Juventus coach Igor Tudor complains of tough Florida weather conditions during loss to Real Madrid

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Juventus coach Igor Tudor complained about the tough weather conditions in South Florida following the team's elimination from the Club World Cup with a 1-0 loss Tuesday to Real Madrid in the round of 16.
The gametime temperature for the 3 p.m. start was 86 degrees (30 Celsius) with 70% humidity at Hard Rock Stadium, site of seven World Cup matches next year. The humidity made it feel like 90 degrees (32 Celsius).
'We played under really difficult conditions. The players were really fatigued,' Tudor said.
Tudor said 10 players asked during the game to be replaced, but he did not identify them by name.
After a 1-hour, 53-minute delay during a round of 16 win over Benfica on Saturday at Charlotte, North Carolina, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca had said the U.S. is not the right host country for the Club World Cup.
Juventus and Inter Milan both were eliminated in the round of 16, leaving no Italian clubs in the quarterfinals.
'It's a lot of factors that weighed in," Tudor said. 'It's the end of the season. They had a lot of stress on them, that takes away energy as well and then the heat is another thing that makes things more difficult.'
Juve's loss to Real is one of the least surprising results of the round of 16, but the heat wave in the United States during this past month has been of concern to players and their unions.
Juventus is off until an Aug. 10 friendly at Borussia Dortmund on Aug 10, then opens the Serie A season against Parma at home on the weekend of Aug. 24-25.

ICE fears deter some from Mexico's Gold Cup win at Levi's: ‘La Raza is a little more tranquil'

Gustavo Kamo was born and raised in Mexico. He moved to the U.S. when he was 15, became a naturalized American citizen, and built his own business. Ahead of the CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinal between Mexico and Honduras, he looked forward to spending the evening at Levi's Stadium with friends and colleagues. Kamo said he invited upwards of 30 people who declined to accompany him Wednesday, for fear that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents would show up. 'They can't risk it,' Kamo told the Chronicle. 'I mean, anyone who's having like a green card or a temporary permit, a work permit, because they're not respecting any of that.' The perceived threat, though ultimately unfulfilled, appeared to temper what CONCACAF expected to be a sellout in Santa Clara on Wednesday — the final preview before a World Cup that will feature the Bay Area as one host of the host destinations. The Rapid Response Network for Santa Clara County released a statement on Instagram about an hour and a half before the match began, citing confirmation via Santa Clara Mayor Lisa M. Gillmor, that Department of Homeland Security officers were present at Levi's 'for security purposes' as 'is standard protocol for large-scale international events.' 'Importantly, they are not conducting immigration enforcement,' said the statement from the volunteer group whose mission is to protect the community against ICE actions. Mexico, the defending Gold Cup champions, won 1-0 at Levi's, which has a 68,500-seating capacity that can expand to more than 75,000 for select events. CONCACAF announced a crowd of 70,975 but did not clarify whether that number represented tickets sold or turnstiles. 'I do think 'La Raza' is a little more tranquil, they're a little more subdued, because if this wasn't going on right now with ICE and everything, it would be like 10 times rowdier right now,' said Leo Gonzalez, a Mexican American and U.S. Air Force veteran, and a friend of Kamo. Gonzalez served actively for about four years and was in the reserves for another four. People often asked him how he could support the Mexico men's national team, as a member of the U.S. military. He reminded them he also cheered the U.S. men's national team, 'unless they played Mexico.' He grew up watching Mexico in the World Cup with his brother and father, set to turn 80 years old in 2026. He plans to get tickets for what'll be his first World Cup experience in-person, and his dad's first since the 1980s. The U.S. and Mexico will play Sunday in the Gold Cup finals. Without hesitation, Gonzalez pledged his support for Mexico, then asked Kamo if there was a world in which he would ever consider backing the USMNT. 'It'd have to be a major change, dude, I just can't do it right now,' Kamo said. 'I'm a U.S. citizen, dude, I'm walking with (the thought), 'OK, what do I say if I get stopped? '' Gonzalez remembered vividly his reaction when rumors surfaced that ICE could have a presence at Levi's: 'They can f— right off.' Though the crowd at Levi's appeared short of a true sellout, it grew considerably and got close as the night progressed. Mexico fans especially made their presence felt after Raúl Jimenez scored in the 50th minute to give Mexico a 1-0 lead. By the 70th minute, the lower bowl of Levi's coordinated a wave, Mexico and Honduras fans alike, during a stoppage in play that served as an enduring moment of unity. For Kamo, the party started almost immediately after he parked. 'When I was coming out, I was getting beers from everybody left and right,' he said. 'Dude, I was hungry, starving when I parked. When I got to the gate, I was full, I was happy. 'I just don't want to see this country be so divided.'

McCloskey comfortable being Ireland's elder statesman

McCloskey made his Ireland debut in 2016 and played at the 2023 World Cup [Getty Images] When Stuart McCloskey last represented Ireland in Georgia, 10 years ago, his world looked a lot different. Fresh off winning Ulster's young player of the year award at the end of his first full season in senior rugby, he travelled with the Emerging Ireland squad for the now-defunct Tbilisi Cup in 2015. Advertisement Then just 22, McCloskey admits he was "pretty naive". Now, with nearly a decade of Test experience and over 200 Ulster caps under his belt, he has a "few more grey hairs" and knows "what I'm about these days". This much is true. Even within the controlled environment of a news conference, McCloskey is able to show that he is comfortable in his own skin. Finlay Bealham's British and Irish Lions call-up means he is the elder statesmen of interim head coach Paul O'Connell's Ireland squad. He jokes that Bealham "absolutely did me in" and admits O'Connell "gets a dig in most days about how old I am", but he seems happy being the only squad member to have celebrated his 30th birthday. Advertisement He also likes to tell Ulster team-mates Jacob Stockdale and Nick Timoney he will outlast them. "I'm happy to be the calm head," says McCloskey, who will turn 33 in August. "I feel like that's normally what I am in these teams no matter who's playing around me, but there's plenty of guys there like Craig [Casey] and Sam [Prendergast] who've run the backline very well over the last few weeks in here. "Sam's come in in the Six Nations and done very well so I'll just play off them, give them the space and hopefully they run in a few tries for us. During the last Lions tour in 2021, McCloskey furthered his case for a spot in the Ireland starting line-up with tries in wins over Japan and the United States. Advertisement Through no fault of his own, it hasn't quite panned out that way, but considering the constant presence of Bundee Aki, Robbie Henshaw and Garry Ringrose, 19 caps represents a solid return to this point for a player who was not offered a place in Ulster's academy after leaving Bangor Grammar. "I don't think I'm doing a lot wrong," he says. "I think when I've played I've went well, it's just there's four very good centres in the lads, two of them are away [Aki and Ringrose] and you could argue Robbie would've been away as well if he wasn't injured, so I don't think I'm too far off it. "What can I do better? Keep improving on a few things, probably a bit more physicality in defence, I think I've got most things in attack. Advertisement "[I'll try to] add a few more strings to my bow, whether that's breakdown or poach threat, but overall I don't think there's a lot in it. A few decisions go my way, I'm sitting here with a few more caps." Ulster's 19-17 win over Munster in 2014 was McCloskey's second start for the province [Getty Images] McCloskey, whose last Ireland start came against Italy in February 2024, is expected to partner Jamie Osborne in the midfield in Saturday's Test against Georgia. Osborne, 23, is known as one of Ireland's most versatile players. He can play at either inside or outside centre and started at full-back and right wing against Wales and France in this year's Six Nations. Advertisement "Jamie's been great. He's the kind of guy that slips into any position fairly well," said McCloskey. "You can play him anywhere over the backline and he'll do a great job. We've had a good combination going there the last couple of days. "He's physical, he's got all the skills and everything you'd want in a rugby player. I'm sure he'll go on and get a lot more caps under his belt over the next 10 years." As for himself, McCloskey wants to use the Georgia and Portugal games to stake his claim ahead of a glamorous autumn programme that includes Ireland's rematch against the All Blacks in Chicago and a home Test against double world champions South Africa. Advertisement That means impressing O'Connell, who he played against in the old Pro12 days. "Ulster sent down the biggest B team of all time because it was a dead rubber at the end of the season and Munster had their best team out," McCloskey recalls of Ulster's 19-17 win at Thomond Park in May 2014. "I remember it very well. Michael Heaney scored a try, they were trying to get to second and we were fourth, couldn't go up or down, it was back in the Pro12 days and we got the win, I think it was my fourth cap." Perhaps he mentions it to O'Connell when the towering Irish icon brings us McCloskey's age? "No, but I like to think he knows it. I'm trying to get picked this week!"

PSG vs Bayern Munich: Club World Cup prediction, kick-off time, team news, TV, live stream, h2h, odds

PSG and Bayern will lock horns in a heavyweight quarter-final clash to determine who will reach the last four of the Club World Cup. PSG come off the back of a 4-0 demolition of Lionel Messi's Inter Miami in the round of 16. Advertisement The French giants have now found the back of the net four times on two separate occasions at this year's tournament, having thrashed Atletico Madrid 4-0 in their opening game. Vincent Kompany's Bayern find themselves in the last eight after beating an impressive Flamengo side 4-2. Harry Kane netted a brace to help send the Bavarians through, and has three goals and one assist in four games in this Club World Cup campaign. Date, kick-off time and venue PSG vs Bayern is scheduled for a 5pm BST kick-off, Saturday, July 5, 2025. The match will take place at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Where to watch PSG vs Bayern Live stream: Viewers can watch the action live online via the DAZN website, which is free with a registration. Coverage will begin from 4pm BST ahead of an 5pm kickoff. Live blog: Follow all the action right here with Standard Sport's live blog! PSG vs Bayern team news When everyone is fit, PSG, probably have the most predictable starting XI in the competition, yet one position could be up for grabs in this quarter-final bout. After coming off the bench in PSG's 4-0 win last time out, Ousmane Dembele could be in contention to make a return to the starting line-up. Advertisement The most likely casualty of Dembele's inclusion would be Bradley Barcola, who played on the right-hand side against Inter Miami, while Desire Doue played more centrally. Elsewhere, Kingsley Coman is a doubt for the German giants after he hobbled off against Flamengo. This means Serge Gnabry, Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala will likely start behind Harry Kane. Leroy Sane has played his final game for the club before joining Galatasaray. PSG vs Bayern prediction It is difficult to look past a PSG victory in this clash of the European heavyweights. The European champions have the most settled team at the tournament, and despite the blip against Botafogo, have sailed seamlessly into the last eight. Advertisement Bayern will by no means concede defeat easily and can boast of an abundance of attacking riches themselves, but PSG's attacking firepower should prove too much for Kompany's side. PSG to win, 2-1 Head to head (h2h) history and results PSG and Bayern recently met in the Champions League, when Luis Enrique's side lost 1-0 in the league phase as Dembele was sent off.
