Australia Cricketer Recalls 'Terrifying' Experience During IND-PAK Conflict

An IPL league match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was stopped midway as precautionary measure during the India-Pakistan conflict.
Australia women cricket team captain Alyssa Healy has recalled how players, their families, member of support staff and others endured a 'terrifying' experience while being evacuated to a safe location from Dharamsala where an IPL 2025 match was abandoned due to the escalating tensions at the India-Pakistan border last week.
A league match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was held at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala last Thursday and 10.1 overs into the fixture, the floodlights at the venue were switched off with the officials requesting the crowd to start leaving the venue as precautionary measure. The contest was abandoned.
With the nearest airport in Dharamsala shut, the players and their families were taken via bus and then train to New Delhi from where Healy, wife of Delhi Capitals fast bowler Mitchell Starc, took a flight home.
'It was a surreal experience," Healy told Willow Talk Cricket Podcast. 'All of a sudden a couple of the light towers went out and we were just sitting there up the top (of the stadium) waiting."
'We're a large group of family and extra support staff and the next minute the guy who wrangles the group of us and gets us on the bus came up and his face was white. He was like, 'We need to go right now,'" she added.
Healy said she they were kept inside a room for a while before leaving the venue.
'Then (another) guy came out and his face was white and he grabbed one of the children and said, 'We need to leave right now.' We were like, 'What's going on?' We weren't told anything. We had no idea. Next minute we are down being shuffled into this room which was like a holding pen. All the boys were in there. Faf didn't even have shoes on. We were all just waiting there looking stressed," Healy said.
'We ended up going south-west towards the border which was a little bit terrifying," Healy told Willow Talk. 'Mitch and I have played too much Call of Duty and we're noticing all the SAM (surface to air missile) sites that were just sitting there ready to go. They're radar-operated systems that shoot missiles at aircraft. (We saw) a few of them on the way through in some small towns," she added.
With the two countries announcing ceasefire, the IPL will now resume later this week.

Sanju Samson to Jitesh Sharma: Top 10 wicketkeeper-batters dominating T20 Cricket

England veteran Jos Buttler continues to shine in the T20 format across the globe. The 34-year-old is the third-highest run-scorer among wicketkeepers in overall T20s, amassing 1,131 runs in 29 matches at an average of 49.17 and a strike rate of 153.04. He scored 538 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 163.03 and an average of nearly 60 in IPL 2025. Australia's Josh Inglis is currently one of the most explosive T20 wicketkeeper-batters in world cricket. The 30-year-old is one of only two wicketkeepers to have scored over 400 T20I runs, averaging 37.09 with a strike rate of 181.33 in 15 matches. Across all T20s, he has accumulated 739 runs in 28 games at an average of 33.59 and a strike rate of 169.10. Sanju Samson has been in an outstanding form in the past few years in T20I. With 417 runs at an average of 37.90 and a strike rate of 183.70 in 12 games—including an incredible three hundreds—the stylish batter has amassed the highest run total among wicketkeepers. He has also had outstanding results in T20 cricket overall over the past 12 months, scoring 739 runs at an average of 35.19 and strike rate of 161.70 in 23 games. West Indies captain Shai Hope has transformed into a reliable T20 wicketkeeper-batter. With 1,258 runs at an average of nearly 42 and a strike rate of 129.02 in 35 games, the 31-year-old has amassed the highest total number of runs among wicketkeepers in T20 cricket since August 2024. With 358 runs at an average of nearly 36 and a strike rate of 140.94 in 11 games, Hope has also scored the third-highest total in T20Is during the same time frame as a wicketkeeper. Image credit: X (Formerly Twitter) Nicholas Pooran's name is almost unavoidable in any T20 rankings. The West Indian left-hander stands as the fifth-highest run-scorer among wicketkeeper-batters in the format over the past 12 months, scoring 1,011 runs in 32 matches at an average of 40.44 and a strike rate of 162.54. Pooran scored 524 runs at an average of 43.66 and a strike rate of more than 196 in 14 IPL matches. New Zealand's Tim Seifert remains one of the world's most underarated T20 wicketkeepers. The right-hander has been outstanding in T20I over the past 12 months and can bat at several positions in the order. Over the past year, Seifert has averaged 49 at a strike rate of more than 138 in five T20I. With 1,058 runs in 49 games, he is also one of just five wicketkeepers to have amassed more than 1,000 runs in T20 cricket overall. Ryan Rickelton, who has been hailed as South Africa's Quinton de Kock's successor, has performed admirably in T20 cricket over the past 12 months. With 987 runs at an average of 34.03 and a strike rate of 154.94 in 31 games, the 29-year-old is now the sixth-leading run scorer in the format among keepers since the same period last year Rickelton scored 388 runs at an average of almost 30 and a strike rate of over 150 in 14 games in his debut IPL season. Quinton de Kock scored 109 off 106 deliveries in the first innings. Jitesh Sharma was instrumental in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) maiden IPL title triumph earlier this year. Even while batting mostly in the lower order, the 31-year-old has scored nearly 400 runs in the past year, averaging 36 with a strike rate of 190.38. Jitesh had a fantastic IPL 2025 season, scoring 261 runs in 15 appearances at an average of 37.28 and a strike rate of 176.35. Former South Africa player Heinrich Klaasen , produced a number of memorable knocks, even during what was reportedly a down period over the past 12 months. In 20 games as a wicketkeeper, the 34-year-old amassed nearly 500 runs at an average of 28.41 and a strike rate of 154.31 in all T20s. Against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2025 Indian Premier League, he hit 105* off 39 deliveries, which was his best performance during this time.

Gill back in T20 fold, named vice-captain

Mumbai: Shubman Gill returns to India's T20 fold as opener and vice-captain, making him a certain starter in the Suryakumar Yadav-led side for the Asia Cup campaign starting September 10. India play Pakistan as well as UAE and Oman in the league phase. BCCI selection committee Chairman Ajit Agarkar with Indian men's T20 cricket captain Suryakumar Yadav. (PTI) Gill's selection from among India's burgeoning T20 talent pool didn't seem locked in with Abhishek Sharma-Sanju Samson's opening combination having made a strong case with their power-packed starts in the previous three bilateral series. However, before Tuesday's selection meeting, in a final round of informal deliberations between captain, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir, they are known to have decided to back high-flying Test skipper Gill's T20 credentials. 'The last time he played T20I, post the World Cup when we went to Sri Lanka, he was the vice-captain,' Surya said about Gill. 'That's where we started a new cycle for the (2026) T20 World Cup. After that we got busy with Test cricket and he didn't get opportunities. We're happy to have him.' Like Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal too was a playing eleven regular in that Sri Lanka series, played in July last year. He was picked ahead of Gill for the 2024 World Cup. Gill, having grown in stature in the other formats, has earned himself an opportunity to find his T20 peak. With Jaiswal 'it's unfortunate,' Agarkar told the media conference. In all likelihood, Gill will open with Abhishek Sharma, his fellow Punjab opener. That will force another change in the playing combination – Samson is likely to make way for Jitesh, who makes a comeback and will slot in as a finisher in India's preferred eleven. Gill's ascent to becoming a key member in India's all-format leadership group is evident. 'I can discuss T20 right now. In Test cricket, he is already leading. He was the vice-captain in the last T20, so we obviously see some leadership qualities in him,' Agarkar said. 'And his form in England, he obviously exceeded all our expectations, which is a great sign, (to perform) when there's so much pressure on you as a captain.' Shreyas misses out Shreyas Iyer's 604 runs while leading Punjab Kings to the IPL final went unrewarded. With India's Asia Cup matches to be played in Dubai where the wickets may assist spin, the proficiency of Shreyas against spin may have come into consideration. However, the selectors chose to stick with Tilak Varma, who scored heavily in the bilateral series before IPL. 'Again, no fault of his. Got to tell me who he can replace? At the moment, he'll have to wait for his chance,' Agarkar said on Shreyas. While Shreyas does not find a place even among the five reserves, allrounder Washington Sundar does. Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel are the others who narrowly missed the cut. With Gambhir's preference to have multi-skilled options in the squad, Washington stood a chance. Instead, the selectors went with Rinku Singh, giving the UP left-hander another chance to excel in the difficult finishing role. Among spinners, Kuldeep Yadav's return pushes leggie Ravi Bishnoi out, opening a window for the wrist spinner to combine with Varun Chakravarthy. The spin twins were very successful in bamboozling batters in the ODI Champions Trophy played earlier in the year in Dubai. Bumrah for big games Back to leading the pace pack will be Jasprit Bumrah. Giving him company will be Arshdeep Singh. The two were a force during India's winning campaign in 2024 USA-West Indies. Bumrah's limited availability for the England Test series to manage his workload has raised further questions on how the pace ace may be used across formats in the immediate future. 'I don't think there's any written plan,' said Agarkar. 'It's been a nice break after the England series. Physios, team management and people concerned have always been in touch, tried to look after him since we know how valuable he is. Clearly, we want him available for all the big games. There are World Cups, Champions Trophy, big series like England, Australia – you want him available. Because he's picked up injuries over the last 2-3 years, because of how special and unique it is, it won't change. Based on how he's feeling and how we require him, we hope he's available more often than not.' The third pacer's slot goes to Harshit Rana, who had made a bright debut in the last T20I series against England in January-February. Rana's ability to hit the deck and his power-hitting saw him chosen over Krishna, who was the highest wicket-taker in this year's IPL with 25 scalps. 'It's not like we don't look at IPL,' said Agarkar. 'When you pick a T20 squad, of course, you look at IPL performances. Because there have been overlapping series, there have been a lot more people who have ended up playing T20 cricket. We've got so many options as far as T20 is concerned that sometimes it's not the easiest squad to pick. It's a good headache to have.'

Prithvi Shaw begins a new innings of his career with a century for Maharashtra on debut; fans say..

Prithvi Shaw began his innings with Maharashtra in some style as he smashed a 122-ball century in his debut innings for the state team in the opening round of the Buchi Babu Trophy 2025 in Chennai. Playing against Chhattisgarh, Shaw brought his A-game, helping Maharashtra claw their way back after suffering an initial collapse. Maharashtra stumbled to 143/5 at one stage after the loss of Ruturaj Gaikwad's wicket. Prithvi Shaw smashed a ton on his Maharashtra debut in the Buchi Babu tournament(PTI) The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain lost his wicket for 1 as he came out to bat at No.4. However, Shaw continued with his counter-attack. His innings included 14 boundaries and one six. Earlier in the game, Chhattisgarh had piled on 252 runs in 89.3 overs on the opening day. Prithvi Shaw was outstanding in the field, and he took three catches in the outfield. This is Shaw's first competitive outing since December 2024. Shaw was eventually dismissed for 111 off 141 balls. He was dismissed by leg-spinner Shubham Agrawal. The 25-year-old made the switch from Mumbai to Maharashtra in July 2025. He had written a letter to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA)seeking a No-Objection Certificate to make the move. Mumbai granted him permission, and hence, he made the switch to Maharashtra. Shaw was embroiled in several controversies last year after he was dropped from the Mumbai team due to issues with his fitness and discipline. 'At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer. I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support I have received over the years," Shaw had said after making the move to Maharashtra. Shaw's international career Shaw has played five Tests, six ODIs, and a T20I for India so far. His last international appearance came in July 2021. The right-hander was viewed as the next big thing in Indian cricket once he made his debut in 2018; however, he quickly fizzled out. The youngster also went unsold in the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction before the 2025 season. Despite several injuries across the ten teams in the IPL, no team even picked Shaw as a replacement player.
