Maharashtra: Manickam Tagore slams

India Gazette24-06-2025
New Delhi [India], June 24 (ANI): Congress leader Manickam Tagore on Tuesday slammed the Mahayuti-led Maharashtra government for lack of infrastructural facilities in rural areas, questioning whether 'RSS product' Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will take responsibility for it after a woman had to be carried with a makeshift palanquin while giving birth.
The Congress leader had highlighted various instances where people had to carry pregnant women in makeshift palanquins due to proper roads not being available in the rural areas in Thane district.
'In Shahapur, Thane, a pregnant woman had to be carried in a doli -- a makeshift palanquin -- because there is no road to her village. In 2025, India talks about Chandrayaan, 5G and Viksit Bharat. But here, we fail to provide even a basic approach road for an ambulance,' Tagore wrote in a post on X.

'Will RSS product Devendra will take responsibility for this shameful state of infrastructure? Why are rural women still risking their lives for basic healthcare? India deserves better. Villages deserve dignity,' Tagore added.
Highlighting another incident of a woman who had to be carried and suffered a seizure, the Congress leader called it 'criminal state neglect' to let such things happen
'21-year-old Sangita Mukane was in labour. No road meant no ambulance. Villagers walked over 1 km carrying her in a bamboo palanquin. She suffered a seizure before reaching the hospital. This is not tragedy. This is criminal state neglect. Local activist Prakash Khodka says: 'We are in 2025, but this is the condition of areas close to urban centres.' Despite repeated pleas, the panchayat has not built the road. Governance doesn't mean slogans. It means action on the ground,' his post added.
According to the news report shared by Tagore, a video of a 21-year-old Ravindra Mukane being carried in a doli over a distance of more than one kilometre from Chanfewadi village to an ambulance parked at Gaidang Road went viral on social media.
According to the report, a local activist Prakash Khodka had said that there have been repeated appeals made to the authorities, but the Nadgaon gram panchayat has not done anything to construct roads. (ANI)

Allegations of 'vote theft' In India, the word 'election' is one that evokes immense civic pride in a citizen. Therefore, it is the duty of the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure that the entire election system ensures a fair poll as the running of a democracy rests on this. But why is the ECI not responding to the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations of 'vote theft' if it has nothing to hide? And why is Mr. Gandhi not submitting his claims in writing? The ECI seems more intent on condemning the messenger than confronting wrong-doing. Baani Bhabha, Ambala, Punjab Human-elephant conflict The report, 'World Elephant to be celebrated in Coimbatore today' (August 12), is perhaps the right moment to highlight how tourists harass elephants. Video footage of a tusker nearly trampling a tourist in Bandipur on August 10 is an example of unchecked tourism and tourists not following the rules. The 'selfie craze' is to blame. There are videos on YouTube of local people harassing elephants in the tea gardens of West Bengal and Assam. These clips show youngsters running behind herds and teasing the animals and the 'mass entertainment' it gives them when the angry animals react. What are the State Forest Departments doing? The fact is that there are a number of public health specialists in India with a Masters in Public Health (MPH). Such community physicians and public health specialists should actively seek out major roles so that national health programmes have meaningful community engagement. Modi should strongly oppose U.S. imposing 50% tariff, says Chief Minister Stalin

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin said in Chennai on Tuesday that the BJP-led Union government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should strongly oppose the U.S. imposing 50% tariff on Indian imports and both should be open about their position. He was speaking at an event organised jointly by the National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in India and the CPI(M). When five rounds of trade negotiations between India and the U.S. were completed and a date was being finalised for the sixth round, 'Why should U.S. President [Donald] Trump arbitrarily announce the imposing of additional tariff?', Mr. Stalin asked. Referring to the repeated claims of Mr. Trump that he was behind the ceasefire between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, Mr. Stalin said: 'When the Opposition parties raised queries over that in both Houses of Parliament, Prime Minister Modi did not answer at all. It symbolises his weakness.' Observing that there was a crisis across the world, where there is a need to crush imperialism, Mr. Stalin said imperialist conspiracies did not mean only wars. 'The U.S. imposing 50% tariff on imports from India is also one such conspiracy,' he asserted. 'The BJP-led Union government should strongly oppose this. The Centre and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should provide a transparent reply to this,' Mr. Stalin said. Takes a dig at EPS Talking about the politics in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Stalin said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami had developed a new found love for the Communists in recent days. Contending that people spoke about random topics, Mr. Stalin asked whether Mr. Palaniswami could speak about 'slavery'. 'I want to tell him that none is a slave to nobody. Everyone is wondering if Mr. Palaniswami reads newspapers. Even so, you would surely not read Theekkathir [considered a mouthpiece of the CPI(M)]. If you had read it, you would not be speaking like this. I read Theekkathir every day,' he said. Mr. Stalin said he listened to what Communist leaders spoke whenever he had time. 'They have not stopped flagging issues just because we are in an alliance, and I have not ignored the issues that they have highlighted. Because, half of us are communists. After all, my name is Stalin,' he asserted. Mr. Stalin added: 'We know how to distinguish pointing out with a friendly demeanour from deliberate defamation with ulterior motives. Even this stage symbolises our ideological clarity and friendship.' Minister P.K. Sekarbabu, Cuban Ambassador to India Juan Carlos Marsán Aguilera, CPI(M) leaders M.A. Baby, K. Balakrishnan, U. Vasuki, and P. Shanmugam, CPI State secretary R. Mutharasan, Director of The Hindu Publishing Group N. Ram, former MP T.K. Rangarajan, National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba's State secretary A. Arumuga Nainar were present.
