EasyJet pilot who 'got drunk and stripped naked in bar' grounded ahead of Gatwick flight
The captain was expected to fly passengers from Cape Verde, West Africa, to the UK but has since been grounded by the airline.
The man arrived at the five-star Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa in Cape Verde on August 4th and began to binge drink until the early hours of the morning, the Sun reported.
According to the newspaper, at around 2.30am he removed his clothes and walked into the reception before heading to the gym and spa.
He was scheduled to fly a plane back to London Gatwick 36 hours later, on the afternoon of August 6, but a replacement pilot was found.
A spokesperson for easyJet said, "As soon as we were made aware, the pilot was immediately stood down from duty, in line with our procedures, pending an investigation.
The airline said, "The safety of our passengers and crew is easyJet's highest priority."
The flight from Gatwick to Cape Verde is easyJet's longest from England at 2,332 nautical miles and scheduled to take about six hours.

Council responds after ‘frustrating' rush hour traffic hits Plumstead and Woolwich
The council has responded after roadworks led to huge traffic queues for many in Plumstead and Woolwich. Lanes on Pettman Crescent, part of the crucial A206, are closed for bridge repairs with temporary traffic lights and diversions in place. But many road users complained of huge delays on the first day of work yesterday (August 11) and took to social media to vent their anger. Road users described 'absolute gridlock' with 'standstill' traffic and delays of up to 90 minutes. Greenwich council says 'we understand how frustrating the rush hour traffic issues were' and 'have taken action to improve the situation'. This includes extra signs for vehicles heading towards the area along Western Way. TfL is also adjusting traffic light timings across the area to improve traffic flow and advising bus drivers on how the works affect their routes. Daily meetings with TfL have been set up to avoid 'disruption like the situation experienced yesterday as much as possible'. Royal Borough of Greenwich stressed that the works to repair bridge parapets on Pettman Crescent are 'essential' to keep it safe. The works will last from August 11 to September 5. The council says it scheduled the works to happen in the summer holidays to reduce impact. A statement issued by Royal Borough of Greenwich reads: 'We understand how frustrating the rush hour traffic issues were around Woolwich and Plumstead yesterday (Monday 11 August 2025). 'We called a meeting with Transport for London (TfL) today and have taken action to improve the situation. 'We have installed additional signage for vehicles heading towards the area along Western Way. 'TfL is also adjusting traffic light timings across the area to improve traffic flow and briefing bus drivers on how the works affect their routes. 'We've also set up daily meetings with TfL to monitor the situation to minimise any future disruption like the situation experienced yesterday as much as possible. 'The major maintenance works taking place are essential to keep Pettman Crescent bridge on the A206 in West Thamesmead, Plumstead and Glyndon safe to use and were scheduled between 11 August to 5 September - during the school summer holidays to reduce the impact as much as possible. 'The following bus routes are affected 53, N53, 96, 99, 177, 180, 422, 469, N1, 122, 244, 301 and 380. These works do not [affect] pedestrians.'

US teen influencer pilot accused of unauthorized Antarctic landing reaches deal to leave Chile
A judge in Chile has agreed to suspend proceedings against a teenage American pilot and social media influencer who has been stuck on a remote Antarctic island since late June after he was accused of landing there without permission. Ethan Guo was attempting to fly to all seven continents solo, raising funds for cancer research, when he landed on a part of Antarctica where the South American country maintains a territorial claim. Prosecutors accused him of providing false information to ground control about his landing point. On Monday, a judge approved an agreement between Guo's lawyers and prosecutors to suspend the proceedings on the condition that he donate $30,000 to a children's cancer foundation within 30 days. He must also leave the country and will be prohibited from reentering Chilean territory for three years. Chilean prosecutor Cristián Crisoto told reporters on Monday that Guo and his plane were still in Antarctic territory and that he would also have to pay the costs of 'aircraft security and personal maintenance.' Chilean authorities said that Guo had submitted a false flight plan and took off from Carlos Ibáñez del Campo Airport in the southern Chilean city of Punta Arenas as the sole passenger and crew member aboard a Cessna 182Q aircraft, registered as N182WT. At one point during that flight, authorities say he turned off course toward Antarctica. Guo's lawyer has previously said that the young pilot experienced 'complications' while flying. 'While already in the air, he began to experience a series of complications,' Karina Ulloa said, adding that Guo claims 'that he was conducting an exploratory flight to see if he could follow this route or not.' Guo, whose website states he was trying to raise $1 million for cancer research by becoming 'the first person ever to fly to all seven continents solo,' had broadcast his continent-hopping journey since last September to more than a million Instagram followers.
