Woman Held Over Alleged Assault On Daughter At Laundromat
CHUKAI, April 22 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested a woman suspected of scolding and assaulting her young daughter at a laundromat here last Wednesday.
Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the 45-year-old woman was arrested at her home at 7.27 pm yesterday.
He said the arrest was made after a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording went viral on social media showing a girl being scolded and assaulted by a woman believed to be her mother at a laundromat.
"The suspect was arrested and remanded until April 22 (today) under Section 323/18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994.
'Investigations revealed that the woman acted in such a manner - scolding and hitting the child - out of concern for her daughter's safety, as the child had been running in front of the shop and was at risk of being hit by a vehicle,' he said in a statement late last night.
Mohd Razi said an initial medical report found that the victim sustained minor injuries to the middle of her forehead, and she is currently under the care of her father.
'Police are urging any witnesses to the incident to come forward to provide statements or contact the Kemaman district police headquarters (IPD) operations room at 09-859 2222 to assist with the investigation,' he said.

Ex-international school employee claims trial to cheating, CBT involving over RM142,000
KUALA LUMPUR: A former employee of an international school has pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here to three charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving RM142,354.10. A. Komala, 33, who served as a parent liaison executive and personal assistant at the time, is accused of misappropriating the sum for personal use at the school located on Persiaran Stonor, Dang Wangi, from June 11 to 28, 2024. She was charged under Section 408 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of between one and 14 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction. Komala also faces two counts of cheating two Japanese men by deceiving them into believing that the school fee invoices she issued for their children were legitimate. The alleged deception prompted the victims to transfer RM94,509 and RM47,845.10 respectively into a bank account under a company owned by the accused's husband. The offences were allegedly committed at the same place and during the same period. The cheating charges were framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between one and 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction. Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Syafina Mohd Radzuan proposed bail at RM30,000 with one surety for all charges, while defence counsel Kelvinder Singh Sindhu appealed for a lower amount, citing that the accused is financially supporting her family. Judge Azrul Darus allowed bail at RM30,000 with one surety and set July 15 for mention. – Bernama

Drones deployed to nab bikers misusing Federal Highway
KUALA LUMPUR: Police today deployed drones to go after motorcyclists not using their designated lane,on the Federal Highway. Petaling Jaya Police Chief ACP Shahrulnizam Ja'afar said that the drone support for the operation, which began at 11am, was provided by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD) in cooperation with the Bukit Aman Air Operations Force (PGU). 'In just half an hour of this operation, we've issued 32 summonses, including those we stopped directly and those recorded via drone footage, which will be followed up with traffic reports to compile a complete report. 'Even though these offenders think they've escaped today, drones have actually captured their registration numbers and summonses will be sent to them under POL 170A for further action,' he said at a press conference on the operation. The operation was also joined by Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Edward Kondokor. Commenting on the behaviour of certain motorcyclists who act like 'road thugs', Shahrulnizam said riders must control their emotions and be aware of the offences they commit when travelling on the major Klang Valley artery as they are not using the designated motorcycle lane. 'If they use the highway, they also face a higher risk of injury due to accidents, so today's motorcycle operation aims to minimise accident cases. 'This targeted operation focuses on enforcement against motorcycle users, given that 70 percent of road fatalities involve motorcyclists,' he said. He added that the number of accidents involving motorcyclists on the Federal Highway under the jurisdiction of the Petaling Jaya police has increased, with 204 cases recorded this year – an increase of 35.1 percent or 53 cases compared to 151 cases last year. 'For this district, 52 deaths were recorded last year, while this year, 34 deaths have already been recorded as of May. 'So we've taken this initiative so that road users, especially motorcyclists, realise it is both an offence and a danger to use the highway when a dedicated motorcycle lane has already been provided,' he said. He also advised highway concession companies to ensure that motorcycle lanes are safe for riders in terms of lighting and road conditions to prevent any unwanted incidents.
