Lakers to sign Christian Koloko, Chris Manon to two-way contracts
During NBA summer league play, they got a look at some of their young players. Guard Bronny James, after a slow start, put forth some promising play on both ends of the court, and forward Darius Bazley played some high-energy basketball until he suffered a leg injury in the team's penultimate game.
On Monday, the Lakers decided to sign center Christian Koloko and wing Chris Manon to two-way contracts. Koloko was with them during summer league play, while Manon suited up for the Golden State Warriors.
Koloko was a second-round draft pick in 2022 after three seasons at the University of Arizona. He missed all of the 2022-23 season due to a blood clot issue, and in 37 games with the Lakers this past season, he averaged 2.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.4 blocks in 9.2 minutes a game. While in the G League, he put up 14.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per contest.
He had originally signed with L.A. on a two-way contract last summer.
Manon, who went undrafted in last month's NBA draft, averaged 11.0 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 blocks and 1.4 steals in 18.1 minutes a game during the Las Vegas summer league. He isn't a 3-point shooting threat, but at 6-foot-5 and 215 pounds, he hustles and plays hard on the defensive end and has a strong motor.
On Sunday, the Lakers waived guard Jordan Goodwin, whom they had called up from the G League at midseason. Perhaps Manon will essentially be Goodwin's replacement as far as a high-motor wing they will look to develop.

After all, he's one of the highest-rated players in the video game. "It means the world. A game I grew up playing since I was young and can remember," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "To know I'm the cover of the game is a surreal feeling. A dream come true." Gilgeous-Alexander is an unapologetic 2K head. He always talks to Ronnie 2K about the game and gives him feedback. After hoping to land on cover art, the 27-year-old made it undeniable with such a historic season. "I was ecstatic. I was through the moon," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "Tried to hold back some tears." NBA 2K26 will release on Sept. 5. The annual game serves as a reminder to get basketball back in the mainstream after the offseason is about over. The Thunder and Gilgeous-Alexander will enter the 2025-26 season as a favorite to repeat as champions.

"This does leave a few interesting free agents still, not even including eventual buyout candidates like Chicago's Nikola Vucevic," Irwin wrote. "As they did with Smart, the Lakers are closely monitoring that situation." Vucevic would be a very intriguing addition for Los Angeles if he is bought out by the Bulls. He would provide excellent depth behind Ayton and would bring both scoring and rebounding to the second unit. During the 2024-25 NBA season in Chicago, Vucevic played in 73 games ande made 72 starts. He averaged 18.5 points per game to go along with 10.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists, while also shooting 53 percent from the floor and 40.2 percent from the three-point line. His ability to stretch the floor from the center position would bring a valuable skill-set to the Lakers. Ayton is not a capable three-point shooter. Vucevic's presence would give JJ Redick more lineup options to match up with opponents. At 34 years old, Vucevic is nearing the end of his career. Having an opportunity to play for the Lakers alongside James and Doncic would have to be intriguing to him. All of this will depend on whether or not the Bulls buy him out. That remains to be seen, but it's a situation worth keeping a close eye on and Los Angeles is clearly doing so.
