Pakistan envoy to China visits Khorgos Free Trade Zone, Cooperation Centre
He also met with the local leadership and discussed how this dry port had developed into sixth generation crossing point for people and goods. Both sides also discussed ways to carry out exchanges and collaboration to draw upon the good practices of Khorgos dry port for its potential application in the Khunjerab dry port between Pakistan and China. The Ambassador is currently in Xinjiang, China for an official visit.
During his visit to the dry port, Ambassador Hashmi was briefed on how technology-driven operations of the customs and immigration authorities at Khorgos had led to efficient, uninterrupted movement of people and goods.
Among other things, it was informed that cargo trucks could be customs cleared in 25-30 minutes due to integration of technology and the two way volume of trade had increased 46 % in 2025 year-on-year basis.
The Ambassador was also briefed on the successful operation of the duty free border market spread over an area of 5.8 square kilometres where citizens of China and Kazakhstan as well as third countries could enter and shop duty free.
The Ambassador and local authorities decided to maintain contact to promote exchanges and study visits to explore the possibility of replicating this successful model for Pakistan's border markets with its friendly neighbors.
Ambassador's visit comes in the wake of several measures taken in recent years by both Pakistan and China to upgrade the land border infrastructure between the two countries. In December 2024, the two sides have launched the year round operation of Khunjerab pass.

Downward trend persists on cotton market
LAHORE: The Spot Rate Committee of the Karachi Cotton Association on Saturday decreased the spot rate by Rs 100 per maund and closed it at Rs 16,200 per maund. Cotton Analyst Naseem Usman told Business Recorder that the local cotton market witnessed a mixed trend and the trading volume remained limited. He also told that the rate of new cotton in Sindh is in between Rs 16,200 to Rs 16,300 per maund and the rate of cotton in Punjab is in between Rs 16,200 to Rs 16,300 per maund. The rate of Phutti in Punjab is in between Rs 6,300 to Rs 7,400 per 40 kg and the rate of Phutti in Sindh is in between Rs 6,400 to Rs 7,400 per 40 kg. The rate of cotton in Balochistan is in between Rs 16,000 to Rs 16,200 per maund. The rate of Phutti in Balochistan is in between Rs 6,700 to Rs 7,600 per maund. Approximately, 1000 bales of Tando Adam, 800 bales of Sanghar were sold in between Rs 16,200 to Rs 16,400 per maund, 200 bales of Layyah, 200 bales of Khanewal, 200 bales of Kassowal were sold at Rs 16,200 per maund, 200 bales of Vehari were sold at Rs 16,250 per maund and 200 bales of Winder were sold at Rs 16,250 per maund. The Spot Rate Committee of the Karachi Cotton Association decreased the spot rate by Rs 100 per maund and closed it at Rs 16,200 per maund. Polyester Fiber was available at Rs 330 per kg. Tourism expo in October: Tajik official extends invitation to PM's coordinator
ISLAMABAD: A high-level delegation from Tajikistan, led by Major General Nazirzoda Savzaali, Head of the Agency for the Provision of Special Property under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, arrived here to explore avenues of bilateral cooperation. In their honor, a dinner was hosted by Sardar Yasir Ilyas Khan, National Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Tourism. The event was attended by Saidjon Shafizoda, Charge d'Affaires of Tajikistan in Pakistan, the Defence Attaché, and senior executives from Fauji Foods, where discussions were held on potential export products from Pakistan to Tajikistan.
