Valmet secures Shotton Mill furnace upgrade contract in UK
The upgrade is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
The order, which was included in Valmet's first-quarter orders received this year, has not had its value disclosed.
This strategic move aims to enhance the mill's operations and extend the life of its bubbling fluidised bed (BFB) boiler furnace.
The majority of the mill's BFB boiler furnace will be fitted with coated panels designed to protect against corrosion and erosion, prolonging the furnace's lifespan.
In addition to the physical upgrade, Valmet will provide Shotton Mill with comprehensive support through a long-term service agreement, which includes site inspection services.
The service agreement also includes a customised online training package for Shotton Mill's employees.
Shotton Mill energy manager Mehmet Arel said: 'We are delighted to continue strengthening our partnership with Valmet as they deliver this vital furnace upgrade and long-term service agreement to Shotton Mill.'
Valmet EMEA service manager Nigel Earp said: 'We are very pleased to be awarded the furnace upgrade and are looking forward to safely and successfully delivering the project for Shotton Mill.
'The service agreement will further strengthen our cooperation with the customer, enabling us to develop the mill's operations together over the coming years.'
Shotton Mill is currently implementing a substantial investment programme, which includes the installation of a new containerboard production line and a tissue production line, both provided by Valmet.
Once these lines are operational, the mill will possess the capability to produce 750,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of containerboard and 67,000tpa of tissue paper.
In February 2025, Valmet secured a contract to supply its automation and quality management solutions to Shandong Jintianhe Paper in China.

Now the Daily Mail has reported that this was not the only promise broken by the Magpies. According to them, a well placed source not connected to either club has claimed that Isak's fury also comes from the fact that he believed Newcastle had agreed that they would sell him if a bid in excess of £100m was made for his services. Liverpool did exactly that with their £110m offer, which was promptly rejected. Now if this report is true you can understand Isak's frustration. Newcastle were clearly ready to let him go according to his understand. But they've gone back on this promise. They've outright rejected a bid they supposedly said they would agree to. With the relationship at such a boiling point, it's hard to foresee just how this situation is moved on from here. Right now it's impossible to predict. It's hard to see a way back for Isak. It's hard to see Liverpool give up on their pursuit of the Swede international. So even if the saga ends with Newcastle staying firm in their stance by the end of the window, it won't entirely be over. The discussions will return in January.

Olivia Smith Admits Meeting Marta At 2015 World Cup Changed Her Life
The day she lost her position as the world's most expensive female player, Olivia Smith - the first to move for a million pounds - admits she never worried about her price. This week, Smith collected the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) award for the best Young Player of the Year last season. Her eye-catching performances for Liverpool earned her the illustrious accolade and in doing so, she became the first foreign woman to ever be voted in by her fellow professionals. Smith had already made the move last month from Liverpool to Arsenal with the new European club champions paying a transfer fee of $1.36 million (£1 million). She therefore became the first woman in the English game to move for over a million British pounds. Earlier today, Orlando Pride broke that record by signing Jacqueline Ovalle from Tigres in Mexico for a reported $1.5 million. Smith had held the position for a mere 35 days but there will be never be another first within the English game. The transfer in January of the United States defender Naomi Girma made her the first million dollar player but amounted to less in sterling. The one million pound threshold was first crossed in the men's game 46 years ago when Trevor Francis moved from Birmingham City to Nottingham Forest. That move came 25 years before Smith was even born but she is all too aware of the significance of his name. 'At the end of the day, a price tag is a price tag, she said when questioned about her seven-figure valuation. "It's not something I'm really focused on. I'm just focused on being on the pitch, learning from a great set of players. I think it's also great to see the development of women's football and that price going up as well. Obviously, it's an honor to have achieved that.' 'To come with such a hefty price tag, for such a young player like me, I think they see the potential that I have. They see, like my mum said, I'm hungry, I'm driven, I want to learn, I want to grow and I want to win things ultimately. The money is not really a big deal for me.' Smith will be moving club for the third year in succession having joined Liverpool from Sporting CP in Lisbon the previous summer. A young woman living on another contintent, she concedes that relocating constantly is 'not comfortable, but you have to be comfortable being uncomfortable.' 'It's been quite tough for me personally, not knowing what's going to come next. My first year in Europe, I never expected to leave Sporting after one season. It's not easy, especially when my family is so far away, but it does make transitions easier, building relationships with people here.' At Arsenal she will at least link up with one old acquaintance, the United States international Jenna Nighswonger. Their paths briefly crossed at Florida State University before Smith opted to go to Penn State. 'I didn't stay there long,' she admits, 'but she was my mentor for about two or three months when I first arrived there.' I actually remember attending the Brazil game that was in Montréal. As a lot of people probably know, Marta is also one of my biggest idols that I modelled my game after.' 'It's pretty special watching that World Cup, and I think that was also a turning point in my career realistically. I had actually gotten the chance to speak to Marta and she gave me a lot of insight on what it's like growing up not having women's football idols, because she didn't have one. I think it's so special now for the girls to look up to people like us doing what we do.'

The company, which finalized a ten-year lease on its headquarters in London's Shoreditch in 2022, rebranded under the former soccer star in June 2020, turned heads when it completed its public market flotation on the London Stock Exchange the following October, with a market capitalization of $52.3 million. However, following its acquisition by DCB Sports in October 2024 for £100,000 ($134,000) — and withdrawing from the LSE to become a privately traded company — Guild has run into financial difficulties, which it attributed to the 'current economic climate.' For more casual fans like me, esports is an ever more unpredictable industry. Gone are the days of the mega deals with sponsors, even if the big-stage competitions continue. Still, I'm sad Guild's gone. Let's hope, for the sake of other teams, it's not the next of many.
