Wrexham signs former England defender Conor Coady from Leicester
Coady brings 198 games' worth of Premier League experience and 10 appearances for the English national team. He was part of England's squad at the last World Cup in 2022 but didn't play.
'I'm over the moon. It's a special day, I'll be honest," the 32-year-old defender said in a club statement. 'We've all seen what the club has done over the past few years and for me to join is really special and I can't wait to meet the boys and get started.'
Coady arrives for an undisclosed fee from Leicester, one of Wrexham's opponents in the Championship in the upcoming season. He signed a two-year contract with an option for a further year.
The club made internationally famous by its celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney and the 'Welcome to Wrexham" documentary series is doing things differently after returning to the second tier for the first time since the 1980s.
As well as staging a preseason tour of Australia and New Zealand, Wrexham has parted company with the experienced Paul Mullin and Steven Fletcher, and signed players like United States international Damion Downs.
Wrexham's Championship campaign begins at Southampton on Aug. 9.

TOM Bradshaw is looking to put an injury-hit first few months at Oxford United behind him and build on the goalscoring rhythm he has enjoyed in pre-season. The 33-year-old striker joined the U's from Millwall for an undisclosed fee midway through the January transfer window, but fitness and injury concerns limited him to just 11 Sky Bet Championship appearances, with only four of those starts. It's been a good solid pre-season. I haven't had any sort of setbacks and physically I feel really good. I feel confident. 'As a team, the numbers that we're putting up are higher than some of our games last year. 'I think that's a really positive sign and it shows we've put a real emphasis on fitness and drive this pre-season, and I think it's starting to show. 'At this point in pre-season, it's about fine-tuning how we are as a team on the ball and off the ball, and getting those details right so by the time Portsmouth comes, we should be all ready and hopefully we can pick up a win.' Reflecting on the game against Leganes, Bradshaw said: 'It was a good test for us. Notoriously, Spanish teams like to pass the ball, and I think it tested us off the ball and it also gave us some transitions as well. 'I think we probably could've scored more on the day, but I think our performance in general was a positive and it's something we can take into the game on Saturday, and try and refine all the points that we want to make right for the start of the season.'

The Oxford United duo linked up neatly to open the scoring in Tuesday night's pre-season draw at home against CD Leganes. Dembele won back possession down the left-hand side and then threaded a pass into the channel of the penalty area, allowing Bradshaw to run onto it and finish inside the near post. The way Dems likes to get into pockets and really try and commit defences, and run at them, and that's perfect for me because I love playing off shoulders. 'I think Dems is very good at committing defenders and doing little sliding balls. I spoke about it to him all week. 'As soon as I drop my shoulder, he can slide me in, and it makes it really hard for the defence to either cut it out or tackle me, or he can cut inside and get a shot off. 'I think it's starting to build those bonds that I didn't necessarily get last season through injuries and stuff like that. It's been a real positive pre-season for me and hopefully I can keep going.' Dembele on the left-hand side was a threat for United against Los Pepineros, while Stan Mills was a willing crosser from the right wing. Bradshaw said: 'Teams need balance. Stan's strengths are final balls, hugging the touchline, stretching the defence, and Dems likes to cut inside. You need that balance in a team and I think they both did really well.'

Fantastic four hoping to break longest padel marathon world record in Colchester
A PADEL tennis playing quartet from Colchester are hoping to break the world record for the longest padel marathon. Craig Maiden, 34, Ben Lampon, 34, Joe Heron, 30 and Luke Finn, 33 will take to the David Lloyd courts hoping to better the 31 hour record on Saturday, August 15. They will begin at 5am and continue until the challenge is complete. Practice - Preparations are underway for their long stint on the court (Image: Ben Lampon) The current record stands at 31 hours, 38 minutes and 50 seconds, completed in London back in September 2023. To break the record they must have the same four members who are playing throughout the attempt. Location - The team will be hoping they can make the most of the David Lloyd court (Image: Ben Lampon) It also refers to the game having to be "played in the spirit of the rules, with no substantial pauses in an attempt to gain rest and prolong the marathon". Their attempt will be raising money for four charities, with each individual picking their own charity. The four charities are St Helena Hospice, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Parkinson's UK and Breast Cancer Research. They hope to raise £4,000 target. Aside from padel, there will also be a barbecue, DJ's and raffles for those cheering them on. The event is open to the public to come and support them and don't need to be a David Lloyd member. Ben said: 'We've been playing every Monday since September, we got the bug for it and we've been playing ever since. 'The idea came from an Instagram post we saw about the record, and we thought we could do it. 'We applied with the Guinness Book of Records in the hope they would accept and they did. 'We're quite ego driven individuals, so we'll have have to die before we come off the court, 'We're all really excited, it isn't something you do every day.' Craig added: 'Raising money for these charities is great and we can't wait for it to start, we've all been trying to prepare for it. 'The hardest part from my point of view is just motivating each other to get through the night. 'We know once the sunlight comes up on the Saturday we would have broken the record.'
