Kuwait's real summer heat kicks in June 7th
KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The Al-Ojairi Scientific Center announced that the 'Al-Bateen' star season will begin on Sunday and last for 13 days, marking the final phase of the 'Al-Kanna' season. In a press statement, the center explained that this period is characterized by short shadows on some days and intense sunlight directly overhead. It also brings strong northwesterly winds and high daytime temperatures, often resulting in dust storms. During 'Al-Bateen', daylight extends to over 13 hours and 47 minutes, with sunset delayed until 6:38 p.m., and nights becoming shorter. Despite temperatures nearing 50°C, the center stated that the 'Thuraya' season, which is considered the actual beginning of summer, will start on June 7. The center also highlighted that dry conditions and a gradual temperature rise are expected over the next 13 days. It stated that during the 'Thuraya' season, temperatures are expected to reach high levels in several countries, including the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. Meanwhile, despite the continuous remarkable rise in temperatures approaching 50 degrees Celsius, the closure of ministries and government agencies during the weekend led to a drop in the load index on Friday and Saturday by around 706 megawatts. The index recorded 16,294 megawatts, compared to about 17,000 megawatts on Thursday, which prompted the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy to implement scheduled power outages in some parts of 64 residential, agricultural and industrial areas. In the same context, the ministry announced on Saturday morning that it might be forced to cut off power in some parts of agricultural and industrial areas; including Wafra, Rawdatain, Abdally Agricultural Area, Mina Abdullah, Subhan, Shuwaikh Al-Rai and Sulaibiya Industrial Area. It excluded the residential areas in the scheduled power outages.

Scorching Summer In Kuwait To Begin June 7
KUWAIT CITY, May 24: The Al-Ajari Scientific Center has announced that the Al-Batin season will begin tomorrow, Sunday. This marks the final phase of the Al-Kanna season and will last for 13 days. It is distinguished by shorter shadows on certain days, as the sun's rays fall almost directly overhead. In a press release, the center explained that the appearance of the Al-Batin star is typically accompanied by strong northwesterly winds. These winds, along with rising temperatures from sunrise to sunset, often lead to the spread of dust and sand in the air. During this period, daylight will extend beyond 13 hours and 47 minutes, with sunset occurring at 6:38 PM, resulting in shorter nights. The center also noted that following the end of Al-Batin, the Thuraya (Pleiades) season will begin on June 7, 2025, signaling the true start of summer. The coming two weeks will be marked by dry conditions and a steady rise in temperatures. It added that during the Pleiades period, temperatures are expected to climb significantly, reaching high levels in several parts of the country and across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region.
