Cam Coleman included in AP's 'players to watch' list
Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman arrived at Auburn with plenty of hype surrounding him. However, it took most of the season for him to show off his full potential.
The former five-star wide receiver was targeted 28 times over the first eight games of his freshman season in 2024, catching 17 of those for 292 yards and two scores. Auburn's offense shifted gears over the final three games to give Coleman more pass-catching opportunities. The results? Coleman was targeted 25 times, catching 22 passes for 306 yards and six touchdowns.
The uptick in production caught the attention of Mark Long of the Associated Press, who has included Coleman in his picks for "SEC Players to Watch" ahead of the 2025 season.
WR Cam Coleman was arguably the SEC's best receiver in late November, notching a combined 23 catches for 306 yards and six touchdowns against Louisiana-Monroe, Texas A&M, and Alabama. Like Williams at Alabama, he was only a freshman.
Coleman is expected to lead a talented group of wide receivers in 2025. Fellow rising sophomores Malcolm Simmons and Perry Thompson return to the unit, while Auburn has added former Georgia Tech wide receiver Eric Singleton and former Wake Forest wide receiver Horatio Fields to stack the room with talent.

Auburn just pulled the most Alabama move ever by claiming USC's 2004 national championship
Auburn just pulled the most Alabama move ever by claiming USC's 2004 national championship originally appeared on The Sporting News College football is a unique sport. For years, the top two teams in the country didn't even have to play each other to determine the national champion. Instead, the title was left up to voters in separate polls like the AP and Coaches. What's worse, some programs would simply declare themselves national champions, regardless of record or circumstance. Auburn is resurrecting that idea, apparently. The Tigers are now claiming four additional national championships from the 1910, 1914, 1958 and 2004 seasons, per The 2004 claim stands out most. That year, USC and Oklahoma met in the BCS national championship game, where the Trojans won convincingly. Both entered undefeated — but so did Auburn, which was left to face Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl. The Tigers beat the Hokies and finished No. 2 in the AP poll. Since then, USC has been forced to vacate its national title due to NCAA sanctions, and Auburn now deems itself the rightful champion of that season. 'For too long, Auburn has chosen a humble approach to our program's storied history – choosing to recognize only Associated Press national championships. Starting this fall, we have made the decision to honor the accomplishments of our deserving student-athletes, coaches, and teams from Auburn's proud history,' Auburn athletic director John Cohen said. 'Our visible national championship recognitions now align with the well-established standard used by the NCAA's official record book and our peers across the nation.' There's an added layer of irony here involving Auburn's greatest rival, Alabama. For years, the Tigers mocked the Crimson Tide, who have claimed 18 national titles. Though a few of those come with eye rolls. 'The best part about this entire situation of Auburn adding titles is that fans have been joking with Alabama over the years about how many 'championships' the Tide has claimed over the past 100 years,' OutKick's Trey Wallace wrote. 'Oh, and the fact that Tommy Tuberville is now a national-championship-winning football coach. So, the potential Governor of the State of Alabama can now claim a title, which should make for a few interesting campaign commercials.' Only in college football. Only in the SEC. Only in Alabama.

5-Star Texas QB Commit Dia Bell Names SEC Powerhouse Still Hanging Around in Recruitment
5-Star Texas QB Commit Dia Bell Names SEC Powerhouse Still Hanging Around in Recruitment originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Longhorns have three five-star commits in their 2026 recruiting class via On3 Sports, but none may be more important than quarterback Dia Bell. Bell has been committed to the Longhorns since June of 2024 and attends American Heritage in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. While his pledge to Texas has remained firm, there has always been one SEC school that has been consistent throughout his recruitment. Per Rivals' Marcus Benjamin, Bell has been pursued by the LSU Tigers from the beginning. Bell even revealed that the Tigers have been attempting to get him to Baton Rouge for a visit, but he has no plans of doing so. 'It's really LSU," Bell said. "They've always been there. I've always had a great relationship with [offensive coordinator] Coach [Joe] Sloan. He's still chipping away, trying to get me to come out, but I have not made any plans to visit LSU at this point.' LSU would love to add a player of Bell's talents to its 2026 class, as the Tigers do not have a quarterback commit yet. Even more so considering he is the top quarterback in the class and No. 4 overall prospect in the Rivals Industry Rankings. With its quarterback from the 2026 class committed, Texas has shifted to the 2027 class. The Longhorns are recruiting Kavian Bryant, the No. 2 quarterback in the class. He set the record straight about what Texas school he thought was the best, going with the Longhorns. Texas is competing for Bryant with the Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Tech Red Raiders and SMU Mustangs. The first USA TODAY Coaches Poll was announced recently, inspiring others to release their own top 25 ahead of the 2025 season. Joel Klatt released his and had the Longhorns below the Penn State Nittany Lions. Texas opens the year with the Ohio State Buckeyes on August 30. Kickoff is at Noon ET on story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 10, 2025, where it first appeared.

Steelers insider predicts 'last resort' for Cam Heyward contract holdout
There's plenty to be excited about when looking at the revamped Steelers defense, but one huge red flag is Cam Heyward's potential holdout. On Friday, Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo offered his two cents on the situation — arguing that not only is Heyward unlikely to get a new contract, but Pittsburgh may only budge on restructuring his current deal as a "last resort." "Unfortunately for [Heyward], I think the Steelers are gonna wait a while to see if he comes back," Fittipaldo said via 93.7 The Fan's Pomp and Joe Show. "And then if he doesn't, they might try to sweeten it before the season starts. But they're not gonna renegotiate the ceiling, give him a new contract. The only solution, maybe advancing him a little bit of next year's roster bonus, which is probably a last resort for the Steelers." Almost two weeks ago, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Heyward wasn't practicing at training camp in full — holding out for a restructured deal, as his current position outside the top-20 DL salaries simply wasn't cutting it. If Heyward accepts advancing his 2026 roster bonus, the Steelers should jump at the opportunity — as taking care of one of the most talented and loyal defensive tackles while attempting to compete for a Super Bowl shouldn't even be up for debate.
