Washington-based firm appoints Ajay Sooklal to lead Africa/South Asia division

In a significant move aimed at strengthening its foothold in Africa and South Asia, Global Political Solutions™ LLC (GPS), a Washington-based legal, lobbying, and business advisory firm, appointed Ajay Sooklal to head its Africa/South Asia division.
Sooklal, whose younger brother is Professor Anil Sooklal, the High Commissioner of South Africa in India, has more than 40 years of legal and international business development experience.
Aaron T Manaigo, Managing Partner of GPS, said: 'I have known Ajay Sooklal for nearly 25 years. We have successfully worked on several business and political projects together. We are delighted and honoured to have Ajay join us at GPS. He brings a world of talent and experience to our team.'
Sooklal served as a legal advisor to Nelson Mandela and Jacob Zuma. He also advised the ANC and provided insights to various ministries, justice, public works, and tourism.

With Sooklal at the helm of its Africa/South Asia division, GPS aims to leverage opportunities for engagement with private sector companies and government entities across the continent, utilising South Africa as the base for operations.
'There is no shortage of opportunities for business development, foreign direct investment, market entry, and other professional services needed to bring together in a more robust way the American/African consumer and production markets respectively… the time is now,' said Sooklal.
The establishment of an official working presence in South Africa marks the first phase of GPS's expansion strategy. Future plans include setting up similar bases in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia.
'Africa, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia have been our target markets for some time. With the current dismantling of USAID, the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), etc, another key area we will focus on is assisting various governments navigate the ever-changing US foreign appropriations process on Capitol Hill,' Manaigo elaborated, indicating a shift in strategic focus amidst evolving geopolitical landscapes.

Not only will the two battery-powered midsize SUVs be direct competitors when they hit the market, but both will usher in new design and engineering eras for their respective carmakers. The Mercedes GLC electric debuts a brand new design language for the firm's electric vehicles, with the softer lines of its current EQ models having faced criticism for their lack of imagination and identity. To whet our appetites, Mercedes released a teaser image this week, showing the new upright, and more traditional-looking, 'grille' that will feature on its electric GLC. Next Stay Close ✕ As EVs do not require a grille for cooling, the GLC's centrepiece is purely aesthetic and features a chrome frame surrounding a smoked-glass-effect lattice structure and integrated contour lighting. An illuminated version will also be offered, featuring 942 backlit dots and animation sequences. The battery-powered GLC with EQ Technology replaces the EQC SUV, with Mercedes moving to a more integrated naming convention for its models. While it shares a name with its combustion-engined GLC sibling, the electric model will feature a completely different platform, in the form of Merc's upcoming MB-EA dedicated electric vehicle architecture. Technical details are still under wraps, but CarExpert reports that the new electric GLC is likely to offer a WLTP driving range of more than 800km, while the most powerful version could produce over 500kW. BMW EV revolution loading Either way, the GLC is going to face some stiff competition from its Bavarian rival, with BMW stating that the new iX3 will be one of the most significant model introductions in the company's entire history. BMW says the iX3 50 xDrive flagship will boast a WLTP range of up to 800km, and thanks to a 400kW maximum charging capability, owners will be able to add around 350km of range in just 10 minutes at a fast-charging station. Furthermore, its Gen6 powertrain technology and BMW Dynamic Performance Control software stack aim to raise the dynamic potential of electric powertrains to a new level. The iX3 also debuts the new BMW Panoramic iDrive cockpit interface, which displays all relevant driving information in the driver's ideal line of sight. 'With the all-new #BMW iX3, we bring our revolutionary technologies into series production for the first time, and we can hardly wait to see it in action on the road. Starlink rival Eutelsat beats estimates on Ukraine boost, government demand
French satellite operator Eutelsat reported better than expected annual earnings on Tuesday, driven by growing interest in its satellite internet services from government and corporate customers. Eutelsat gained the spotlight this year as European governments sought home-grown solutions for satellite services, aiming to reduce their reliance on US providers such as Elon Musk's Starlink. Revenues from video, connectivity and government services reached €1.23bn (R25.59bn) in the year ended June 30, up 0.8% from a year earlier. Financial analysts had expected the revenues to total €1.21bn (R25.18bn), according to a consensus poll provided by Eutelsat. The Paris-based group hopes to offset declining income from its video business by gaining a foothold in the satellite internet market, where Starlink dominates. However, CEO Jean-François Fallacher told reporters the company 'won't compete head-to-head with Starlink or Amazon's Kuiper in consumer markets', focusing instead on segments that make it competitive.

This comes after Mkhize was reported to have missed a deadline to pay a compensation fee to one of the club's former directors. Now, South African businessman Alfred 'Ally' Kgomongwe has confirmed that he has transferred ownership of the club to Mkhize. 'I can tell you now that MaMkhize will be in charge of Mbabane Highlanders from this season,' Kgomongwe said, as quoted by FARPost. I am the rightful owner, and I have signed the team over to MaMkhize, and she will now agree with the patrons and elders of the club on how long she will run it.' The club will now begin the Eswatini Premiership under their new name – Mbabane Highlanders FC – after being rebranded in line with MaMkhize's old club, Royal AM. The 'AM' is in honour of her son Andile Mpisane, who served as chairman and player of the KZN club. MaMkhize's foray into Eswatini football comes after Royal AM were kicked out of the PSL due to a number of financial problems. The club was put up for sale by SARS in order to recoup some of the R40 million she owed in taxes. The move also marks a fresh chapter for Mbabane Highlanders, who have endured years of off-field instability. With Mkhize now officially at the helm, supporters will be hoping for long-term investment, better player recruitment, and a push for domestic dominance. The club is one of Eswatini's most storied sides, but recent seasons have been overshadowed by boardroom wrangles and inconsistent performances.
