Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has announced the release of a new memoir titled '107 Days', offering a candid and personal account of her brief yet historic bid for the presidency in 2024.
In a video shared on social media, Harris described the memoir as a deeply reflective and behind-the-scenes chronicle of her journey during what became the shortest presidential campaign in modern US history.
"Just over a year ago, I launched my campaign for president of the United States - 107 days travelling the country, fighting for our future," Harris said.
"Writing '107 Days' felt like living the campaign in reverse - rewinding each moment and experiencing it all over again. Behind every speech I gave, hand I shook, and story I told on the road, there were deeper layers, quiet reflections, and lessons learned."
Harris, who became the first woman and the first woman of colour to serve as Vice President, assumed the role of Democratic presidential nominee in July 2024 after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race amid growing concerns about his cognitive health.
Her nomination came at a time of extraordinary political turbulence, and while her candidacy made history, it ultimately ended in defeat to the Republican nominee Donald Trump in the November 2024 election.
In her announcement, Harris emphasised that '107 Days' is not merely a recap of her campaign's public moments, but a window into the emotional, political and personal complexities behind them.
'Since leaving office, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on those days,' she said. 'And with candour and reflection, I've written a behind-the-scenes account of that journey. I believe there's value in sharing what I saw, what I learned and what it will take to move forward.'
Harris noted that the book offers a unique perspective not only on her own experiences, but on the broader state of American democracy. 'This book is not a recap of our race. It is a candid and personal account of my journey.'

But today, the country is barely recognisable. With crises piling up on every front, the ANC-led government appears increasingly out of its depth, especially in foreign affairs. Recent claims have emerged implicating President Cyril Ramaphosa and senior government figures in potentially having had prior knowledge of the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack on Israeli and American citizens attending a music festival. In a recent podcast hosted by Byron Shepherd, lobbyist Justin Lewis alleged that a R400-million lawsuit may be looming against Ramaphosa for this alleged complicity. If these allegations prove true, the implications are enormous – not just for South Africa's credibility, but also legally, especially under executive order 14204 signed by US President Donald Trump. That order allows for serious consequences for foreign actors found to be aiding those targeting US citizens or leaders. While these are yet unproven claims, they are nonetheless deeply concerning. Hamas, often misleadingly labelled a 'resistance movement,' is not a state and is not party to the International Court of Justice. If the ANC – particularly through former foreign minister Naledi Pandor – had prior knowledge of the attack, as some are suggesting, and used it to build a legal case against Israel at the ICJ, then the legitimacy of that case must be questioned. This raises a disturbing possibility: that South Africa may have politically or financially gained from a tragedy of mass civilian international legal institutions for political ends erodes their credibility and damages South Africa's reputation. If these allegations are substantiated, they could trigger global backlash and diplomatic isolation – not to mention profound national shame. US justice department to open grand jury to investigate Obama officials, source says
US attorney general Pam Bondi has directed federal prosecutors to launch a grand jury investigation into allegations that members of Democratic former president Barack Obama's administration manufactured intelligence on Russia's interference in the 2016 elections, a source familiar with the matter said on Monday. The justice department said late last month it was forming a strike force to assess claims made by director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard about "alleged weaponisation of the US intelligence community". Republican US President Donald Trump has leaped on comments from Gabbard in which she threatened to refer Obama administration officials to the justice department for prosecution over an intelligence assessment of Russian interference. Fox News first reported that Bondi personally ordered an unnamed federal prosecutor to initiate legal proceedings, and the prosecutor is expected to present department evidence to a grand jury, which could consider an indictment if the justice department pursued a criminal case. The report cited a letter from Bondi and a source. A justice department spokesperson declined to comment.
