Chelsea could be set for a significant windfall this summer if Ipswich Town winger Omari Hutchinson is sold, with the Blues having inserted a sell-on clause in the player's contract
Chelsea could be set for a significant cash boost this summer, thanks to a shrewd clause included in the contract that saw Omari Hutchinson move to Ipswich Town last year.
Hutchinson has caught the eye of several top-tier clubs following two impressive seasons with Ipswich, that has seen him become one of the most productive wingers in Europe. The 21-year-old initially joined the Tractor Boys on loan in the summer of 2023 and played a key role in their promotion-winning campaign, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna was keen to secure Hutchinson's services on a permanent basis, leading to a £22million transfer last summer. However, Chelsea ensured they included a sell-on clause in the deal, entitling them to 25% of any future transfer fee.

It's understood that Chelsea also have first refusal on Hutchinson if another club tries to sign him, with the player having the final say. This savvy move by the Blues could result in a substantial windfall as Hutchinson is now valued at just under £19m, according to Transfermarkt.
This clause mirrors a similar strategy employed by Arsenal when they sold Hutchinson back to Chelsea in 2022. Hutchinson began his career at Chelsea's Cobham training ground before moving to Charlton Athletic in 2012 and then to Arsenal in 2015, reports Football London.
After Chelsea opted to bring Hutchinson back to west London, Arsenal managed to secure a sell-on clause believed to be between 15 and 20%, which resulted in a tidy profit when Chelsea sold Hutchinson to Ipswich last year.
Now, it appears that Chelsea could soon see a return on their investment in Hutchinson. The skilful winger is reportedly being eyed by Everton, Brentford, West Ham and Fulham, with Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig also said to be interested.
The 21-year-old is understood to be keen on continuing to play at the top level, something that relegated Ipswich can't offer at present. His impressive stats certainly lend weight to his ambition.

Only Liverpool's new star Florian Wirtz and PSG's dynamic winger Doue completed more dribbles last season than Hutchinson, who clocked up 95.
Compared to the £100m, potentially rising to £116m, that Liverpool recently splashed out for Wirtz, Hutchinson's anticipated fee will be relatively modest in comparison. Doue has also joined the ranks of Europe's most sought-after stars following his standout performances in PSG's Champions League triumph in May.

While he may not be a prolific scorer, Hutchinson proved this season that he can hold his own against the best, netting goals against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.
After initially playing for Jamaica, Hutchinson earned his first cap for the England Under-21s in August 2024. In an interview with the East Anglian Daily Times this March, he shared his emotions about playing at the pinnacle of football.
"It's a dream come true for me to play in the Premier League, facing the biggest teams in the world," he said. "All I've tried to do is perform as best as I can. There's been a lot of ups and downs, but I think it builds character for me and the team as well."

Chelsea have ALREADY paid off Liam Delap transfer fee with Club World Cup earnings alone

LIAM DELAP is off the mark - after putting Chelsea in the black. Or at least in terms of the striker's £30million arrival from Ipswich just three weeks ago. 3 3 Delap angled his first goal for the Blues as a 3-0 win over ES Tunis booked a place in the Club World Cup knockout stages. And reaching the last 16 means Chelsea have already earned £33.8m from the controversial tournament. That more than covers the 22-year-old's transfer fee. Admittedly, the £3.8m extra that the Blues have so far picked up in the CWC won't stretch much beyond paying the first half a year of Delap's sizable salary. The former England Under-21 star signed on at Stamford Bridge until 2031 for around £100,000 a week - £5.2m every 12 months. Chelsea didn't even have to break sweat in the fierce heat of the USA to make the opening £25m from the CWC. WATCH EVERY MATCH OF THE CLUB WORLD CUP 2025 LIVE ON DAZN 3 Because that sum was just for participating in the 64-team tournament. The Blues then got nothing in more senses than one in their first Group D clash as Flamengo roared back to triumph 3-1. But victories over Los Angeles and Tunis scooped £1.5m each. That's £3m - with a further £5.8 m added on for making the KO phase. Fans convinced Chelsea have 'scammed their way to Club World Cup final' after Harry Kane's horror last second miss Cold hard cash - after bringing in a forward known for his bold, hard play, something akin to an old-fashioned targetman. Delap revealed he's relishes that bash-and-grab side of the gam e. He said: "Yeah, I love those battles. I always have since I was a kid. "I really love the aggressive side of it and the competitive nature of the squad. "It's got to be controlled at times but it's my game ultimately and I enjoy it." And he's also far from fazed at Chelsea handing him the No.9 shirt. Big-name stars Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao, Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain and Romelu Lukaku all struggled for the Blues in that TOP. But Delap told talkSPORT: 'I chose it. At the end of the day, it's just a number on the back of your shirt. "The number nine has always been related to strikers, so it's something I like, but there is no pressure. "It's too early of course to judge if Delap will be a hit with that top. But financially, his numbers are already more than adding up for Chelsea.

Taylor Hinds to leave Liverpool Women after five years and join Arsenal

Arsenal are to sign the Liverpool vice-captain Taylor Hinds on a free transfer when her contract expires at the end of June, with the 26-year-old having decided to join the European champions. The left-back played for Arsenal as a youngster before joining Everton in 2018 and then moving across Merseyside two years later. She has spent the past five years with Liverpool, helping them finish as high as fourth in the Women's Super League in 2024. Hinds was a key part of the Liverpool team that won promotion to the WSL with the second-tier title in 2022, and she played in every league game for that season and the following top-flight campaign. The addition of Hinds strengthens Arsenal's options at full-back, on both sides, because although she has predominantly played on the left, she is also capable of providing cover as a right-back or right wing-back. Meanwhile, the Arsenal full-back Laura Wienroither – who can also play on both sides – has been linked with a move away following her loan spell at Manchester City in the second half of last season. Hinds received widespread praise and support in March after she spoke up about being subjected to 'sexually inappropriate comments' from a spectator during Liverpool's Women's FA Cup win at Arsenal. The incident occurred while Hinds was receiving treatment on the pitch and a member of the crowd was removed from the stadium by stewards. Both clubs offered her their 'full support', while Hinds said at the time: 'Together we can continue to make our sport better both now and for the years to come.' Meanwhile, Liverpool are understood to be getting closer to appointing a new manager, having been without a long-term replacement for Matt Beard since his departure in February.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has high hopes for new recruit Liam Delap

Delap scored his first goal since his £30million move from Ipswich as Chelsea beat Esperance Tunis 3-0 in Philadelphia to reach the last 16 of the Club World Cup. It was the striker's second start in succession, having made his debut as a substitute in their opening Group D against Los Angeles FC. With fellow forward Nicolas Jackson still suspended for Saturday's clash with Benfica in the second round, the 22-year-old has a chance to cement his place in the side. Maresca told reporters: 'We know Liam is going to score goals for us, we don't have any doubts about that. 'Against Flamengo he had three clear chances to score goals, so that is a good feeling because it means he is there, he is in the right position and doing well. 'Unfortunately, he didn't score against Flamengo, but he scored here. 'We expect the process to be quite quick with Liam because we know him and he knows us in the way we want to play.' Chelsea took command against the Tunisians with a quickfire double in first-half stoppage time. Tosin Adarabioyo opened the scoring with a fine header and Delap followed up moments later by beating two challenges and rolling the ball past statuesque goalkeeper Bechir Ben Said. Both goals were created by the impressive Enzo Fernandez. Tyrique George scored a third in time added on at the end of the game with another shot Ben Said should have saved. The result meant the Blues finished second in Group D behind Flamengo. They will now head to Charlotte at the weekend to face Benfica, who beat one of the tournament favourites in Bayern Munich to top Group C. 'We know Benfica is a top club, with a top manager, and top players,' who made eight changes against Esperance largely due to the draining effects of playing and training in the heat. 'It's going to be tough but from 32 we are now into the round of 16 and our next target is go into the quarter-finals.' The temperature in Philadelphia was 33C despite the game kicking off at 9pm local time. Cole Palmer, Marc Cucurella, Pedro Neto, Moises Caicedo and Reece James were among the players benched. Maresca said: 'It's impossible not to rotate players because playing every three days in these conditions means it's not possible for them to play every game. 'The ones that played were good and we've given some rest to many players. It's important to recover the energy and try to win the next game.'
