BBC Radio Manchester's Joe McGrath says Manchester United are currently "giving with one hand and taking with the other" after fans experienced the highs of getting to the Europa League final followed by the lows of losing to West Ham in the Premier League.Speaking on The Devils' Advocate podcast, McGrath said: "I think Ruben Amorim has brought the players down to such a level, with his way of speaking, that when they go up against a team like West Ham they can lose."If we got knocked out of the Europa League against Athletic Club and we played how we did against West Ham, I would have sacked him," he added.When asked whether the club should sack Amorim if they lose the Europa League final against Tottenham, McGrath said: "It depends on how we lose the final."This season has been a disgrace - six wins out of 24 and 17 defeat overall in the Premier League."But we had a decent team out against West Ham, so why were we beaten? Are we one striker away from glory? Am I being too critical?"BBC Radio Manchester's Gaz Drinkwater added: "I do think that no matter what happens, we do have to ask questions about a manager that has come in and put Manchester United potentially 17th place in the Premier League."Can any manager survive finishing 17th with Manchester United?"What worries me is that it stinks of the Erik ten Hag situation. Napoli 'make contact' with Liverpool over Darwin Nunez transfer, but Man United star also features on 'Antonio Conte's three-man striker shortlist'
Napoli are reportedly targeting Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez for a summer move. The Reds broke their transfer record to sign Nunez from Benfica for £85million in 2022 but he is ready to leave Anfield after a lack of starting opportunities under Arne Slot. The 25-year-old scored seven times last season as Liverpool wrapped up the Premier League title and he is contracted until 2028. Saudi side Al-Nassr previously made enquiries to sign the Uruguay international in January and were prepared to offer £70m but Liverpool were unwilling to listen at that stage as their focus was on winning the league title. The Italian champions are now pushing for his signature as they look to become less reliant on Romelu Lukaku, and have made contact with the striker, according to Football Italia. Former Chelsea and Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is looking to strenghthen his Napoli side as they look to retain the league next season and compete in the latter stages of the Champions League. The Naples outfit have also reportedly identified Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund or Udinese forward Lorenzo Lucca as alternatives. Hojlund's contract also does not expire until June 2028 with an option for a further year but his Old Trafford appears uncertain. The Dane cost United £64m plus a further £8m in potential add-ons when he made the move from Atalanta in August 2023. However, he has struggled to live up to that price-tag, managing just four goals in 32 Premier League games last season. Speaking after Denmark's 2-1 friendly victory over Northern Ireland on Saturday night, he told TV 2 Sport: 'I have a contract [until 2028], so I expect to play for Manchester United. 'I'm looking forward to going on a summer vacation, and then I'm fully dedicated to the project that's underway. 'I know I can't get much out of reading things. I know what the facts are, and that is that I have a contract with Manchester United. 'I expect to play there, so I'm just getting ready for some summer vacation and then hopefully a good pre-season.' Ruben Amorim's side are in the market for a new striker and will listen to suitable offers for Hojlund. Meanwhile, Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is also being hunted by Napoli. The 25-year-old joined Chelsea's academy in 2007 and made his international debut on Tuesday night as England fell to a 3-1 defeat to Senegal. Chelsea slapped a £40million price tag on Chalobah in January, having valued him at £25m last summer. Asked about his future, Chalobah, who has also played for Ipswich, Huddersfield, and Lorient, said: 'For me, I just have to focus on the now, leave all the noise out there that is surrounding me and my future. Napoli are also closing in on a two-year deal for Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian will fly to Naples on Thursday for his medical and to take the formal steps needed to confirm his move from Manchester City. QPR are set to name former Rennes and Strasbourg boss Julien Stephan as the club's new head coach. Rangers placed Marti Cifuentes on gardening leave in April after Sunsport revealed he was close to quitting the club following a breakdown in his relationship with 27-year-old chief executive Christian Nourry. 2 2 The decision to stand down Cifuentes came after the Spaniard's representatives made contact with West Brom following Tony Mowbray's sacking last month. Stephan has agreed terms on a two-year deal with the Championship club. QPR have been out of the top flight since relegation from the Premier League in 2015. They are preparing for their 11th-straight season in the Championship, with just two top-half finishes in that time. Last season they finished 15th, six points clear of the relegation zone but ten behind the playoff places in what was ultimately a disappointing campaign.

Hull City have given Sergej Jakirovic an opportunity for his first taste of English football after sacking previous head coach Ruben Selles - but some of you aren't so pleased for what you had to say about the appointment:Rob: Yet another bizarre appointment by the chairman. No experience of English football and in particular the Championship, which is such a difficult league. I hope I'm wrong but this just smacks of the previous two appointments whereby the chairman had to sack them and bring someone else in. I'm not holding my breath I don't get it! Firstly the decision to part with Rosenior after a seventh-placed finish, then to jettison Selles after keeping them up! What does the owner want? Why not go for someone with a proven track record in the Championship?Joe: As Hull fan that's watched us every week, week in week out, we need to actually concentrate on the squad and the quality we bring in. We need players who want to play for the club and give it their all, and realise we are a Championship team and the style of football has to be to win as many games as possible and realise we aren't gonna hammer people 5-0 every week - we have to win the close games. Hopefully he will be given the tools he needs to build a strong I cannot believe we are doing this again. It's the exact same as last season.
