Anwar refutes claims of failed multibillion-ringgit investments

The Sun5 days ago
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has firmly rejected allegations that multibillion-ringgit investments in Malaysia have failed to deliver results.
He stressed that these investments, particularly in the manufacturing sector, have significantly contributed to economic growth, job creation, and wage improvements.
Anwar revealed that 3,494 manufacturing projects approved by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) between 2021 and June 2025 have seen an 86.4% implementation rate, with 3,095 projects already operational.
The annual implementation rates were 90.6% in 2023 and 79.2% in 2024, while the first quarter of 2025 recorded 49.8%.
'Critics ask, 'Where are the results of these billions in investment?' The truth is, 86% of approved projects are up and running,' Anwar stated during the Prime Minister's Department monthly assembly.
He directed the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, to publicly share data on operational projects in key regions like Kulim, Johor, Sarawak, Sabah, and the Klang Valley.
The prime minister emphasised that these projects, particularly in digital and green industries, have generated 50,000 new jobs in the manufacturing sector in Q1 2025.
Additionally, the median wage in the sector rose by 5.4% to RM2,745, aligning with the new minimum wage of RM1,700.
Anwar also highlighted the efficiency of the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre (IMFC), established in December 2023, which has processed 28,166 investor applications with a 99.9% resolution rate.
These applications covered approvals, permits, foreign worker quotas, utilities, and taxation.
'The civil service's role in facilitating these investments must be acknowledged. Their efficiency ensures that announced policies translate into real outcomes,' he added. – Bernama

PM Anwar urges MPs to adopt civil debate, avoid insults in Parliament

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged Members of Parliament to maintain a culture of civil and respectful debate in the Dewan Rakyat, steering clear of insults and profanity. Speaking at the 2025 Prime Minister's Cup Debate Finals, he highlighted the need for constructive discourse in legislative discussions. Anwar expressed admiration for the young debaters, applauding their confidence, factual accuracy, and well-structured arguments. He suggested that MPs could learn from their disciplined approach to debate. 'I am very proud of the quality of the debate, and I couldn't help but wonder - why shouldn't Members of Parliament learn from this? If we wish to debate, we must first master knowledge, analyse it, process it, and present it effectively,' he said. The Prime Minister also commended the students for their proficiency in Malay and their ability to engage in insightful discussions. He emphasised that debate should focus on clarity and analysis rather than mere rhetoric. The Prime Minister said that values such as manners and ethics must be integral to the national education system, as the vision of building a MADANI Malaysia cannot rely solely on technological advancements like artificial intelligence (AI), digitalisation, and emerging technologies. 'When we talk about a MADANI nation, it must be founded on values and ethics, as articulated by Sheikh Taha Jabir Al-Alwani in his work Adab al-Ikhtilaf,' he said. Acknowledging the complexity of today's challenges and the need for future generations to master new knowledge, Anwar stressed that such advancement must be grounded in tradition, human values, and ethical principles. 'We train our children not only to master new knowledge but also to uphold the values of faith, ethics, and local culture. Without this balance, we risk merely replicating the model of Western countries,' he said. Meanwhile, the 50th edition of the debate saw Sekolah Menengah Agama Persekutuan Kajang crowned champion in the Malay language category, while Sekolah Sultan Alam Shah emerged victorious in the English category. - Bernama

Rafizi's damning warning, 'Datuk Seri' titleship invites Farhash's public scrutiny, may expedite MACC intervention

FIRST, it was former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli urging the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to open an investigation into Datuk Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak—the former political aide to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim—over allegations linked to a mineral exploration license in Sabah. Then later yesterday (July 25), news broke out that the high-flying corporate figure would be conferred a 'Datuk Seri' title today (July 26) in conjunction with the 84th birthday of Penang Governor Tun Ramli Ngah Talib. For the record, Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz heads the list of 1,530 recipients of state awards, honours, and medals, which also include Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Penang Malay Association president Tan Sri Dr Yussoff Latiff, and national badminton legend Datuk Lee Chong Wei. Instead of being a recognition, the award spotlight on Farhash, the ex-PKR Perak chief, will likely fuel more public scrutiny, not to mention distrust of Anwar's much-shouted anti-corruption drive. Such is the message conveyed by Rafizi in a media statement, which called on Anwar to swiftly address the growing controversy surrounding Farhash, for failure to do so could undermine public trust in the government's reform agenda. 'The information revealed so far is sufficient for the MACC to open an investigation paper on Farhash, just as it has done for other figures accused of sudden wealth accumulation,' revealed the Pandan MP. Evidence of his meteoric rise: Farhash currently holds directorships in four other public-listed companies, namely MMAG Holdings Bhd, Apex Equity Holdings Bhd, Excel Force MSC Bhd, and Key Alliance Group Bhd. In April, Farhash became a substantial shareholder in Key Alliance with his purchase of 6.8 million shares in the open market. He owns a 5.546% interest now. On May 30, convenience store chain operator 7-Eleven Malaysia Holdings Bhd announced that Farhash, who was appointed chairman on Jan 3, 2023, has resigned from his post to pursue other business interests. Farhash previously served as Anwar's political secretary and was also the Perak PKR chief. Local media recently reported that Sabah Mineral Management Sdn Bhd, the state's mineral licensing agency, had awarded Bumi Suria — a company linked to Farhash — an exploration license for coal mining. According to the report, the company was granted exclusive rights to explore and search for minerals across 70,000 hectares in the Kalabakan and Gunung Rara forest reserves near the Kalimantan border. Farhash has denied the report and is demanding a public apology. This is not the first time he has been linked to controversial business dealings. In March last year, he emerged as a substantial shareholder in HeiTech Padu Bhd shortly before the company secured a RM190 million contract from the Road Transport Department. — July 26, 2025

‘I was not invited': Anwar says he won't join KL protest urging him to quit

PUTRAJAYA, July 26 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reportedly said he will not be attending the 'Turun Anwar' protest in Kuala Lumpur today. According to The Star, Anwar made the remark after delivering his closing address at the 50th edition of the Prime Ministers' Cup Debate Competition in Putrajaya. 'Well, I was not invited,' he reportedly told reporters when asked about the rally. Thousands of demonstrators gathered near Sogo and Pertama Complex in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon for the 'Turun Anwar' protest. Authorities allowed the rally to proceed following a recent Federal Court ruling that struck down mandatory notification requirements under the Peaceful Assembly Act. Over 2,000 police officers have been deployed across the city, with acting KL police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad warning that any provocation or unlawful behaviour will be met with firm action. Anwar had earlier said the government welcomes criticism and peaceful assembly, but urged protesters to act responsibly. Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar has reminded civil servants that taking part in the rally could lead to disciplinary action.
