Can YOU pass a UK citizenship test? Brits joke they 'better pack their bags' after struggling to answer the general knowledge questions

Daily Mail5 hours ago

Britons have revealed their struggle to answer general knowledge questions about the nation for a UK citizenship test, with some only getting one question correct.
Self-proclaimed ' TikTok quizmaster' Mahan Lankarani often creates various brainteasers and quiz videos.
He recently challenged his 1.6million followers to see if they could successfully complete a UK citizenship test, with the pass mark being 75 per cent.
It was inspired by the general knowledge test that immigrants must take to prove they know about the British way of life in order to move to the UK.
Some of the mock questions include 'who is the Head of State in the UK?' and 'what are the three colours of the Union Jack?'
But despite some of these questions being related to politics and everyday life in Britain, citizens struggled to pass, with some of them only getting one out of ten right.
Another question, which asked about the capital of Wales baffled one TikTok user, who wrote in the comments: 'I thought Wales was the capital of Wales.'
Another penned: 'Right I'm an English citizen and I only got the union jack colours right.' A third said: 'Nah bro I'm literally 100 per cent English and I didn't pass. How are people expected to know this!!!'
A fourth commented: '7 and 10 wrong, I better pack my bags,' while another chimed in and said: 'I'm fully British and I didn't know half of these.'
Another said: 'Bro I've lived in London for so many years and I didn't know most of these. I sent this to my friend (who has lived in the UK her whole life) and she didn't even know.'
Last year, it was reported that just 42 per cent of those who took a sample version of the Life In The UK quiz achieved the 75 per cent pass rate that would-be citizens need to hit.
Britons' pass rate falls well short of that achieved by migrants. In one recent year, 82 per cent of the 171,000 people who sat the test passed it.
The research by financial services company Remitly put 300 residents in each of seven nations to the test to see it they would pass their own citizenship test.
Brits had the sixth worst success rate with only Canada, with a pitiful seven per cent pass rate, faring worse.
Australia came top on 96 per cent followed by Germany on 95 per cent, the US on 93 per cent and France and Spain joint fourth on 61 per cent.
The test is below and answers will be at the end of the article
The average pass rate needed to pass the test in the UK, Australia, France and Canada is 75 per cent but it is just 60 per cent in the US, Spain and Germany.
Would-be British citizens have to answer 24 questions in 45 minutes, and pay £50 to take the test.
Applicants can also re-sit it as often as they wish, with one man taking it a whopping 118 times, spending £5,900 in total.
The Independent reported in 2022 that the man took 118 tests in a two year time period, despite there being guidance stating it should not be sat more than once every seven days.
This means if this guidance is adhered to, nobody should be able sit the test more than 52 times year.
The man took the tests across 2015 and 2016 and it is unclear whether he passed on the 118th attempt.
Conservative MP Kevin Foster told the outlet: 'This is a unique case and the vast majority of customers pass by their third attempt.'
'Whilst the test provider does not disclose which answers they got wrong if they fail they are advised which parts of the handbook they need to study in more depth to help them pass future tests.'

Elsewhere, food trucks have been spotted selling "loaded fries" for £14, toasted sandwiches for £10, and Mac and Cheese for up to £16. It comes as prices at the festival's on-site bars caused a stir among fans earlier in the week, with some dubbing the costs "absolutely disgusting". As photos of the on-site bar menu emerged on social media earlier this week, one fan commented on X: "Imagine paying over £300 for Glastonbury tickets to be told it's a further £32 for an £8 bottle of wine. 🤪 don't give festivals your coin it's a proper scam." Football's latest fad: Premier League stars rush to get boots customised ahead of the new season with Man United target Bryan Mbeumo, Declan Rice and Co opting for fancy designs

Footballers are often defined by individuality based on their playing styles, characters and lifestyle off the pitch. They can also be set apart by the most important piece of equipment to any professional - their boots. Specific football boots worn by distinctive players have elevated certain brands to worldwide fame. Wayne Rooney epitomised the Nike T90s, Neymar 's trickery with the Nike Mercurials and Sergio Aguero dazzled with the Puma evoSPEED. London-based artist Jordan Dawson has taken football boots individuality to the next level through customising boots for footballing stars such as Barcelona 's Lamine Yamal, Manchester United 's Marcus Rashford and Chelsea 's Enzo Fernandez. His iconic designs have included a South Korean inspired boot for Spurs captain Heung-min Son and a Naruto style pair of boots for former teammate Dele Alli. View this post on Instagram A post shared by JORDAN DAWSON (@ Dawson's first gained media attention when his debut client Declan Rice shared Dawson's work on social media during his time at West Ham. The publicity led to commissions for Rice's teammates, former players and eventually international football stars. Dawson began his artistic career studying at the Chelsea College of Arts where he worked on a hyperrealist drawing of Conor McGregor in 2017. The portrait won him Young Artist of the Year at the National Open Art Awards, proving to be turning point in his creative career. After graduating, Dawson proceeded to work at Niketown London where he began to hone his craft, wanting to create rather than sell sneakers. Dawson proceeded to pitch his ideas to Nike HQ which developed into creating digital designs for the 2018 Nike London Air Force One campaign, collaborating with the likes of Mason Mount and Phil Foden. The artist's work has even entered the video game domain as Dawson was invited to design the FIFA 20 Volta pitch alongside boxing heavyweight Anthony Joshua. Dawson also teamed up with Puma to customise limited-edition boots in aid of UNICEF's Soccer Aid for world 100m champion Usain Bolt and former AC Milan striker Andriy Shevchenko. His work extends to creating bespoke boots for world-class players such as Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe, Barcelona's Raphinha and Italy's No.1 Gianluigi Donnarumma. Players reach out to Dawson via Instagram or WhatsApp requesting specific personal designs, whilst he also attracts brand partnerships with the likes of Nike, Adidas and Puma. Dawson revealed that he is currently speaking to Sporting's Victor Gyokeres, Manchester United's Amad Diallo, former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino and Nigeria's Victor Osimhen. Dawson's portfolio extends outside of football which includes painting cars for Red Bull and custom basketballs for the NBA. Whether it is designing within football or other ventures, Dawson seeks to 'push the limits of creativity.' For Dawson, 'it's always about telling a story through the work.'

Call The Midwife star ties the knot with director fiancé and breaks wedding tradition as BBC star gushes 'we very much did it'

Call The Midwife actress Rebecca Gethings has tied the knot with her long-term partner, choosing a pink frock in a twist on tradition. The 47-year-who plays Sister Veronica in the hit BBC series, married her long-term partner, the animation director Tom Brass, with whom she has two children. Taking to Instagram, Rebecca confirmed her nuptials beneath a happy photo of the pair emerging from the Old Truman Brewery in London. She said: 'I do, he do, and we very much did' which prompted a slew of Call The Midwife cast members to send their best wishes. Renee Bailey who plays Joyce Highland, wrote: 'Wow.' And Natalie Quarry who stars as Rosalind Clifford, wrote: 'So gorgeous.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rebecca Gethings (@rebeccagethings) Since first joining the series in 2023, Rebecca's character Sister Veronica who works as a nun and health visitor, has become beloved by viewers for her plucky personality and forthright manner. Despite a shaky start, Sister Veronica proves her worth as she delivers babies, advocates for social care improvements and builds trust among her colleagues at Nonnatus House. But earlier this year the Canadian-born actress told how she'd experienced some 'spooky' encounters on set, as several co-stars are said to have witnessed some 'weird goings on' amid rumours that the Surrey-based building is haunted by an Edwardian lady. Rebecca told My Weekly magazine: 'I never go there on my own.' She went on to describe, 'lights going on and off and spooky male laughter outside the women's toilets.' She added: 'Just outside Dr Turner's office, our medic heard a bang when they were locking up for the night,' Gethings explained. 'She went running in and took a photo in the dark, and when you zoom in, there is the figure of an Edwardian lady holding what looks like a pig.' The period drama is filmed at Longcross Studios in Surrey, where a Victorian manor serves as Nonnatus House. But aside from some spookiness, Rebecca, who is also known for her roles in the BBC comedy The Thick of It and Ricky Gervais's Extras, also confessed that the Call the Midwife cast are like family. The cast and crew are currently filming the 15th series of the show which includes a two-part Christmas special set both in Hong Kong and Poplar, followed by eight hour-long episodes set in early 1971. It comes after it was reported that Call the Midwife will reportedly come to a close after its 15th series next year. The heartwarming show first aired in 2012 and has since put out 14 series, totalling to more than 100 episodes following the nurses and nuns in Poplar. A Christmas special for this year has already been announced, with the cast said to be currently at work filming for next year's series. However, according to The Daily Star, season 15 will be the show's last, as bosses want the popular drama to 'go out on a high'. A source told the publication: 'After years of drama and countless births, Call The Midwife is coming to an end. The team have decided it's time to draw the show to a close and bow out. 'This is the last we'll see of these much-loved characters. Storylines will tie up a lot of loose ends. It's a bittersweet time for the cast and crew. They're all sad it's coming to an end, but they want to make sure the show gets the ending it deserves.' However, the insider teased that there could be a special return episode one day in the future, saying: 'The writers are also open to the idea of reviving Call The Midwife for a special one day in the future. It's a case of never say never.'
