Proteas seamer Kagiso Rabada aims for more major ICC trophies after WTC title

News185 days ago
New Delhi [India], August 8 (ANI): South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has urged his teammates to move on from their recent success in the ICC World Test Championship Final and concentrate on winning more major trophies, according to the ICC website. The Proteas broke a long drought when defeating the Aussies in the World Test Championship Final at Lord's earlier this year and will renew rivalries with their close rival during six white-ball contests in Australia, starting with a three-game T20I series that commences in Darwin on Sunday. While Rabada has many fond memories from the memorable encounter at the Home of Cricket in June, South Africa's pace spearhead wants his players to forget about their recent success and target more major victories at upcoming ICC events.Rabada will be part of South Africa's title at next year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka and is sure to still be a part of the setup when the country co-hosts the 14th edition of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup alongside Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2027.'It was kind of like a relief," Rabada said in relation to winning the World Test Championship Final over Australia. But the show moves on, and moving toward the T20 World Cup, I guess the approach will be a bit different. Now there's no fear of anything," Rabada said. Rabada is hoping to use the upcoming matches in Australia as preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup at the start of next year and belives taking on the Aussies will provide his side with a stern challenge.'The rivalry between Australia and South Africa has always been something to behold. It's always some hard cricket being played … whenever we play Australia. It always feels like they get the best out of us, because they're in our faces," he added. And with Rabada now a senior member of South Africa's attack, the right-armer is keen to help the next generation of promising fast bowlers – like teenager Kwena Maphaka – progress through the ranks in international cricket.'Yeah, I'd like to do that for quite a lot of the players. From my point of view, I feel that I'm obliged to almost take them under extra care. But I think he's going to learn from his own experiences as well and from his own journey. And we're just there to be a sounding board," Rabada said. T20I squad: Aiden Markram (c), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Nqaba Peter, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Prenelan Subrayen, Rassie van der DussenODI squad: Temba Bavuma (c), Corbin Bosch, Matthew Breetzke, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, Tony de Zorzi, Aiden Markram, Senuran Muthusamy, Keshav Maharaj, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, Prenelan SubrayenSeries schedule:First T20I – 10 August, Marrara Stadium, DarwinSecond T20I – 12 August, Marrara Stadium, DarwinThird T20I – 16 August, Cazalys Stadium, CairnsFirst ODI – 19 August, Cazalys Stadium, CairnsSecond ODI – 22 August, Great Barrier Reef Arena, MackayThird ODI – 24 August, Great Barrier Reef Arena, Mackay. ICC Penalises Corbin Bosch After ‘THIS' Gesture In Heated T20I Clash Against Australia

South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been penalised for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second T20I against Australia at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Tuesday. Bosch was found guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code, which prohibits 'using language, actions or gestures which disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.' The incident occurred in the 17th over of Australia's innings when Bosch dismissed Ben Dwarshuis and made a send-off gesture towards the players' dugout, an act deemed capable of provoking the batter. As a result, Bosch received one demerit point on his disciplinary record. He accepted the sanction proposed by the ICC Match Officials, which meant no formal hearing was required. South Africa Level the Series in Style The match itself was a high-stakes encounter, with South Africa trailing 1-0 in the series and desperate to force a decider. After a shaky start, the visitors were rescued by a sensational unbeaten 125 from young batting prodigy Dewald Brevis, scored off just 56 balls. Brevis, who reached his century in only 41 deliveries, became the youngest Men's T20I centurion for South Africa and registered the second-fastest T20I hundred in the nation's history. His heroics powered the Proteas to an imposing 218/7. In reply, Tim David gave Australia hope with a rapid 24-ball half-century, but Bosch and Kwena Maphaka shared three wickets each to dismiss the hosts for 165, sealing a 53-run victory for South Africa. Decider in Cairns The win sets up a thrilling series decider in Cairns on Saturday, August 16, before the two teams turn their attention to the ODI series starting August 19.

'Dewald Brevis, Kwena Maphaka Will Be…': Chris Morris' Massive Prediction For SA20 Auction'

Last Updated: Chris Morris looks forward to SA20 Season 4 Player Auction. With a USD 7.4 million purse, 84 slots are open. Morris names Kwena Mphaka and Dewald Brevis as top picks. With the SA20 Season 4 Player Auction just around the corner, former Proteas all-rounder Chris Morris believes this year's dynamics will make for fascinating viewing. The six franchises will have a combined purse of USD 7.4 million to fill 84 slots and complete their 19-player squads — making this the biggest SA20 auction since the league's inception in 2022. Speaking to SuperSport ahead of the Season 4 auction, Morris asserted that the likes of Kwena Maphaka and Dewald Brevis will attract big bucks. Both youngsters have been phenomenal in the ongoing bilateral series against Australia. Brevis smashed a scintillating hundred in the second T20I in Darwin and is currently the second-highest run-getter of the series. Maphaka, on the other hand, is leading the wicket charts with seven scalps in 2 matches. He returned 4/20 in the first T20I, becoming the youngest bowler to pick a four-wicket haul in the shortest format of the game. 'The auction is always exciting, no matter the tournament, but SA20 is the big one, with most of the players back in the pool. There have been a lot of retentions and several wild cards picked up, so it will be interesting to see how the teams go about building their squads," Morris said. 'I think Kwena Maphaka is going to be at the centre of a bidding frenzy. Dewald Brevis is another, given he hasn't been retained. Rassie van der Dussen, with his experience, could also be in demand. Personally, I always look out for the player who ends up going for a surprisingly high price — the buy of the tournament that no one saw coming. For me, Delano Potgieter could be that player." 'He's been successful in SA20, has done well for MI Cape Town, and is a proven performer in domestic cricket. He covers multiple roles and adds great balance to a squad — the kind of player I'd sign straight away," Morris added. The deadline for player registrations, both local and overseas, is fast approaching, with the cut-off set for Monday, August 18, 2025, at 20:30 IST. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
