Nick Cave admit his view of artificial intelligence as an artistic tool has begun to shift

Yahooa day ago
Nick Cave has admitted his view of artificial intelligence as an artistic tool has begun to shift.
The 66-year-old singer-songwriter and frontman of The Bad Seeds has long been a vocal critic of artificial intelligence. He previously described the technology as 'unbelievably disturbing' and warned of a 'humiliating effect' on the creative industries.
But he confessed his view has changed after seeing a new AI-powered video made to mark the 40th anniversary of his song Tupelo.
Writing on The Red Hand Files platform , he said: 'As I watched Andrew's surreal little film, I felt my view of AI as an artistic device soften.
'To some extent, my mind was changed.'
The video he was referring to was created by 56-year-old filmmaker Andrew Dominik, and used AI to animate still archival images.
Tupelo is a 1985 single he has performed 'at nearly every Bad Seeds concert since it was first written'. The track depicts the mythic birth of Elvis Presley during a storm in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Nick added on The Red Hand Files he was initially sceptical when he learned AI had been used to create the video that has gone with it.
Filmmaker Andrew has previously collaborated with Nick on the 2016 documentary One More Time With Feeling and the 2022 film This Much I Know to Be True.
Nick added in his online post he found the video 'an extraordinarily profound interpretation of the song – a soulful, moving, and entirely original retelling of Tupelo, rich in mythos and a touching tribute to the great Elvis Presley, as well as to the song itself'.
He also said the AI-animated images of Elvis 'had an uncanny quality, as if he had been raised from the dead, and the crucifixion-resurrection images at the end were both shocking and deeply affecting'.
In January 2023, Nick publicly condemned ChatGPT, telling fans on his blog The Red Hand Files it should 'f*** off and leave songwriting alone'.
He added at the time: 'I feel sad about it, disappointed that there are smart people out there that actually think the artistic act is so mundane that it can be replicated by a machine.'
Nick also received multiple fan submissions of ChatGPT-generated lyrics written 'in the style of Nick Cave' were ones he viewed as 'bulls***' and 'a grotesque mockery of what it is to be human'.

We're Finally Getting a 'Zootopia' Sequel After Nearly a Decade

The original cast is returning for 'Zootopia 2'—and there will be some intriguing new characters introduced to audiences, as well. When it was first released nearly a decade ago, Zooptopia was an instant success. The film follows a rabbit named Judy Hopps and a fox named Nick Wilde—natural enemies who live in a city (the titular Zootopia) where predators and prey live together in peace and equality. The pair form an unlikely team to solve mysterious disappearances, revealing a sinister plot to unravel the harmonious relationship between the city's animal residents. Emotionally resonant moments (listen, I openly admit the ending made me cry) paired with exciting action sequences that involve, at different points, a giant replica of a donut, a crime boss named Mr. Big, who is actually a shrew, and a pack of wolves who literally cannot stop howling, gave the movie its heart and soul. But fans of the film might have given up hope for a sequel. Well, the wait is finally over: Today, Disney released the trailer for Zootopia 2—and it looks like we're about to explore a side of the city that we've never seen before. What's the Premise of Zootopia 2? From the looks of the trailer, Judy and Nick have some lingering partnership issues from the first movie. So, the two are sent to the Partners in Crisis program, led by Dr. Fuzzby, voiced by Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson, Chief Bogo (Idris Elba) gives them one last chance to set things right before he gives them a new mission of tracking down a snake named Gary De'Snake (Ke Huy Quan). There's just one problem: Snakes never venture into Zootopia, choosing to live outside the idyllic city. Nick and Judy must travel to the outskirts of their world, visiting the territory of Zootopia's aquatic residents as well as what looks like a remote mountain range, in order to find Gary and repair their friendship. Is the Original Cast Returning for the Zootopia Sequel? The movie is staying true to its roots, with Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin returning as Nick and Judy, respectively. Idris Elba is also returning as Chief Bogo, who's Judy and Nick's boss on the police force. More memorable returning characters include Clawhauser, a fellow police officer and cheetah who loves to snack, and Flash, the sloth who works at the Department of Mammal Vehicles, also seem to be returning to the new movie. By the looks of the trailer, the new character Gary De'Snake joining the fray should be an intriguing addition. When Can Families Watch Zootopia 2? The movie is set to be released only in theatres on November 26, 2025, making it the perfect way to kick off the holiday season with a trip to the movies the whole family will enjoy. Serena Page, Leah Kateb, and More ‘Love Island USA' Alums Weigh In on JaNa and Kenny's Split

They say you shouldn't take sides when your friends break if your friends are JaNa Craig and Kenny Rodriguez, this rule definitely does not apply. In the wake of JaNa and Kenny's breakup, several Love Island USA alums—including JaNa's besties and fellow season 6 stars Serena Page and Leah Kateb—have reacted to the news of the split on Instagram. JaNa and Kenny were one of the strongest couples to come out of Love Island USA season 6, and the two even star on Peacock's Beyond the Villa. Earlier this week, the two abruptly split and fellow Love Island USA alums began unfollowing Kenny, raising eyebrows and grabbing the attention of fans everywhere. To recap: JaNa confirmed the split in an Instagram story shared Tuesday, July 29, and while she didn't give a reason for the breakup, she did tell fans that it was 'terrible, disgusting, and disappointing.' Meanwhile, Kenny put out a statement of his own on Instagram, writing in part, 'Sometimes, despite how deeply you care for someone, you come to the hard truth that the relationship was not something that could last long-term.' You'll be shocked to learn that these vague platitudes did not help his case. In fact, Kenny's response prompted Charmane Smith (a close friend of JaNa's) to post on her page, seemingly implying that JaNa had found incriminating information on Kenny's phone with messages like, 'I don't like black women, I thought I would get more money from this, I'm faking this relationship, going on the show would be for clout, I can't wait to be done w this so I can fuck hella b*tches.' Charmane's Instagram has since been made private, but JaNa's other close friends—including Love Island USA season 6 alums Leah, Serena, Liv Walker, and Kaylor Martin—followed, calling Kenny out and publicly declaring themselves #TeamJaNa. Serena Page Comments on JaNa and Kenny's Split Serena (aka one of JaNa's best friends and member of the PPGs) kept things civil, asking fans to remember that 'it may just be tea for y'all but that's not the case for us.' That being said, she made it clear on which side she stands, writing, 'Y'all already know how I'm coming behind JaNa, and TRUST so does he.' Leah Kateb Calls Kenny 'Racist' on Instagram Leah Kateb—the third Power Puff Girl in season 6's Love Island USA trio—also weighed in on Instagram. Leah reposted JaNa's response to Kenny, in which she called her ex a 'manipulative liar,' and added her own two cents. '@kennyrodriguez Put a sock in it ChatGPT headass,' she wrote. 'Tell the truth for once! Racist, clout/money hungry and a scammer since Day 1!!!!!' She also sent a message of support to JaNa, telling fans not to worry, 'Our Nay is blessed and highly favored.' Leah followed up a bit later, sharing what appears to be a text from her to an unnamed recipient, saying, 'This is the month of clout chasers I guess??' On her Story, she annotated the text, crossing out 'chasers' and writing 'demons shall I say.' She also declared the events of the week, 'Mercury retrograde taking out the trash.' Liv Walker Exposes Kenny's 'Chat GPT' Statement Liv also criticized Kenny's statement, sharing it on her Instagram Stories. 'Your pathetic excuse for a story is laughable. I can't even put into words how good of a person Naynay is and how hard it is [to] watch her go through something like this,' she wrote. '@kennyrodriguez I hope this gives you the clout you always wanted you fucking loser.' Liv was so unimpressed by Kenny's statement that she decided to go straight to the source, asking Chat GPT if it thought AI had written Kenny's response. The answer, per her Instagram: 'Yes.' Kaylor Martin Calls Kenny 'A Poor Excuse of a Man' And of course, Kaylor also weighed in, sharing a screenshot of JaNa's response to Kenny and adding, '@kennyrodriguez is a poor excuse of a man. You lost the most beautiful genuine soul. Shame on you.' Kendall Washington Supports JaNa on Instagram Most of the Love Island USA season 6 men have yet to comment publicly, though almost all of them have unfollowed Kenny on Instagram. Kendall, however, showed his support for JaNa on Instagram, sharing a video of the two dancing together with the message, 'Love you forever Nay Nay.'
