Will Kylian Mbappé start for Real Madrid against Dortmund in FIFA Club World Cup?

Business Upturn4 hours ago
The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 has already delivered some electrifying moments, and now all eyes are on the blockbuster quarterfinal between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund on July 5 at the iconic MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. But there's one burning question on every fan's mind—will Kylian Mbappé finally start? Mbappé's Road to Recovery
The 26-year-old French superstar was ruled out of the group stage due to a nasty bout of gastroenteritis that even landed him in the hospital. He missed all three games against Al Hilal, Pachuca, and RB Salzburg, much to the disappointment of Madridistas eagerly waiting for his debut in the Club World Cup.
But there was a glimmer of hope in the round of 16.
Mbappé finally made his first appearance in the tournament during Madrid's narrow 1-0 win over Juventus on July 1 in Miami. Coming off the bench in the 68th minute, he looked sharp—completing 16 of his 17 passes and creating two solid chances. He didn't score, but it was enough to remind everyone what he's capable of. What Xabi Alonso Said
Since then, it's been a waiting game. Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has been careful not to rush his star man back into the starting XI. At a press conference on July 4, Alonso gave fans a sliver of hope:
'He's getting better. He's been improving over the last three days. Tomorrow morning we will be deciding if he will be part of the initial 11.'
In other words—Mbappé is close, but it's not a done deal just yet. Is Mbappé Starting or Not?
According to Spanish outlets like @elchiringuitotv and @MadridUniversal , Mbappé is likely to start. He's reportedly been going all-in during training sessions, even getting into a fiery exchange with Alonso during one of them—a sign of how badly he wants to be on that pitch from the first whistle.
Still, Alonso isn't one to bow to reputation. Nico García has been in excellent form in Mbappé's absence, and with the sweltering U.S. summer heat in play, the coaching staff might be cautious about starting Mbappé if he's not fully match-fit.

Thomas Müller bids farewell to Bayern Munich with loss in Club World Cup

ATLANTA (AP) — After the final whistle to his Club World Cup, Thomas Müller waved to the Bayern Munich fans one last time. His quarter-century with the German club is over. The 35-year-old Müller went out with a 2-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the quarterfinals on Saturday, a bittersweet ending to a tenure filled with so much glory. Müller came on as a substitute in the 80th minute and appeared to a draw a penalty in the waning seconds of stoppage time when PSG's Nuno Mendes delivered a high challenge in the area. But the video review showed that Mendes' foot struck the ball, just missing Müller's chin, and that finished off the PSG victory. 'I'm still fully in work mode now,' Müller said. 'It doesn't feel much different from before the game when we tried, and I also tried, to just get one round further.' He wasn't ready to reflect on his brilliant career at Bayern, which began when he joined the club as a 10-year-old in the summer of 2000. 'In the end, maybe we deserved more,' Müller said. 'But in football when you have these tight matches, it's sometimes a coin flip. And, yes, we lost it.' Müller made more appearances than any other player at Bayern, with more than 200 goals scored and more than 200 set up for others. He led the club to a record 13 Bundesliga titles, going out with one last championship this past season. But Bayern announced in April that it would not extend his hefty contract for another season. 'Of course, I am aware that this was my last game, and I will see what goes through my head in the coming days,' Müller said. He hasn't revealed his future plans, though there have been reports linking him to a possible move to U.S.-based Major League Soccer. 'At the moment, I'm not in the mood to share my deeper thoughts about my career,' Müller said. 'We lost a big fight, a very important game for us.' Birmingham sign ex-Celtic forward Furuhashi

Birmingham City have continued their busy summer recruitment by landing ex-Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi from French top-flight side Rennes for an undisclosed fee. The Japan international has agreed a three-year deal with Blues, who were promoted back to the Championship after a record-breaking season as League One champions. Advertisement He scored 85 goals in 165 appearances for the Bhoys and was the Scottish Premiership's leading scorer in the 2022-23 season with 27 goals. Furuhashi joined Rennes in January for £10m but is back in Britain just six months later with Chris Davies' newly-promoted side, despite being heavily linked with a return to Celtic. He won four Scottish Premiership titles during four years with the Glasgow club from 2021-25 and has also lifted two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups. Furuhashi joins compatriot Tomoki Iwota at Blues, who have signed Nigeria full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel and Jamaica winger Demarai Gray in the past week as well as Wolves midfielder Tommy Doyle and Euro Under-21 winning goalkeeper James Beadle on loan.
