Prayagraj: In anticipation of the massive turnout expected for the 2031 Kumbh Mela,
Indian Railways
is fast-tracking the development of Chheoki Railway Station into a major terminal. A comprehensive proposal has already been submitted to the Railway Board for approval.
According to Himanshu Shukla, senior divisional commercial manager of Prayagraj Division of North Central Railway (NCR), "A detailed proposal has been submitted for Chheoki's development into a terminal, with a clear goal to complete the project before the 2031 Kumbh."
The 2025 Maha Kumbh witnessed an overwhelming rush at Chheoki, offering critical lessons in crowd and traffic management. In response, the Railways has finalised a blueprint to transform Chheoki into a full-fledged terminal for Prayagraj.
As part of the upgrade, the station will have 10 platforms, all equipped with modern electronic display boards. The station complex will include a large waiting area, expanded foot overbridges (FOBs), new passenger sheds, retiring rooms and a well-equipped food plaza to improve the passenger experience.
Once designated as a terminal, Chheoki Station will become the starting point for major trains headed towards Mumbai.

This move is expected to significantly benefit thousands of daily passengers commuting between Prayagraj and Mumbai by decongesting Prayagraj Junction and streamlining train operations.
Currently, Chheoki has six platforms, but expansion work is in progress to increase this number to eight. Two new platforms were already approved, and a proposal for two more was submitted. Alongside this, a third railway line between Prayagraj and Mumbai was already sanctioned, which will further facilitate smooth and efficient train movement — especially important for managing the high volume of special trains during Kumbh 2031.

Industries seek swift action for Nashik airport expansion ahead of Kumbh Mela

Nashik: Four months after industries repeatedly urged chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and other ministers to expand the Nashik airport in anticipation of the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela, state govt has not taken concrete steps, raising concerns among the industrial sector. A delegation from the Nashik Industries and Manufacturers' Association (Nima) met NCP MP and party's state president Sunil Tatkare during his recent visit to Nashik. The delegation requested Tatkare to take up the issue with both state and central authorities ahead of the religious conglomerate scheduled between 2026 and 2028. Tatkare held a separate meeting with Nima members to discuss the expansion of the Nashik airport terminal and the inclusion of Nashik in the second phase of the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). Attending the meeting with Tatkare were Nima president Ashish Nahar, vice-president and chairman of the aviation committee Manish Rawal, secretary Rajendra Ahire etc. The delegation also submitted a memorandum to Tatkare regarding the matter. Association members said the airport terminal expansion would take approximately two years; therefore, they stressed on the immediate need to develop proper plans and commence work, considering there are less than two years until the Kumbh Mela. Nima vice-president Rawal said Tatkare assured the delegation he would promptly raise the issue with deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. Moreover, he committed to meeting the relevant Central cabinet ministers to facilitate the expansion of the airport. "We also requested Tatkare to pursue Centre for the inclusion of Nashik in the second phase of the DMIC. He assured us he would take up the matter with the ministers concerned in Delhi," Rawal said. In Jan 2025, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), which manages the Nashik airport, requested state govt to expand the airport amid a projected increase in passenger numbers during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. HAL submitted proposals twice in the last four months seeking the expansion of the airport terminal building and an increase in aircraft parking bays from the current five to 15. However, state govt has yet to initiate any action in this direction. Conversely, an industrialist noted during the meeting that state govt is allocating Rs 1,200 crore for the development of Shirdi airport, but has not made any decision regarding the expansion of the Nashik airport. Nashik airport, located at Janori, approximately 20km from Nashik city, was developed jointly by state govt and HAL at a total cost of Rs 94 crore in 2013 and 2014. State govt invested Rs 84 crore, while HAL contributed Rs 10 crore and provided land for the airport's construction. State govt has leased the Nashik airport terminal building to HAL for 30 years at a rate of Rs 1,000 per month. The airport's seating capacity is currently 300 passengers at a time, whereas during the Kumbh Mela, passenger footfall is expected to reach 1,000 per hour. Consequently, industries urge state govt to develop the Nashik airport ahead of the Kumbh.

Fertiliser stocks up 30%, govt warns against hoarding

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh government has ramped up efforts to ensure the smooth and timely supply of fertilisers, pesticides, and micronutrients during the ongoing Kharif season. The Agriculture Department recently issued a stern warning to all fertiliser dealers and distributors, making it clear that hoarding, black marketing, diversion of fertilisers, or selling above the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) would not be tolerated. With the onset of the Kharif season, farmers rushed to nearby stores to purchase seeds and essential fertilisers, resulting in increased demand. The Agriculture Department advised farmers to avoid panic buying and ignore baseless rumours of shortages, noting that fertiliser stocks in the state have increased by 30% this year compared to the previous Kharif season. S Dilli Rao, director of the agriculture department, stressed that the state government is committed to ensuring fair and uninterrupted access to agricultural inputs, particularly in rural and interior areas. To support this, fertiliser companies, cooperative societies, MARKFED, Rythu Seva Kendras, and private retailers have been instructed to maintain adequate local stock and cooperate with field-level staff. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Book 3 & 4 BHK from 6.76 Cr* All Inc. in Mahalaxmi, Mumbai 7 Mahalaxmi, Runwal Group Book Now Undo Special focus is also being placed on the availability of pesticides and micronutrients, which are equally critical for a healthy crop yield. For July alone, 3.84 LMT (lakh metric tonnes) of fertilisers are scheduled for supply, including 1.30 LMT of urea. The Centre has already allocated the full Kharif requirement of 6.22 LMT of urea, of which 1.95 LMT has been received. Including opening stocks, 4.93 LMT is currently available—sufficient to meet demand through the end of August. Taking note of irregularities in urea and seed sales, Dilli Rao warned that violators will face license cancellation and legal action under the Fertiliser Control Order (FCO) of 1985. He emphasised that distribution must strictly align with crop cultivation patterns and actual ground-level needs.

NHAI begins land drive for ORR work in Krishna district

Vijayawada: The Amaravati Outer Ring Road (ORR) project has gained fresh momentum with the Centre approving the state govt's proposal to expand the road's width from 70 metres to 140 metres. In response, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has accelerated the land acquisition process, submitting requisition proposals for the greenfield alignment around the Vijayawada–Guntur–Tenali urban cluster. Following this, the Competent Authority for Land Acquisition (CALA) and Krishna district joint collector Geetanjali Sharma directed the Vuyyuru tevenue divisional officer (RDO) to initiate land acquisition and secure 3A proposals for an extent of 390.21 hectares. This includes both private and govt lands in Kankipadu and Thotlavalluru mandals of Krishna district. The Amaravati ORR is set to pass through 121 villages across 23 mandals in six districts — NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Palnadu, Bapatla, and parts of Eluru. In Krishna and NTR districts, the alignment will cover mandals such as Gannavaram, Unguturu, Kankipadu, Thotlavalluru, Veerlupadu, G Koduru, and Mylavaram, necessitating land acquisition in nearly all affected villages. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo Currently, the CALA has instructed the Vuyyuru RDO to obtain 3A proposals from tahsildars in Kankipadu and Thotlavalluru mandals. In Thotlavalluru, the focus is on Boddapadu, Chinnapulipaka, North Valluru, South Valluru, and Royyuru. With the state govt prioritizing the Amaravati ORR to boost connectivity around the greenfield capital region, the NHAI is working to complete land acquisition swiftly and begin construction at the earliest.
