TV copper Pc Reg Hollis has helped real-life police officers arrest a shoplifter as he attempted to escape on a bicycle.
Actor Jeff Stewart, who played Pc Hollis for 24 years in ITV series The Bill, jumped into action by sitting on the suspect's legs, after he fell from the bike, while officers handcuffed him, in the incident in Southampton Hampshire, on Wednesday.
Mohamed Diallo, 29, of Anglesea Road, Southampton, was charged with five offences of theft, to which he pleaded guilty, at Southampton Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
He was bailed to be sentenced on August 29.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman said: 'In policing you should always expect the unexpected, but this really wasn't on The Bill for this week.
'Officers making an arrest in Southampton were aided by none other than TV's Pc Reg Hollis during an incident on Wednesday 23 July.
'The officers, from Bargate Neighbourhoods Policing Team, were in the city in the afternoon when they were alerted by staff at Co-op in Ocean Way to a suspected shoplifter, who attempted to make good his escape on a bicycle.
'The thief, 29-year-old Mohamed Diallo, fell off the bike during his attempts to flee, before officers pounced to make their arrest.
'To their surprise, local TV legend Jeff Stewart, who played Pc Hollis for 24 years in The Bill, came to their aid by sitting on the suspect's legs while officers put him in cuffs.
'Long since retired from Sun Hill station – but he's still got it.'
Diallo was convicted of the theft of £17.25 worth of coffee from Co-op in Ocean Way on July 23, theft of £69.90 worth of coffee and food items on July 17, and £54.50 of alcohol and coffee from the same shop on July 14.
He also admitted stealing £80 of wine from Sainsbury's in Bedford Place on July 14 and £63 worth of alcohol from Sainsbury's in Redcar Street on April 22.

Hollyoaks tour cancelled ahead of huge anniversary over 'low ticket sales'

The upcoming Hollyoaks Live tour has been dropped by its promoters, who are said to have 'over-estimated' the appeal for the production, which is external to the TV show A huge tour for a major TV show has been dramatically axed due to low ticket sales. Hollyoaks Live, which is an external production from the Channel 4 soap opera, was expected to hit the road, giving fans an insight into the popular programme but bosses have been forced to pull the plug. ‌ But while a string of famous faces from the show had signed on the dotted line to meet with fans, the production, which was due to take place in October, will no longer be going ahead. ‌ Soap stars including Nick Pickard, Kieron Richardson, Jorgie Porter, Gary Lucy, and Ashley Taylor Dawson were set to meet fans who had splashed out a whopping £161 for meet and greet tickets, allowing them to ask burning questions about their favourite TV show. It comes after reports Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are set for new 'goldmine' offer - but could face issue. ‌ However, sources have claimed that bosses behind the production had "overestimated" the appeal for the show, which was due to take place in Manchester, Glasgow and London, had been left with no option but to cancel the entire tour. "The promoter massively over-estimated the appeal a live stage show would have to Hollyoaks' core audience," a source said. They went on to tell The Sun: "The ticket prices were incredibly high for a show that's popular with teenagers. ‌ "The decision was made to pull the tour rather than have a loss-making venture with empty theatres." But those who purchased tickets for the events will be offered refunds at their points of purchase. It's understood that the tour was organised by an external production team, with Hollyoaks and Channel 4 having very limited involvement in the planning. A spokesperson for the tour said in a statement: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the planned theatre events with Maple Tree Entertainment featuring Hollyoaks cast are not going to take place as planned. "We are sad to disappoint those who had purchased tickets but they will be refunded via the venues." However, it's a stark contrast for ITV soap, Coronation Street, which is going ahead with a live theatre tour. ‌ Long standing cast members from the Manhcester based soap opera will appear at theatres across the nation to discuss their time on the show, in a production which has been billed An Audience with Coronation Street. Fans will pay more than £30 with the promoters promising "behind-the-scenes secrets, share hilarious stories, and relive heart-warming moments from the iconic ITV show". Hosted by This Morning's resident soap expert, Sharon Marshall, the show promises to be filled with laughter, nostalgia, and "more than a few jaw-dropping surprises!" ‌ Each event will feature five Coronation Street stars live on stage, including a surprise Corrie legend. The line-up will vary at each venue, with fan-favourite cast members including Andrew Whyment (Kirk Sutherland), Jack P Shepherd (David Platt), Samia Longchambon (Maria Connor), and Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald), with more names to be announced soon. Additionally, former show legends will also appear on stage. The tour will start in September and includes dates in London, Sheffield, Manchester and Glasgow. Promoters say in the first half, the audience will be treated to an intimate and lively interview session with some of Corrie's most beloved cast members. Ever wondered what goes on between takes? Curious about those off-screen friendships and real-life dramas? This is your chance to hear all the gossip straight from the source. The second act will feature a Corrie legend who will appear on stage and talk about their time on the ITV show.

Danny Dyer's earnings 'unveiled' after being 'skint' before landing EastEnders role

Danny Dyer has earned a huge fortune thanks to his work in TV and film, but the actor has been honest about his financial woes in the past Danny Dyer 's impressive earnings have reportedly been disclosed, following a series of successful roles in popular shows over the past year. ‌ The 48 year old star, known for his performances in Mean Machine and Football Factory, has been candid about his financial struggles in the past, confessing he hit a rough patch before securing his role on EastEnders. ‌ Danny was cast as Mick Carter in the BBC One soap in 2013 and remained a regular in Walford until 2022, when his character mysteriously disappeared at sea. ‌ Since leaving EastEnders, Danny has secured a number of acting roles. He's starred in ITV 's Rivals and Sky's Mr. Bigstuff, which earned him a BAFTA for his performance. Thanks to this success, Danny's amassed a substantial fortune, with accounts filed at Companies House revealing that his company, Arty Bucco, made £1.4 million in the last financial year, reports OK!. ‌ These figures show Danny has made an impressive £712,221 more than the previous year, according to MailOnline. In addition to his acting income, Danny's also earned money from hosting shows such as The Wall and Scared of the Dark. He's also appeared in documentaries like Danny Dyer's Right Royal Family and participated in shows such as Celebrity Gogglebox and The Assembly. ‌ However, Danny's wealth hasn't always been so vast, with the actor admitting he was struggling financially before landing his role in EastEnders in 2013. Previously speaking on the Jonathan Ross Show, Danny admitted: "I didn't have an audition, they rung me up, I had a touch. They said, 'Listen we want you to come in the show, take over the Queen Vic' and at the time I was skint and I just had about enough petrol money to get there, that's the truth. "They thought I was a multimillionaire and I met them in the hotel and I walked in absolutely skint, not a bean about me. I thought, I hope they don't ask me to get them a lager because I've got no dough." He confessed that he attempted to "play down" his enthusiasm at being offered the part, as he didn't want to "look desperate" in front of BBC executives. He added: "I went, 'I'll think about it' and then I walked out and I did a couple of backflips on the way out! I played it right down, I didn't want to look desperate and I was desperate."

Chelcee Grimes' new girlfriend looks just like Christine McGuinness as they go official

Singer-songwriter Chelcee Grimes has gone public with her new girlfriend, who looks very similar to her famous ex-partner, Christine McGuinness Chelcee Grimes has revealed who her new girlfriend is, and she looks very similar to her famous ex-partner. The singer-songwriter who has written for the likes of Kylie Minogue and Dua Lipa tends to keep her personal life rather private, but has gushed about her partner on social media. ‌ However, the 33-year-old footballer has now confirmed that she's in a new relationship following her split from executive producer Amelia Farhang, whom she stated dating last year. But now, the Liverpudlian has confirmed her romance with Rachel Slade, taking to Instagram to document parts of their romance. ‌ Chelcee, shared clips of Rachel taken on a lavish holiday as she posed alongside the swimming pool in a bikini, before another clip of Rachel running along the golden sands of the beach. Elsewhere, she posted another clip of Rachel dancing while the pair enjoyed a night out together. It comes after Cruz Beckham 'steals' his dad's tiny white trunks and family have epic response. ‌ The post was met with the caption: "I have 2 girlfriends," documenting Rachel in various ways, including different fashion senses. Captioning her post, Chelcee penned: "Not sure which one I prefer... What do you think?" Her upload, which has been liked over 500 times, was soon flooded with comments. Patrice Evra joked: "We all got many personalities." While Rachel replied: "I don't understand the question." Another person laughed: "They work well together please don't split the pair." "They're both my fave," said another. Meanwhile, Rachel bears a very striking resemblance to Chelcee's ex, Christine McGuinness. But both Chelcee and Christine have remained very quiet about their past, with Chelcee briefly opening up about dating publicly. Speaking last year, she said on the Taboo Talk podcast: "Yeah, I think... y'know they're the only ones you know about to be honest," about her high-profile romances. She went on to add: "There's been a couple. "It's the job I'm in. It's the industry I'm in. It's where I'm gonna meet people. Yeah it is weird." Both Chelcee and Christine met while competing on ITV's The Games in 2022 and instantly struck up a close bond, and were seen kissing one another in December of that year. ‌ The pair were also seen kissing at Winter Wonderland in London's Hyde Park in the same year, before locking lips again during a holiday in Ibiza just several months later. Meanwhile, earlier this year, Chelcee's romance with her ex Amelia seemed to "fizzle out". Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source said: "Chelcee's romance with Amelia fizzled out and they decided to go their separate ways. To friends, it would seem as though they haven't ended on the best terms because they're no longer in contact and have unfollowed each other on Instagram. ‌ "Amelia has been sharing cryptic Instagram posts on her latest holiday, which would suggest their relationship didn't end well." Meanwhile, Christine has previously hinted at her romance with Chelcee. The Blackpool-born star admitted that her now ex-husband, Top Gear star Paddy, and her family had all known about her sexuality throughout her marriage. Christine and Paddy, 51, announced in 2022 that they had decided to separate after 11 years of marriage. ‌ Speaking on the How To Fail podcast, Christine, who also appeared as a guest on The Real Housewives of Cheshire, was asked if she would label her sexuality. Despite hesitating, she insisted that she is a "free spirit." "No, and again, I've thought about it," she commented. Christine added: "A lot of people always ask me, are you a lesbian? Are you bisexual? Are you what? Is this a phase? "I've always been quite a free spirit. I think that's the only word I would put on it. When I was a teenager, I'd dated boys and girls. 14/15 was probably when I had my first kisses with, with both, and I never felt it was anything different or a big deal." But while she's had "situationships," she and her partners have never put labels on their relationship status. "My experiences with women have been lovely, and it's not like women are better or worse," she told broadcaster Elizabeth Day.
