Scorching Summer In Kuwait To Begin June 7

Arab Times24-05-2025

KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The Al-Ajari Scientific Center has announced that the Al-Batin season will begin tomorrow, Sunday. This marks the final phase of the Al-Kanna season and will last for 13 days. It is distinguished by shorter shadows on certain days, as the sun's rays fall almost directly overhead.
In a press release, the center explained that the appearance of the Al-Batin star is typically accompanied by strong northwesterly winds. These winds, along with rising temperatures from sunrise to sunset, often lead to the spread of dust and sand in the air.
During this period, daylight will extend beyond 13 hours and 47 minutes, with sunset occurring at 6:38 PM, resulting in shorter nights.
The center also noted that following the end of Al-Batin, the Thuraya (Pleiades) season will begin on June 7, 2025, signaling the true start of summer. The coming two weeks will be marked by dry conditions and a steady rise in temperatures.
It added that during the Pleiades period, temperatures are expected to climb significantly, reaching high levels in several parts of the country and across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.

Kuwait to witness several celestial events this June

KUWAIT CITY, June 4: The Al-Ajari Scientific Center announced on Wednesday that June will feature a variety of notable astronomical phenomena visible in the Kuwaiti sky. On June 7, the moon will reach the farthest point in its orbit around Earth, a phenomenon known as the 'Moon at Apogee.' During this event, the moon will appear slightly smaller than usual. The center also highlighted the full moon on June 11, popularly called the 'Strawberry Moon,' named after the strawberries that ripen during this time in the northern hemisphere. A close conjunction between the moon and Saturn is expected on June 19, when the two will be approximately 23 degrees apart. At that time, the moon will be 23 days old. June 21 marks the summer solstice—the longest day of the year—when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. This day also signals the official start of summer in the northern hemisphere. Additionally, Jupiter will be in conjunction with the sun on June 24, passing close to the sun as it moves around the far side of the solar system. Following this, on June 26, a new moon will appear coinciding with the moon's 'perigee,' its closest point to Earth in its orbit, at a distance of approximately 1.01140 astronomical units from the sun. Finally, on June 30, the moon and Mars will share the same ascendant. The moon will pass 12 degrees north of Mars and will be five days old. The Al-Ajari Scientific Center encourages skywatchers to observe these remarkable celestial events throughout the month.

Strong winds and dust storms continue across Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, June 4: Acting Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali, confirmed Wednesday that Kuwait will continue to experience strong northwesterly winds, with speeds sometimes exceeding 50 kilometers per hour. These winds are expected to raise dust and reduce horizontal visibility, particularly in exposed areas. In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ali said weather charts and numerical models show that the country has been under the influence of strong winds since the morning. These winds are not only causing dust storms but also raising sea waves to heights of over six feet. He attributed the ongoing weather conditions to an extension of a surface low-pressure system accompanied by a hot and dry air mass. A relative decrease in wind speeds is expected by Thursday afternoon, he added. Al-Ali noted that the general weather will remain hot during the day and warm to hot at night, with dust expected to gradually settle overnight. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows are expected to range from 27 to 30 degrees Celsius. He urged citizens and residents, especially those with asthma or allergies, to wear protective masks. He also advised beachgoers to take precautions due to high waves, and motorists to remain cautious of sudden drops in visibility and potential sand accumulation on highways.

Health and Safety Alert as Kuwait to Get Dusty

KUWAIT CITY, Jun 3: Strong northwesterly winds have been sweeping across the country since early Tuesday morning, triggering widespread dust storms and severely reducing visibility, according to the Director of the Meteorology Department, Dharar Al-Ali. Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Ali reported that wind speeds have exceeded 60 kilometers per hour at times, particularly in open areas. These powerful gusts have stirred up dust and sand, reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 meters, and in some places, even to near zero. 'These active winds have also caused significant sand drift and accumulation on roads,' he said, warning motorists to exercise caution. 'Wave heights have risen above six feet along coastal areas.' The unsettled weather is expected to persist through Wednesday, with intermittent dust storms continuing throughout the day. However, a gradual easing of wind speeds is forecast to begin Thursday afternoon as a surface low-pressure system, accompanied by a hot, dry air mass, moves across the region. Daytime conditions over the coming days are expected to remain hot and dusty, while nighttime weather will be hot to warm, with dust levels anticipated to gradually decrease. According to Al-Ali, maximum daytime temperatures are expected to range between 40 and 43 degrees Celsius, while nighttime lows are anticipated to hover between 27 and 30 degrees Celsius. He advised residents, especially those with asthma or allergies, to wear protective masks when venturing outdoors. Beachgoers are cautioned about wave heights reaching up to 7 feet, and highway drivers are urged to remain vigilant due to the risk of sudden drops in visibility. Stay tuned for updates as the Meteorology Department continues to monitor weather developments.
