At London Fashion Week Fall '25, Footwear Gets Glam

A slimmed-down London Fashion Week schedule didn't stop designers from going all-out with footwear.
Simone Rocha and Dilara Fındıkoğlu went all out with embellishments.

At Rocha, the designer spun her crystal-embellished socks into footwear — a sock boot, faux fur ballet flats that double as floor sweepers. With the collection inspired by schoolyard stereotypes, from jocks and cheerleaders to 'emos' and nerds, there were a versatile pair of low-rise sneakers laced with lovely ribbons.
Fındıkoğlu went down a more punk route at her deliciously Dilara-ious show, where she told models to channel a 'medieval rock star,' 'moody but ethereal,' and 'don't give a f–k but hypnotic.' Dressed in ornate shell-encrusted bodices, hairy jackets, and pants pierced with safety pins, models rocked equally enviable shoes. Heels and sneakers were coated in silver pins, an edgy addition to practically couture-level looks.
At Malone Souliers, co-creative directors Coco Fong and Valerio Bavaj's high shine shoes, studded with crystals, sequins, and pearls, were inspired by textural Hitchcock films.
Footwear brands also offered support to emerging brands, like Conner Ives and Denzilpatrick.
With a show dedicated to the high-highs and low-lows of Americana, it only made sense that Conner Ives teamed up with Jimmy Choo, a favorite of the iconic 'Sex and the CIty' character Carrie Bradshaw, at his fall 2025 show. The shoes that clomped down the runway included gold strappy heels, animal print boots, and multicolored kitten heels.
This season, the design duo behind label Denzilpatrick, Daniel Gayle and James Bosley, reimagined knights in shining armor through motocross lens. Plush Hoka hiking shoes and tough leather combat boots from NPS Solovai, ready for all-terrain action, were highlights.
Off the runway, shoes were upcycled in an equally stylish fashion. Footwear retailer Schuh partnered with Are You Mad, a waste design studio, to deconstruct donated shoes. The materials were then handed over to British footwear designer Helen Kirkum to rework into panels. British furniture designer Charlie Boyden then used Kirkum's panels to craft donation bins.

Anish Kapoor and Climate Activists Take Over Gas Rig with 'BUTCHERED'

Summary Activists from the climate organizationGreenpeacehave unveiled a new artwork byAnish Kapooron a Shell gas platform in the North Sea. Titled 'BUTCHERED,' the artwork arrives as the UK records its fourth heatwave of the summer, and in thewords of Kapoor, is 'a reference to the destruction – the bleeding – of our globe of our state, of being.' On the morning of August 13, seven Greenpeace members scaled Shell's Skiff platform, located 45 nautical miles off the coast of Norfolk before mounting a 12-by-8 meter canvas to the side of the rig. The activists then used a high-pressure hose to pump 1,000 liters of 'blood' – a mixture made from seawater, beetroot powder and food-based dye – onto its surface. According toThe Guardian, 'BUTCHERED' is believed to be the first fine artwork displayed on an active gas extraction platform. In a recent statement, the group wrote that the piece brings light to the 'wound inflicted on both humanity and the Earth by the fossil fuel industry,' evoking the 'collective grief and pain at what has been lost, but also a cry for reparation.' 'I wanted to make something visual, physical, visceral to reflect the butchery they are inflicting on our planet,' Kapoor expressed, 'a visual scream that gives voice to the calamitous cost of the climate crisis, often on the most marginalized communities across the globe.' 'BUTCHERED is an action that happens at the place where this violation starts – a gas platform in the middle of the sea,' he continued. '[It] attempts to bring home the horror, giving voice to the moral and physical destruction caused by ruthless profiteers.' This isn't the first time the artist stepped up to face Big Gas. In 2019, Kapoor joined a league of 78 British artists – among them Sarah Lucas andAntony Gormley– in calling for London's National Portrait Gallery tosever ties with BPin lieu of their 30-year sponsorship.

Bob Harper accuses Jillian Michaels of not reaching out after his 2017 heart attack

On "The Biggest Loser," Bob Harper helped people transform their physical health. But the fitness trainer is nursing an emotional wound. Harper, who served as a trainer and later host on the hit NBC reality competition series, opened up about his 2017 heart attack, including the reaction of his costar Jillian Michaels, in an Aug. 14 interview with The Guardian. Michaels served as a fellow trainer alongside Harper for much of the Emmy-nominated series' 16-year run. In February 2017, Harper suffered a heart attack during a workout in New York City. He told TMZ at the time that after he collapsed at the gym, a doctor who was there performed CPR on him. In his interview with The Guardian, Harper said that while many of his "Biggest Loser" colleagues reached out after his medical ordeal, Michaels notably did not. "We weren't besties, but we were partners on a television show for a very long time," Harper told the British outlet, adding that the absence "spoke volumes to me." USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Michaels for comment. Despite the emotional fallout, Harper said he "would not expect Jillian Michaels to do anything other than what she wants to do." Jillian Michaels interview: Why the fitness trainer 'would love to leave weight loss drugs behind' How Bob Harper's heart attack changed his life In a December 2017 essay for Harper reflected that his heart attack on Feb. 12 of that year was "a day that changed my life forever." "I have always been what some would categorize as a Type A person. I have been driven, and I have been focused," Harper wrote. "I knew that I would be working out almost every single day. I knew that my diet would be on point. I knew that I would be burning the candle at both ends. I have always loved structure and discipline." 'It's madness': Jillian Michaels says she left California because of 'mind-boggling' laws However, Harper said the health crisis inspired a shift in his outlook toward "appreciation and gratitude," rather than constant productivity. "I know how short life can be. I know that it could all be taken away in the blink of an eye," Harper added. "Now when something triggers me, I try to say to myself, 'Who cares!!' It just doesn't matter. I know that I'm not perfect, and I know that life is a process. I just take it one day at a time. And that feels good to me." Contributing: Jayme Deerwester, USA TODAY

Here's How Taylor Swift Really Feels About Matty Healy's Mom Saying She's ‘Glad' to Not Be Her Mother-in-Law

Taylor Swift is always in the conversation. Lately, a lot of it has been because of her relationship with Travis Kelce, one that's going strong. In fact, that's going so well that there are rumors of an engagement almost every week. But her exes sometimes enter the conversation again, and this time Matty Healy did, thanks to comments his mom made about him dating Taylor Swift. Or him not dating Taylor Swift, that is. Denise Welch, Matty Healy's mom and a British actress, spoke about her son's relationship with the singer during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen. Cohen smartly asked about the album The Tortured Poets Department and Healy's involvement with Swift. More from StyleCaster Travis Kelce Might Have Dropped a Convincing Clue He's Engaged to Taylor Swift Matty Healy's Mom Revealed How She Really Felt About Taylor Swift's 'Tricky' Relationship With Her Son-'I'm Glad...' Related: Who has Taylor Swift dated? 'Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but not being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost,' she said as the audience reacted in surprise. 'Not that I have anything against her at all,' she added. 'It was just — it was tricky.' She went on to add, 'She — listen, you're not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it.' Ouch. Welch also added that her son, 'is very happy with his amazing fiancée Gabriella, who is gorgeous,' she said, in reference to model Gabbriette. 'So, we've moved on.' But how does Swift feel about it? According to the Daily Mail, 'It's a bit obnoxious in Taylor's eyes, but she has to take the high road. If there was anything that would be in a future song of Taylor's—if she were ever to respond—she would respond that way. But as of right now, she might just let it slide. She is not going to let Denise ruin her day.' The source also added that, 'Taylor respected Denise and will continue to do so, as this will go away very quickly. But if Denise continues to talk about it and bash Taylor, then Taylor would say something. The ball is still in Denise's court to see if she wants to continue the narrative she brought upon herself.' Denise's comments might be explained by a new report that says Swift broke Healy's heart, not the other way around. 'It's a horrible thing to have the most famous person in the world saying that your son broke her heart when it was the other way around, and then you can't even defend yourself,' a source told Us Weekly. The source added, 'She's saying the mother-in-law stuff because that's where Matty thought it was headed. She's entitled to her opinion.' 'Any mum can imagine what it would feel like — but then you have to multiply it by a million because of how famous [Taylor] is,' the source also said, explaining that Welch 'is still Matty's mum at the end of the day, and it was bloody hard for her to stay quiet during the whole ordeal.' She's not quiet now. Swift, however, still is. We shall see how long that remains the case, or if we'll hear about it in a new song. It's great catharsis, after all.
