After losing to Naomi Osaka in the National Bank Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, the No. 13-ranked tennis player in the world took to her Instagram story to share screenshots of a handful of "shameful" messages from bettors filled with vitriol and anger over her failure at the hands of Osaka. Svitolina included messages that invoked death threats. Some mocked Svitolina's Ukrainian heritage amid the country's ongoing war with Russia. Others made racist comments about her husband, Gaël Monfils, a Black fellow professional tennis player. For obvious sensitivity reasons, I will not link out any of the images here. You can find them in Svitolina's story if you're so inclined.
To say the least, this is not OK. Not at all.
'To all the bettors: I'm a mom before I'm an athlete,' Svitolina wrote in her Instagram story. 'The way you talk to women – to mothers – is SHAMEFUL. If your moms saw your messages, they'd be disgusted.'
Friends, please remember what I'm about to say. Just because you lost a bet over a sports outcome does not mean you get to start harassing the person you think cost you money. Athletes are still, and stay with me here, human beings who deserve common decency like any of us. They're not props.
The only person who costs you money in these kinds of situations is you. The betting buck starts and stops with you. Always.

Two crewmen from a nearby craft dashed to the boat — a 54-foot SeaRay named Ripple — and called 911 before attempting to revive Nolan-O'Slatarra, the outlet said. Miss United States Lindsey Langston accuses Rep. Cory Mills of threatening to publish her nude pics, sex videos
WASHINGTON — The reigning Miss United States is accusing Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) of threatening to make public sex videos and nude pictures of her — and 'harm any men' she went out with in the future — after she ended their relationship earlier this year upon finding out he was seeing another woman. Lindsey Langston, who was crowned in October, reported the shocking sextortion attempt by Mills, 45, to the Columbia (Fla.) County Sheriff's Office July 14, according to a document obtained by The Post. 'Since February 20th of 2025, Cory has contacted Lindsey numerous times on numerous different accounts threatening to release nude images and videos of her, to include recorded videos of her and Cory engaging in sexual acts,' the report stated. 4 Miss United States pageant winner Lindsey Langston alleged the shocking sextortion attempt by Mills, 45, to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office in Florida on July 14. Anthony Sabatini, an attorney who represented Langston briefly and challenged Mills in a 2022 GOP primary, published at least three of the purported messages on X Wednesday, saying they were 'a criminal violation of Florida's sexual extortion statute 836.05—a 2nd degree felony.' 4 'The threats were made when Cory believed Lindsey to have other romantic partners in her life after the breakup,' the police report stated. But in February 2025, Sarah Raviani, an Iranian-American Republican activist, revealed her 'significant other for over a year' had 'grabbed her, shoved her, and pushed her out of the door' at the same location as Mills' Washington, DC, penthouse apartment, according to a police incident report reviewed by NBC Washington. Raviani — who was left with 'bruises on her arm which appeared fresh,' according to the report filed with the Metropolitan Police Department — declined to press charges and later issued a statement calling the incident 'a personal matter' and added that she was 'severely jet-lagged,' 'had been drinking' and the bruising was 'the result of medical conditions like eczema and activities from my recent trip to Dubai.' 'While the personal matter in question was emotionally charged, there was no physical altercation,' Raviani said. The incident report seen by NBC showed Raviani allowed cops to listen to a recorded phone call in which Mills 'instruct[ed] her to lie about the origin of her bruises' and that he had himself 'admitted [to officers] that the situation escalated from verbal to physical.' 4 Mills and Langston, a GOP state committeewoman, had been dating since November 2021 and sharing a house in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., since May 2024 after the congressman claimed he finalized divorce from his estranged wife. Raviani still has a picture of her and Mills posing together from mid-March posted on her Instagram account. Mills was dinged by his landlord last month at the luxury Washington, DC, apartment where the alleged February assault occurred for evading $85,000 in rent — but claimed it was the result of a faulty web payment portal. 4 The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which didn't immediately respond to requests for further records of the incident, is now taking over the investigation into Mills' threatening texts to Langston. Aaron Plessinger to miss final three rounds of Pro Motocross
Aaron Plessinger will skip the final three rounds of the Pro Motocross season as he continues to heal from an unspecified illness. He originally planned to skip only the Washougal National and then use the two-week hiatus to recover his health. 'Ongoing health issues had affected the 29-year-old prior to missing Round 8 at Washougal, however, despite initial plans to return for Ironman Raceway this Saturday, Plessinger has been recommended by his doctors to take additional time off the bike in order to focus on his recovery,' Red Bull KTM said in a press release. Plessinger's strong start to the season, with two podiums and another pair of top-five finishes in the first four rounds. He finished seventh at Southwick in Round 5 before the health issues developed. He was outside the top 10 at RedBud and then started Moto 1at Spring Creek before pulling off track with fatigue, Plessinger was unable to line up for the second moto there. 'Unfortunately, getting to the bottom of my health issues is taking longer than I had hoped,' Plessinger said. 'My Cortisol levels are still really low and not back to where I was hoping they would be by now, so under my doctor's advice, I'm going to sit out the remainder of the MX series. It's frustrating given I was riding the best I have ridden in my career this season, but going from leading motos to DNFs is not healthy for me and I don't think it's what the fans or my team deserve either. 'I'm getting older and it's just time for me to do some deep-diving into my health and get to the bottom of it. I'm not the first guy to go through it, so I have received a lot of positive feedback and support from my peers, and I will figure this out – it's just something that is taking a bit longer than I had hoped. I'm already missing seeing the fans and my team every weekend, so you better believe I will be back real soon.' Indications are that he will return for the SuperMotocross World Championship (SMX) playoffs, but that was not part of the announcement. Plessinger said he was 'shooting for Charlotte, so I'm kind of excited about that — I don't know, whatever,' Round 1 of the playoffs, in an Instagram post. In that Instagram post, Plessinger ended some internet speculation, saying he has not tested positive for Epstein-Barr Syndrome, had not over-trained, or submitted to an extreme and unhealthy diet. His symptoms began to display as he rode through what he believed to be a simple sinus infection. Plessinger did not state that he knew there was a direct correlation between the infection and his current symptoms. Plessinger's 250 divisional teammates Tom Vialle and Julien Beaumer also skipped Washougal, but they will return to action this week.
