A Mom Says a Parent at Her Kid's School Keeps Offering to Help with Her Daughter, but She Worries She Has Ulterior Motives
A mom says that another mother at her daughter's school keeps offering to drive her daughter to dance class — but she suspects it's only because she wants a favor in return
The woman shared her experience on a parenting forum and asked her fellow community members if she's wrong to want to avoid a reciprocal relationship with the other mom
The woman's post has the community divided, with some people saying she's being unreasonable and others sympathizing with her predicamentA mom says that another mother at her child's school keeps offering to help her with daughter — but she suspects it's only because she wants a favor in return.
The woman detailed her experience in the 'Am I Being Unreasonable?' forum on the U.K.-based community site Mumsnet.com, a place where women can go to seek advice from other women. In her post, the woman shares that she is 'not the biggest social butterfly in the world,' but says she is 'polite and happy to have a friendly chat.'
However, she says there is one mother at her daughter's nursery school who she is 'struggling with,' explaining that she's 'the kind of person who asks very prying questions.' She also says that the woman's daughter can 'be a bit unkind' to her own child at times and often hurts her daughter's feelings.
The original poster (OP) says she generally has been attempting to keep her distance from the other family, but it's become more difficult ever since the other woman's daughter joined her own daughter's extracurricular dance class.

'It is the kind of class where you wait inside for the dancing to be over,' the OP explains, adding that the other mom now ends up spending the hour sitting next to her. Additionally, she says that the other woman has started offering to take her daughter to the class each week 'as a favor.'
However, the OP says she doesn't think the other mom is making the offer out of the kindness of her heart.
'I have a feeling this is because she will want a favor in return,' she explains. 'Dancing competitions will be on weekends, and she works weekends.'

'I honestly do not want to end up having to take her little one every weekend, especially when she isn't a very nice little girl,' the OP continues.
The OP then asks her fellow community members how she can 'politely' get the point across that she does not want to coordinate carpooling with the other mom, adding, 'Am I being unreasonable for not wanting to get involved in this kind of situation before it is suggested?'
The woman's post generated a number of differing perspectives from community members. One person noted that while the other woman 'sounds annoying,' the OP might not want to dismiss her quite so fast.
'I think that you are potentially shooting yourself in the foot by not setting up a friendly reciprocal arrangement in place for the longer term — having other families who you can swap favors and lifts with is helpful,' the person said.
Another person said that the OP seems slightly judgmental.
'You seem very down on this woman for simply being different [from] you,' they said. 'I agree she sounds mildly annoying, but I suspect you're more annoyed at yourself for being the way you are, instead of just accepting you're both different women. Anyway, to the point of your thread, just keep repeating that you enjoy the alone time with your daughter and stick to it.'
Another person said they think the OP is perfectly within her rights to maintain her boundaries — and went on to offer some tips for dealing with the situation based on their own experience.
'I have been direct with people before and said, 'I really value this time as my chance to zone out/ chill out/have a brain break.' I don't care if they think it's odd!' the person said, adding, 'I'd also say, 'I enjoy bringing my child to this hobby on our own. We like to chat on the way.' '

Shameless star and Everton manager to be honoured at Windsor Castle
Bafta-winning Shameless actor Anne-Marie Duff and Everton manager David Moyes will be honoured by the Prince of Wales at a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. The pair will both be formally made Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama and Association Football respectively. They were named in the New Year Honours list. In 2024, Ms Duff, 54, won a best supporting actress Bafta for her lead role as Grace Williams in Apple TV's comedy series Bad Sisters. She also secured awards for playing eldest daughter Fiona Gallagher in Channel 4's Bafta-winning show Shameless. The comedy drama followed a dysfunctional working-class family living on the fictional Chatsworth council estate in Manchester with an alcoholic father. Former Celtic and Preston centre-back player Mr Moyes, 62, went on to manage Manchester United and West Ham. The Glaswegian managed Everton from 2002 to 2013 and returned to the job this year. Chief executive of fashion giant Chanel, Leena Nair, 55, will also be made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE). Predicting Influencer Baby Names Is The TikTok Trend To Follow In 2025
Stick to the classics or carve out a new name entirely? That is the question for 2025 parents to be in the era of influencer baby names. Oh, baby! How do you spell that? We're babbling about baby names, coming off of the annual announcement from the Social Security Office in late May. The Popular Baby Names list, as reported on by Forbes, included pretty typical names like Liam, Olivia, Noah and Emma, plus two different spellings of Sophia/Sofia, gathered for the 2024 report. These lists can serve as inspiration for expecting 2025 parents, but some use this roundup as a guide for what not to name their future offspring, as to avoid having 10 different Isabella's in their kiddo's Kindergarten class. Many of these outliers can be found just by scrolling through your social media, as celebrities and influencers have become infamous for incredible new spellings of common names, as well as taking nouns and even verbs out of their typical usage and into the nursery. Emily Kim, 34, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, or Em Doodles to her followers, expertly taps into this trend, and has blown up on TikTok for her hilarious and sometimes suspiciously accurate influencer baby name predictions. 'I shared my first influencer baby name prediction on TikTok in August of 2021, after occasionally using the app to casually share art projects from time to time,' said Kim. 'Within a week of that first post, it had nearly one million views. As people kept sticking around, asking to see more predictions, I realized it was not a random one-time viral sensation. It really all began with the very, very first video and grew all from there!' Her predictions spare no celeb, as Kim has discussed everyone from headline-making celebrities like Kylie Kelce, Ashley Tisdale and Trisha Paytas to the currently incredibly viral cast of 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,' and even fictional pregnant stars like Peppa Pig's mom, aptly named Mummy Pig. The only criteria needed for a great prediction, according to the expert, is a social media presence. 'Social media presence is everything. When I see a person's lifestyle, or specific home style, or fashion sense, I can begin to make sense of who they are,' said Kim. 'A person with an elegant home style is likely to choose an elegant baby name. A person who loves to dress very boho is more likely to choose a boho baby name.' Even though some of the baby names of now may seem out there, that is exactly what Kim predicts will continue to happen. She is even more shocked when seeing names like Emily top the list, saying, 'Where are these babies named Emily?!' despite being a top 25 name on the official 2024 list. Another poignant point Kim made as to why influencers and celebrities may use out-of-the-toy-box names may be due to their reach and viewership by the masses, wanting to stand out from the rest of us and our children. 'If you used the same baby name as your old middle school friend who lives 2,000 miles away, very few people would know or care. Now we have a constant digital connection with those who we wouldn't otherwise be in touch with,' explained Kim. 'Influencers have a huge web of social connections; it's a tangled web of business and pleasure. They may feel that they already 'know' someone who has used a baby name, even if that person is someone they've never met. It can feel like every baby name has already been 'taken' and they've got to reach further and further outside the box to be original. To be accused of 'stealing' or 'copying' another influencer's baby name is a pain point for many.' This pain point was recently outlined in one of Kim's most recent 'MomTok' videos featuring the 'Secret Lives of Mormon Wives' star Mikayla, whom, according to Kim, bases her baby's names off of what is trendy in that given year. This year, the trend is her very own show on Hulu, which added some humorous ideas to Kim's list. The video above also explains just how interconnected the baby name world is when it comes to content creators, adding yet another layer to these predictions. For those that may not be influencers or celebrities, but still want their kid to stand out with a more unique moniker, there are still some tips to be taken from all this. Kim says that gender neutral names will trend upward, in addition to using last names as first names and names that reflect pop culture or society. Should you have a new bundle of joy coming soon, Kim has one final prediction to share for all expecting parents—her very own list of trending baby names, perfect for influencers and otherwise.

'Stupid people': Sam Newman lashes out as he and Wayne Carey cop footy club snub
Organisers of a footy fundraising event have been forced to dump Wayne Carey and Sam Newman after community backlash around the planned appearances of the controversial AFL figures. It's the latest blow for North Melbourne's dual premiership legend Carey, who was only last week filmed in a heated stoush with a patron outside a Melbourne pub. Carey was supposed to appear at the fundraising lunch at Victoria's Barwon Heads Football and Netball Club with his friend and fellow podcaster, Newman. But the club decided to alter its plans after 'there was considerable community backlash' around their appearance, according to . Both Carey and Newman are polarising figures and a spokesperson for the club confirmed to News Corp on Tuesday that they had 'decided to go in a different direction' after initially inviting the pair to attend the fundraiser as special guests. Newman insists he and Carey are not bothered by the snub, but hit out at the community uproar in a typically strong-worded statement. 'Some people thought it was not a good idea so they cancelled it, which makes no difference to Wayne and I,' he said. 'These people in good faith asked us to come and then some people get a little anxious about who is appearing and they have every right to withdraw the invitation. 'It is pretty weak of a committee to have the tail wag the dog when I can assure you that the response they got about Wayne coming down, and me, was overwhelming. But the tail wags the dog and in this world we live in intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people won't feel offended.' RELATED: Max Gawn accepts blame as new footage emerges of fiery clash AFL world responds amid awful news about Dermott Brereton Lachie Neale at centre of AFL controversy after ugly scenes The snub comes days after footage spread online showing Carey in a heated altercation with another patron outside a Melbourne pub, that ended up spilling out onto the street. It's understood the other man in the footage was known to Carey and began insulting the Kangaroos legend, who could be seen tugging at the man's shirt as an onlooker shouted out" 'Wayne, Wayne, relax'. #BREAKING: Wayne Carey has been filmed in a heated exchange with another man at a popular pub in Albert Park. #9News — 9News Melbourne (@9NewsMelb) June 6, 2025 The incident was the latest in a string of dramas for the AFL great and former media personality, whose incredible playing career was overshadowed by an affair with former teammate Anthony Stevens' wife Kelli in 2002. Carey left the Kangaroos in disgrace despite being the club captain and helping them win two premierships and he hasn't repaired the relationship with his former best mate in the 23 years that have followed. However, veteran AFL journalist Caroline Wilson revealed last month that Carey and Stevens will put their differences aside to attend North Melbourne's centenary celebrations later this year. The Kangaroos will celebrate their 100 years of existence for the Round 17 game against the Western Bulldogs. The Kangaroos released a video last year to celebrate 100 years in the VFL/AFL, and it controversially left Carey out. But Wilson says the club legend will be welcome in Round 17, where he, Stevens and fellow former teammate Glenn Archer will present a "united front". Wilson said: 'All three men are well aware that they will be there together and united for the first time. There was speculation last year when North unveiled their centenary jumper. And if you remember, there were North champions from through the eras and there was no Wayne Carey (in the video) and Corey McKernan was very upset about this. 'They had a 25-year premiership reunion for the '96 flag, and there was an altercation at a pub between Anthony Stevens and Wayne Carey. We know the history there. They had to be separated. I don't think it was physical, but it was not nice. 'And when there was a motorcade the next day at Marvel Stadium, Anthony Stevens wasn't there and Wayne Carey was. So the club has worked really hard to get all these guys within the fold. And clearly you can't celebrate your 100th anniversary without Wayne Carey being there.'
