Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi praised Amakhosi debutante Aden McCarthy, after the 21 year-old was given his first Premier Soccer League start in the 1-1 Betway Premiership draw with Sekhukhune United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

McCarthy played at left back and generally gave an assured display, with Chiefs missing several defenders through injury and suspension.
Chiefs' Nabi – 'A very good performance'
'I want to take the opportunity to congratulate Aden McCarthy. It was his first game in the Premier League and he gave a very good performance,' Nabi told SuperSport TV.
The draw at Sekhukhune keeps Chiefs in ninth place in the Premiership, tied on 31 points with eighth-placed Chippa United and tenth-placed Marumo Gallants.
A win at home to Polokwane City, who are two points above Chiefs in seventh, in their last league game of the season on May 24 should be enough to qualify Chiefs for next season's MTN8. But the Nedbank Cup champions have made it difficult for themselves after a run of eight Premiership games in a row without a win.
'In the last game we need to fight for the three points. It will not be easy but we hope to get some players back from injury and suspension,' added Nabi.
'Today we had no defender on the bench. But congratulations to the players, they gave everything to get the three points (today), but there is still a chance and we will do everything we can to finish in the top eight.'
Sekhukhune are chasing third place and a spot alongside Chiefs in next season's Caf Confederation Cup. And it looked good for Eric Tinkler's side on Saturday. as they took a fourth minute lead through Mpho Rammala.
'A deserved point'
Glody Lilepo, however, equalised on the stroke of half time for Amakhosi. The draw means Sekhukhune have been over taken by Stellenbosch, who beat SuperSport United 2-1.

'We feel three points could have gone either way,' added Nabi.
'Both teams had chances to score. But with all the absences that we had, we feel it is a deserved point.'

Real Madrid pay fee to sign Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool before Club World Cup

Real Madrid have signed Trent Alexander-Arnold on a six-year deal, the LaLiga club said on Friday, paying Liverpool a fee to release the England defender from his contract a month early to allow him to join before the Club World Cup. Alexander-Arnold, who joined Liverpool when he was six and made 354 appearances for the Premier League side since his senior debut in 2016, said earlier this month he would leave the club once his contract expired on June 30. However, Real have signed Alexander-Arnold before his Liverpool contract ended, making him available for the Club World Cup to be played from June 14-July 13 in the US. 'Liverpool will receive a fee for his services, with the deal to be concluded once the window opens on June 1,' Liverpool said in a statement, with British media reporting Real paid the Premier League champions £10m (R240.87m). Newly-appointed Real coach Xabi Alonso will hope Alexander-Arnold's inclusion solves the club's defensive woes, with right-back Daniel Carvajal among five defenders out with injuries.

'You have to make the right choice': Bafana coach Broos on Mofokeng's European prospects

A year ago, Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos warned of rushing Relebohile Mofokeng to find a club in Europe saying the Orlando Pirates attacker needed at least one more season in the PSL and also to gain experience playing in the Caf Champions League. After announcing his squad to face Tanzania and Mozambique in friendlies early next month the Bafana coach was asked how he now feels about the 20-year-old who had trials with Premier League club Wolves last year. Mofokeng is now a regular at Bafana and was included in the squad to play Tanzania and Mozambique where he will be accompanied by other promising young players from Pirates — Mbezekeli Mbokazi, Simphiwe Selepe and Mohau Nkota. In the season that has just finished, Mofokeng played a huge role in helping Pirates reach the semifinals of the Champions League where he contributed five goals and provided three assists in the 13 games he played. Mofokeng's contributions in the Betway Premiership to help Pirates finish second for a third time in a row were also not bad for someone who is not an out-and-out striker.

SA-born sports journalist exits Sky Sports

South African-born journalist Melissa Reddy is one of seven presenters who have now parted ways with the British sports broadcaster Sky Sports. According to the UK-based publication Daily Mail, Reddy and her colleagues were recently informed that their roles had been made redundant. An insider told the publication that this was not a cost-cutting decision, but rather one aimed at ensuring their football audience is better served. Reddy first joined the network in 2022 as a senior football reporter, following her role as deputy editor of Kick Off magazine in South Africa. Others affected by the recent move include Teddy Porter, Jasper Taylor, Jeremy Langdon and Ladumo Olow. She has since taken to Instagram, highlighting that while one chapter has come to an end, another opportunity lies ahead. She also hinted that she might be releasing her own book, sharing stories of some of her greatest experiences. 'Eleventh! Season of Premier League coverage done, and I've called time on three years at Sky. I'll still be doing bits and bobs for them, but I'm genuinely so excited to share all the things I'll be working on soon, which will allow me to focus on my strengths and passions,' she wrote. 'For those that have been asking for the past five years, yes – that will include new books.'
