Floods: Ramanan seeks emergency supply centre in Sungai Buloh
Ramanan, who is also Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, said the request will be channelled through Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri to facilitate and expedite the distribution of essential items to the public more efficiently.
'In addition, I will also be appealing to the Selangor government to speed up the Flood Mitigation Project in the Sungai Buloh parliamentary constituency to prevent such incidents from recurring,' he said in a Facebook post.
He also suggested that a coordination meeting involving all relevant agencies be held soon for this purpose.
He pointed out that more than 100 houses, including those in Kampung Paya Jaras Hilir, Kampung Kubu Gajah, Taman Seri Alam and several surrounding areas, were affected by flash floods following continuous heavy rain since yesterday.
As of 1.20 pm today, Ramanan said nearly 200 families had been relocated to temporary evacuation centres (PPS), involving PPS Dewan MBSA Seri Pagi (26 families); PPS Dewan Kenanga PDT Petaling (59 families); PPS Dewan Bunga Matahari (22 families); and PPS SK Merbau Sempak (100 families).
Ramanan, who also surveyed the affected areas, expressed his gratitude to all parties for their prompt and effective cooperation in addressing the situation, including the Sungai Buloh Parliamentary Constituency Service Centre and the Sungai Buloh PKR Division, in collaboration with the Residents' Representative Council, village heads, and relevant government agencies.
'We will continue to monitor the current situation and ensure that all necessary measures are taken to safeguard the safety and welfare of residents.
Besides Sungai Buloh, other districts in Selangor affected by flash floods include Petaling Jaya and Subang Jaya.

6 areas including Baling under Level 1 hot weather alert
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) announced that six areas across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak are under Level 1 (caution) status regarding the latest hot weather conditions. Water bombing slows 105ha forest fire in Mukah

Mukah Fire and Rescue Station chief Nicholas Belulin said the firefighting operation was carried out by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) using an Mi-171 helicopter equipped with an underslung water bombing system. 'A total of four water bombings were carried out at 3.30pm, releasing 6,360 litres of water over the affected area,' he said in a statement early this morning. 'This prompt action managed to slow the fire's movement and helped prevent it from spreading to nearby areas.' However, the operation was halted after 42 minutes due to technical issues with the aircraft's system. 'Inspection found that several components need to be replaced, and the spare parts will be delivered by the maintenance team via road tonight (last night),' he said. Nicholas added that yesterday's operation was conducted in hazy conditions, with visibility at around 8km and winds blowing at speeds of 10 to 15 knots. According to him, the forest fire in Mukah was first detected on July 24 and firefighting efforts have been ongoing in stages since then. 'The Fire and Rescue Department has been conducting aerial monitoring and creating fire breaks to prevent the blaze from spreading further into oil palm plantations and nearby settlements.' He added that water bombing was introduced as an additional measure after the fire proved difficult to control through conventional ground-based methods due to the vast area and limited accessibility. Air quality in Mukah deteriorates further, records Malaysia's only unhealthy API reading of 160 as of 8am
Haze situation in Mukah yesterday afternoon. – The Borneo Post Team KUCHING (July 31): Air quality in Mukah has continued to deteriorate with an unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 160 as of 8am today. According to the Department of Environment's (DoE) Air Pollutant Index Management System (Apims) data, Mukah has recorded an API of 160 since 3am. At 12 noon yesterday, the API reading in Mukah was moderate at 98. Since then, the API for the area has moved steadily upward. All other areas under DOE's Apims in Sarawak maintained a moderate air quality level. The Borneo Post reported yesterday that Mukah was the only district in Malaysia to record an unhealthy air quality of 107 as of 6pm. Sibu recorded the second highest API in Sarawak at 90, followed by Miri and Kapit at 73, and Kuching at 71. Other stations in the state reported readings ranging from 58 to 69. An API reading between 101 and 200 is categorised as unhealthy and may pose health risks to sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory conditions. API readings of 51 to 100 show moderate air quality. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds for Kuching; Samarahan; Betong; Sarikei; Kanowit and Selangau in Sibu; Tanjung Manis and Daro in Mukah; Song, Kapit, and Bukit Mabong; as well as Tatau, Bintulu until noon today. The department said in a Facebook post that a warning is issued when there are indications of a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20 mm/hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour. A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issue. Yesterday, the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) in a 5.22pm update reported scattered clusters of hotspots in western Kalimantan, along with a few to isolated hotspots in Sarawak, Peninsular Malaysia, and Sumatra.
