President Droupadi Murmu to visit Dehradun from June 19 to 21
Preparations are being made by the government and administration for this visit, and strong security arrangements are being made, a press release from the Uttarakhand Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said in an official statement.
The President will lay the foundation stone of a state-of-the-art public park being developed on 132 acres of land on Rajpur Road in Dehradun. This park will be completed in one year and dedicated to the public, the statement read.
On the other hand, Rashtrapati Niketan, spread over 24 acres, will be opened to the general public on June 24. Before Rashtrapati Niketan, it was known as Rashtrapati Aashiyana. In addition to the collection of artefacts in this heritage building, visitors will get to see Lily Talab, Rokari Talab, Rose Garden, etc.
In addition, Rashtrapati Tapovan, spread over 19 acres, will be dedicated to the general public. It has winding paths, wooden bridges, and quiet places for contemplation and meditation.
Earlier, President Murmu's visit to Madhya Pradesh from June 18 to 19 has been cancelled, as per information from the Collector of Indore.
President Murmu was supposed to visit Indore and Barwani on June 18 and 19, which has been cancelled. The Indore Collector shared a post on his official 'X' handle and informed about the development.

President Droupadi Murmu was scheduled to participate in a state-level programme on the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day to be held in Taloon Gram Panchayat in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district on June 19, as per a press release.
President Murmu was the chief guest at the program, and Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, and other ministers were scheduled to attend. (ANI)

A total of 1,090 personnel of police, fire services, Civil Defence & Home Guards and Correctional Services have also been awarded gallantry and service medals. Out of these, 233 personnel have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry while 99 have been awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service. In the honours lists are nine Air Force pilots from Operation Sindoor who have been given the Vir Chakra , India's third highest wartime gallantry award. Besides, 26 have been awarded the Vayu Sena Medal for gallantry while one has been given the Shaurya Chakra. These include a group captain and a squadron leader, who are sons of former Air Force chiefs. In all, seven senior commanders, including the Northern Army commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma have been conferred the Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medal - all for their contributions to Operation Sindoor. Others who have been given the honour are the director general military operations, the Central and Southern Air Force commanders, the director general air operations, the vice chief of air staff and the Western Navy commander. The Air Force has also accorded mention in despatches to 167 personnel, out of which 162 are for Operation Sindoor. These include at least five women officers who took part in the operation. For now, the air force has not shared citations that detail actions taken by personnel who have been accorded the gallantry medals. However, the Border Security Force shared citations of two personnel who have been given the Vir Chakra posthumously. These include sub inspector (late) Mohd Imteyaj, who was the post commander of border outpost Kharkola, on the international border in Jammu area. According to the citation, his post came under intense firing on May 9 and he directed a strong response. It added that Pakistani drones then targeted his post and he got grievously wounded but continued to direct troops under his command. Constable Deepak Chingakham, who was in the same post, refused to be evacuated and stayed with his post commander and continued to put up a fight. He, too, has been posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra.

Defence personnel awarded gallantry medals for success of Operation Sindoor
The Union government on Thursday (August 14, 2025) announced gallantry awards for armed forces personnel, including those who played a key role in the success of Operation Sindoor. President Droupadi Murmu approved 127 gallantry awards and 40 distinguished service awards for personnel of the armed forces and the Central Armed Police Forces on the eve of Independence Day, according to the Union Ministry of Defence. The President also approved Tatrakshak Medals to five Indian Coast Guard personnel. The awards include four Kirti Chakras; 15 Vir Chakras; 16 Shaurya Chakras; two Bar to Sena Medals (Gallantry); 58 Sena Medals (Gallantry); six Nao Sena Medals (Gallantry); 26 Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry); seven Sarvottam Yudh Seva Medals; nine Uttam Yudh Seva Medals; and 24 Yudh Seva Medals. Sub-Inspector Mohd Imteyaj and Constable Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force (BSF) were posthumously awarded the Vir Chakra in recognition of their exceptional courage and selfless leadership in the face of an adverse situation, the BSF said. The government has awarded 58 Sena Medals to the Indian Army, including to two Agniveers. Six Nao Sena medals have been awarded to Indian Navy personnel, and 26 Vayu Sena medals to Indian Air Force personnel. The medals have been awarded for brave contribution in the service of the nation during Operation Sindoor, and other operations conducted by the armed forces. The list of awardees includes pilots, officers, and jawans operating the S-400 air defence system. The operation targeted nine locations, including terror camps in Muridke, a Lashkar-e-Taiba stronghold, and Bahawalpur, the Jaish-e-Mohammed headquarters. Operation Sindoor will go down in history as an example of humanity's fight against terrorism and India responded to the cowardly and inhuman Pahalgam terror attack with a steely resolve, President Droupadi Murmu said in her address to the nation on the eve of the 79th Independence Day. President Murmu lauded the country's unity and said the military action on the terror hubs across the border was a test case for growing self-reliance in the defence sector. With strategic clarity and technical capability, they destroyed terrorist hubs across the border. 'In our response, what was most noticeable was our unity, which is also the most befitting response to those who wanted to divide us,' she added. Referring to the multi-party parliamentary delegations that reached out to various nations to explain India's position on cross-border terrorism, she said, 'The world has taken note of India's stance, that we will not be the aggressor, but we will not hesitate to retaliate in defence of our citizens.' The President also paid rich tributes to India's ancient democratic traditions, successful transition from colonialism to a modern democracy on the basis of universal adult suffrage and the Constitution for 'providing the edifice of democracy'. 'We built democratic institutions that strengthened the practice of democracy. We prize our Constitution and our democracy above everything else,' she said. Talking about the economy, she asserted that India is well on the way to becoming a developed economy by 2047, moving ahead with great confidence to be a self-reliant nation. She noted that even amid a global stress, India is considered as one of the fastest growing major economies, with growing domestic demand, inflation under control and GDP growth of 6.5% last fiscal. 'The all-round economic growth complemented by social sector initiatives has placed India well on the path of becoming a developed nation by 2047. With the nation marching ahead during the Amrit Kaal, I see all of us contributing to the best of our ability,' she said. Invoking Mahatma Gandhi's statement 'corruption and hypocrisy ought not to be inevitable products of democracy,' the President stressed on the importance of sustained good governance and a 'zero tolerance for corruption'. Highlighting the nation's focus on technological innovation, specifically artificial intelligence (AI) and the India-AI mission launched by the government, she said, 'As we aspire to become a global AI hub by 2047, our focus will remain on making the best use of the advances in technology for the common people, to improve their lives by improving governance'. The President also emphasised that development is truly meaningful only when it benefits marginalised communities and creates new opportunities for them. Ms. Murmu mentioned several flagship programmes of the government such as how Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) through digital payments and transfers, Ayushman Bharat scheme for healthcare, the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, Jal Jeevan Mission have brought about landmark changes in people's lives. She also noted that Shubhanshu Shukla's space journey to the International Space Station has fired a whole generation to dream bigger and mentioned India's strides in the world of sports.
