Nagaland Governor La Ganesan dies in Chennai at 80
The Nagaland Governor was undergoing treatment when he passed away. He was 80 at the time of his death.
Ganesan was undergoing treatment at the ICU of the hospital for the past few days and he died on Friday night, the Kohima Raj Bhavan PRO said. The time of the death of La Ganesan was recorded at 6:23 pm.
According to a report by PTI, La ganesan collapsed at his home in Chennai on August 8 and had sustained injuries in the head due to the fall.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital, where doctors admitted him to the ICU to undergo intensive monitoring and treatment.
According to a report by The New Indian Express, Ganesan was rushed from his T Nagar residence in an unconscious state and underwent surgery.
The mortal remains of the leader will be placed at his home in T Nagar for the political leaders and others to pay their last respects.
Ganesan was appointed the 21st governor of Nagaland on February 12, 2023 and he assumed office on February 20 that year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled La Ganesan's death and remembered him as a 'devout nationalist.'
'Pained by the passing of Nagaland Governor Thiru La. Ganesan Ji. He will be remembered as a devout nationalist, who dedicated his life to service and nation-building. He worked hard to expand the BJP across Tamil Nadu. He was deeply passionate about Tamil culture too. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. Om Shanti,' he wrote in a post on X.
Born in Tanjore in 1945, La Ganesan started to work at the Revenue Department, as Revenue Settlement Inspector, after completing his Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), after his father passed away.
He was instrumental in politics from a young age having joined the RSS, and played a key role during the protests against the 1975 Emergency.
Before Nagaland, La Ganesan served as the Governor of Manipur from August 2021 to February 2023. He had also been given Additional Charge as Governor of West Bengal from July 2022 to November 2022.

"In 2020, under the Seven Resolves-2 initiative, our government fulfilled the target of providing government jobs and employment to 50 lakh youths. Now, our government has set a target to provide jobs and employment to 1 crore youths in the next 5 years. The objective of this initiative by the state government is to promote industries in Bihar, ensure that the youth of Bihar become skilled and self-reliant, have access to maximum employment opportunities, and secure their future," the CM said.

Indian tricolour hoisted atop Seattle's iconic Space Needle in historic first
New York/Seattle, Aug 16 (PTI) The Indian tricolour was hoisted at Seattle's iconic 605-feet-tall Space Needle on India's 79th Independence Day, the first time that a foreign nation's flag was raised at the popular American destination. Consul General of India in Seattle Prakash Gupta along with Mayor of Seattle Bruce Harrell and other select dignitaries from the Seattle city leadership, joined the historic and landmark occasion. 'No greater honour than this ! Raising the Tiranga on top of Seattle skyline at Space Needle," Gupta said in a post on X, along with a video of the tricolour flying high atop the iconic Seattle monument with sprawling views of the city below. Calling the commemoration a 'historic first in Seattle", the Consulate General of India in Seattle said the celebration underscored the contributions of the Indian-American diaspora in shaping the city's journey as a tech hub in the US Pacific Northwest. Later, a community reception was hosted by the Consulate at the scenic Kerry Park, with India's flag on top of the Space Needle in the backdrop. A large number of Indian-American community members turned up to witness the historic sight, the Consulate said in a press release. The reception was attended by several dignitaries including US Congressman Adam Smith, Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court Debra Stephens, Seattle Port Commissioner Sam Cho and Superintendent/Director of Seattle Parks and Recreation AP Diaz. Addressing the gathering, Smith welcomed the historic celebration, noting that the Indian tricolour's hoisting atop the Space Needle is a tribute to the region's diversity and the strong bonds between India and the Pacific Northwest. Nagaland Governor La Ganesan to be cremated in Chennai today
Chennai: The mortal remains of Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan, who passed away on Independence Day, will be cremated in Chennai on Saturday. His body, kept at his residence in T. Nagar for the public to pay homage, will be laid to rest this afternoon with full respect. Ganesan, 80, died at 6.23 p.m. on Friday while undergoing treatment in a Chennai hospital. A veteran leader with a long association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), he was known for his accessibility to journalists and his willingness to provide clear on-record statements throughout his career. Born on February 16, 1945, in Thanjavur, Ganesan hailed from an orthodox Brahmin family with deep RSS roots. He lost his father at the age of nine and began his career as a Revenue Settlement Inspector in government service. Deeply committed to the nationalist movement, he resigned after nine years to become an RSS pracharak. During the Emergency in 1975, he played a crucial role as chief organiser of the RSS in Tamil Nadu, leading efforts to restore democracy. He was also active in addressing sensitive issues such as religious conversions in Meenakshipuram, communal unrest in Mandaikkadu, and caste-related tensions in Ramanathapuram and Puliangudi. In 1991, he joined the BJP to strengthen its base in Tamil Nadu. Rising steadily through the ranks, he served as organising secretary, national secretary, all-India vice-president, and state president. He represented Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha and was part of the BJP National Executive. A multifaceted personality, he edited the party's Tamil mouthpiece Ore Naadu and launched Pottramarai, a magazine to recognise Tamil scholars, writers, musicians, and artists. Fluent in multiple languages, he was known for his oratory and his ability to compose patriotic and national-integration-themed lyrics. In August 2021, he was appointed Governor of Manipur, later holding additional charge of West Bengal before being posted to Nagaland in February 2023. Condolences poured in from across the political spectrum. President Droupadi Murmu said Ganesan worked for the welfare of the people, and his contribution to Tamil Nadu and the country would be remembered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was pained by the passing of a devout nationalist who dedicated his life to service and expanding the BJP in Tamil Nadu, while also being deeply passionate about Tamil culture. Governor RN Ravi recalled Ganesan's lifelong selfless service with humility, and Chief Minister M.K.
