‘He didn't understand football': Wayne Rooney hits back after Tom Brady questions his work ethic
When Tom Brady bought into Birmingham City, no one expected the
NFL
legend to become the star of a football (yes,
soccer
) feud. But here we are. In Amazon Prime's new docuseries
Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues
, the seven-time Super Bowl champ doesn't just sip the tea, he pours the whole pot on
Wayne Rooney
's short-lived managerial stint.
His main gripe? Rooney's work ethic. And Rooney? Let's just say he fired back with a perfectly curved shot, claiming Brady 'didn't really understand football.
' Now, fans are throwing jerseys and tweets in the air, picking sides like it's a derby day.
Tom Brady's blunt critique of Wayne Rooney's time at Birmingham City
Tom Brady became a minority owner of Birmingham City in August 2023, right before the club brought in Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney as manager in October. Hopes were high, but the honeymoon barely lasted, Rooney's 83-day run saw just two wins in 15 games, and the club was eventually relegated.
In the docuseries, Brady didn't hold back:
'I'm a little worried about our head coach's work ethic. I mean, I don't know, I don't have great instincts on that.'
Tom Brady blasts Wayne Rooney 😳
He also called the squad from Rooney's tenure 'lazy and entitled,' and admitted that replacing the coach wasn't enough to stop the slide. For Brady, leadership energy and day-to-day drive are non-negotiables, and he clearly felt something was missing.
Wayne Rooney claps back with a football reality check
Wayne Rooney wasn't about to let that go unanswered. Speaking to BBC in an interview, Rooney said:
'Tom came in once, which was the day before a game, which is a little bit lighter anyway, and I don't think he really understood football that well at the time. Maybe he does now,
Rooney called Brady's comments 'very unfair,' pointing out that Brady reportedly visited the training ground only once and on a light day.

He also stressed the major difference between NFL's 17-game season and the year-round grind of football, hinting that Brady might not fully appreciate the demands of the sport on players and staff.
Fans are already picking their fighter
Social media is doing what social media does, turning this into a full-on sporting civil war. NFL fans are nodding along with Brady, praising his 'championship mindset.' UK football fans, on the other hand, are rallying behind Rooney, insisting the American legend doesn't get 'proper football.'
Memes, sarcastic tweets, and even mock match posters are making the rounds.
Whether you're wearing a Brady jersey or a Rooney scarf, one thing's clear, Birmingham City just landed in the global spotlight for all the wrong (or right, depending on how much you love drama) reasons. And with the docuseries still fresh, the debate isn't slowing down. Football, meet American football, now fight.

Patrick Mahmoes' Mother, Randi Mahmoes, Turns a Certified ‘Swifties' Following Her Latest Album Release
Taylor Swift has been all over the internet lately. She had a flood of responses upon her latest appearance on the New Heights podcast, hosted by her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and his brother, Jason. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Grammy-winning singer chose the right moment to unveil his 12th studio album drop, The Life of a Showgirl, and caught fans off guard immediately! And guess who joined the crowd? Typically, a lot of heavyweight names, including Patrick Mahmoes' mother, Randi Mahmoes. Patrick Mahomes' mother reacted to Taylor Swift's latest album The 35-year-old perfectly pulled the vinyl version of TS12 out of a silver briefcase in style and spilled the cover and all 12 songs of her 12th album. The project will set to be on air on October 3rd this year. The moment Taylor broke the news, Jason (Travis' brother) cheered the loudest, and so did the fans. The high-energy concept also blew away Travis' friend and teammate, Patrick Mahmoes' mom at the first go. The Kansas City Chiefs' QB's mother wrote in an Instagram update, ' So excited for this!' Oh, it's not just Patrick's mother who didn't mince her words appreciating the legendary pop singer cum the would-be daughter-in-law of the NFL community! Patrick's better half, Brittany Mahmoes, also seconded Randi with a compliment for Taylor's bombshell vintage showgirl costume. 'This is SO GOOOD': The all-caps annotation was enough to convey her admiration for the dress and the person carrying the same. However, it's not only the costumes or the songs; the real showstopper of the project is the idea and the extreme creative execution. Taylor Swift's 'The Life of a Showgirl's X factor: explained Taylor Swift is known for being a performer, a creative genius, and not just a singer, and in her latest release, her signature pop style, with some unique customization, was on full display. It's not just another album; it's a vibe, it's a loop that the fans don't want to get rid of. Before Swift finally let the cat out, she left crumbs now and then. Through the repeated number 12, the bright orange outfits, and many cryptic photos on social media, Swift played a mind game. Every aesthetic, every coded message, was meant to drive the Swifties crazy, and they successfully did that and even more. Swift has executed the whole album during her Eras tour. Max Martin, Shellback, and Swift herself were on the production duties. The performance, the storytelling, the glittery orange, and even the touch of Sweat and Vanilla Perfume Portofino made it beyond a regular work of the Queen of Pop. Even if you're not a part of the crazy fandom, brace yourself and let the magic unfold on October 3rd! Also read:

Lerone Murphy: From Manchester streets to UFC stardom – the making of 'The Miracle'
Image credit: Instragram Growing up in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, Lerone Murphy's childhood was a whirlwind of football, friends, and the occasional mischief. Living near Manchester United's iconic stadium meant the game was never far away. 'My childhood was crazy,' Murphy recalls. 'I used to love playing football, going out with friends. Sometimes we got into trouble, but it was fun. Football was a big part of my life.' But life in a deprived, rough area shaped him in ways beyond sport. 'It made me mentally resilient,' he says. 'I got into a lot of fights when I was younger, and that toughened me up.' For years, football seemed like his future—until a devastating knee injury at 16 changed everything. Playing in a cup final, Murphy suffered a serious blow. 'I blew my knee up, and that set me back,' he remembers. 'It took me away from sport altogether. Without that, I went down the wrong path.' Combat sports weren't initially on his radar, even though his uncle, Oliver Harrison, was a respected boxing trainer who worked with big names like Amir Khan. 'It was inspiring, seeing what he was doing,' Murphy says, 'but I never thought I'd be a fighter. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like All August Trades Earn Luxury Rewards Vantage Markets IN Register Undo I just wanted to be a footballer.' That changed when a gym opened in Manchester. Training with his cousin, Murphy discovered mixed martial arts—and instantly connected with it. 'It was love at first sight,' he admits. 'I'd always been into combat through things like anime and Street Fighter, but I'd never tried it. Once I did, I was hooked.' Murphy turned professional in 2016, and within three years, he was making his UFC debut—a rapid rise built on relentless dedication. 'I train every day. I don't do anything else but train or think about fighting,' he says. 'That's why I've grown so quickly.' But perhaps the most pivotal moment of his life came in 2013, when he was 21. Leaving a barbershop, Murphy was shot—a brush with death that would alter his path forever. 'It was a dark time,' he admits. 'But it was also the moment that changed me. If that didn't happen, who knows what I'd be doing now. As strange as it sounds, I'm happy it happened because it put me on the path to MMA.' That life-altering event earned him the nickname 'The Miracle,' a badge of resilience he carries into every fight. 'It reminds me I can get through anything,' he says. 'Even if things don't go your way, it doesn't mean it's the end. You can turn things around if you stay resilient.' Training at Manchester Top Team has been key to his continued growth. Surrounded by high-level fighters chasing the same dreams, Murphy has refined his skills while staying loyal to the team that shaped him. 'It's good to have that environment,' he says. 'It keeps you sharp.' For young people facing tough times, Murphy's message is simple but heartfelt: 'There's always light at the end of the tunnel. It's never over until it's over. If you're still here, you can change your situation. Keep good people around you, lean on them, and cut out the bad influences. That's the main thing.' Looking ahead, Murphy's ambitions are crystal clear. 'My goal is to be UFC champion—and defend it in Manchester. That's my dream.'
