for me that your health is such a fragile thing.'
Newcastle already have a place in the Conference League as a result of winning the Carabao Cup, and are all but assured of upgrading to Europa League football at worst via the league.
However, it is the Champions League Howe and his players want even if they might stand a better chance of winning one of the other trophies on offer.
He said: 'I don't want to come across as negative towards the Europa League because it's a great competition. You've seen in the last few days what impact it can have on respective clubs, and that is not to be devalued at all.
'But when you have a competition which we've been in not so long ago and you saw the emotion it brought and the quality of games we had, the experience was second to none. That is naturally where we want to be.'

A former Tottenham star has slammed the club's decision to sack Ange Postecoglou just weeks after their Europa League triumph. On Friday Tottenham released a statement to announce that Postecoglou had been relieved of his duties 16 days after he led the club to their first silverware since 2008. Victory in Bilbao served as a glorious conclusion to what had been an otherwise disastrous campaign for the north London club. In a season in which his squad was ravaged by slew of injuries, further compounded by a congested fixture list, Spurs suffered 22 league defeats, a club record in a 38-game season. However, Ramon Vega - who played 81 times for Tottenham between 1997 and 2000 - insisted the decision to part ways with Postecoglou was 'unbelievable'. 'We are now in a place where a trophy is not valid at all whatsoever,' Vega told Sky Sports News. 'The principles and the disciplines are not valued in the same way. 'What kind of inspiration or example can you bring to the future and the young talented players? Do you not want to win trophies anymore? 'In football, results count. And they won a trophy. It's unbelievable. 'The only excuse that they can come out with, is that the second season saw them have unbelievable injuries where inexperienced young talent - and Ange had to reinvent the squad because there was no backing there. '80 per cent of the men's squad was out - when you're top centre-halves are out for 25 per cent of the season, it's impossible to be successful, with all the competition flying into it. 'And they still won a trophy? The league situation, there's an excuse.' Vega added that the timing of Postecoglou's dismissal will do little to inspire confidence in the club's board from the Aussie's successor. The 53-year-old also added that he believes that the sacking came partly as a consequence of Postecoglou's strained relationship with club chiefs. He continued: 'The question is here: "where do Tottenham want to go with their manager? Why are they now sacking someone where they can bring stability into the whole club?' 'The fans - 250,000 people went to the parade, when is the next time they will do that? They aren't talking about 17th in the league, they won a trophy! 'We are degrading winning a trophy here. Ange had a big personality clash with the main guys in the board. Both parties were not getting on together.' Spurs now face a summer of uncertainty as they prepare for a return to Champions League football. Brentford boss Thomas Frank has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Postecoglou in the eyes of the bookmakers. The next head coach will be the 14th of the ENIC era led by Levy.
