Multiple busk stops have been installed across a city in south Wales in a bid to encourage more people to perform on the streets. Seven signs have been placed around Newport city centre by the council, creating designated places for buskers to sing in public.
The music scene in Newport has been thriving according to the council, with the inaugural Newport Music Trail in March being hailed a success. The free festival inspired event has also been confirmed for a second year, with next year's trail taking place on March 27 and 28 next year.
Now, seven 'busk stop' signs, funded by the UK Government Shared Prosperity Fund, have been placed across the city centre creating spaces to allow people to share their talents. Never miss a Newport story by subscribing to our newsletter here
The stops are located in Queensway (outside the railway station), High Street (near popular music venues the Corn Exchange and Le Pub), Market bus station, Upper Dock Street, near the junction of High Street and Bridge St, Austin Friars, Commercial St (near the Charles St junction) and Llanarth Street.
Councillor James Clarke, the council's cabinet member for regeneration and business growth, said: "Busking is a centuries-old tradition around the world and the city is no exception.
"We know from the work done on the place making plan for the city centre that street music is something that is appreciated by many people.

"Regular visitors to the city centre will know that buskers often take up spots and entertain passers-by. We want to let them know they are welcomed and encouraged and the busk stops will help people know where to find them.
"Newport has a fantastic musical reputation and a thriving musical scene in many venues.
"We have recently announced that a second Newport Music Trail will be held next year following the wonderful success of the inaugural event in March. We want to widen that love of music in the city from the indoors to the outdoors.
"We also hope that the busk stops will be used for other forms of street entertainment and will attract new local talent as well as our regular performers."
There are multiple restrictions when busking in Wales that any street performer must abide by.
The council allows buskers with rules that you must observe such as:

Celebrity SAS star Adam Collard blamed himself for partner Laura Woods' miscarriage
Celebrity SAS star Adam Collard blamed himself for partner Laura Woods' miscarriage The former Love Island star is currently competing on the gruelling Channel 4 programme Laura Woods and Adam Collard (Image: INSTAGRAM) Reality TV star Adam Collard has spoken publicly for the first time about the heartbreak he and his fiancée Laura Woods endured after suffering a miscarriage. Collard revealed the couple lost their baby when Laura was 11 weeks pregnant, just weeks before she conceived again. In January 2025, the couple welcomed a baby boy, Leo. The 29-year-old, who rose to fame on Love Island and has since appeared on Celebs Go Dating, is currently taking on brutal physical and mental challenges in the upcoming series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, which began on Sunday. In a deeply personal moment on the show, Collard reflects on the tragedy and admits he blamed himself at the time, believing it to be retribution for his behaviour on reality TV. 'I know it's a terrible way to look at it, but I felt like it was bad karma for me being on dating shows and upsetting too many people,' he says. 'I felt like that was some higher power's way of being like, 'Well, there you go, that's what you have to carry.'' Article continues below He added: 'I was just a cocky little p***k, being a love rat, jumping from girl to girl. I want to show I'm not that man any more.' Collard became known for his controversial stints on Love Island in both 2018 and 2022, where he was at the centre of several short-lived romances. His time on the show earned him a reputation for womanising — coupling up with four different contestants during his first appearance. He later dated Strictly Come Dancing star Zara McDermott for seven months and, more recently, Welsh contestant Paige Thorne during his 2022 return to the villa. That relationship also ended quickly after the show, with Collard later admitting he 'used' Paige to prolong his stay in the competition. He also had a brief relationship with model Lottie Moss after they met on Celebs Go Dating, though that ended shortly after he was accused of cheating. Collard says meeting presenter Laura marked a turning point in his life. The pair began dating in October 2023 and quickly built a strong relationship, announcing they were expecting a child the following year. He described Laura as 'the one' and credited her support, alongside his experience on Celebrity SAS, as having a lasting impact on his mental health. Article continues below 'On a personal level, I wanted to test myself mentally,' he said. 'I had a lot of stuff going on before I went on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins, and I've got to be honest — but credit to the show — I actually think it had the most positive impact on my mental health.'

Amber Davies lets rip at 'selfish' audience member who 'ruined' West End performance
Amber Davies says she will demand the theatre manager takes action the next time she sees anyone filming the production and explained why it impacts those of stage so much Angry actress Amber Davies launched a furious tirade at a 'selfish' audience member who wrecked her West End show. The former Love Island star is appearing in The Great Gatsby Musical in London and she had a lengthy rant after someone in the stalls decided to film the production. Amber explained in detail while recording from your seat is such an issue - and it doesn't just irritate those who pay to see the performance. Amber, who has also played Vivian Ward in the stage show of Pretty Woman, took to Instagram to make her point, and the Welsh star didn't hold back. She told the woman filming to think of others as well as those performing - and says she'll get security to act the next time she sees a person doing it. It comes after Katie Price worried fans with appearance in family photo after explaining her weight loss. "This is a PSA," she said in a video on the social media platform. "The closer you are to the stage when you're watching a show the more obvious it is when you're filming. This is the entire stalls. If you're filming in the stalls we can see you! "From someone who's on stage, I just wanna tell you a little bit about what we see. So we see like a dark canvas and outlines of people's heads. If you're filming, the reflection from the lights bounce straight back the back of your iPhone onto us on stage. So it is the one thing we can see. "So to the woman filming New Money tonight, you distracted absolutely everybody on that stage. And not only that, it takes us out of the Gatsby world because you're filming and you've basically ruined that moment for everybody else who was watching the show tonight." Amber went on to ask: "Please don't be selfish. Stop filming shows. If someone is filming during a show know that this is the consequences that it has to the people on stage and tell them to stop because honestly it's annoying. "Also, I single-handedly will count how many seats back you are and tell our stage manager where you're sitting and what colour hair you've got, and trust me, in the interval they will come and ask you to delete the footage so you've basically done it for nothing. Okay, I'm gonna enjoy act two now." The 29-year-old has since gone on to build an impressive career as a West End actor, landing roles in everything from Bring it On! to Back to the Future. Amber is now using her public platform to raise awareness of drink spiking after she fell victim to it years ago. She hopes that by sharing her ordeal with others, she can help people recognise the signs of it the criminal offence and protect themselves and their loved ones. The Love Island recalled the terrifying incident during a night out in North Wales in 2018, which she has since called an "out of body experience." Amber shot to fame in 2017 as the winner of the third series of the ITV dating reality show alongside her then-partner, Kem Cetinay, after the pair delighted viewers with their adorable relationship. However, shortly after reaching huge reality fame, Amber's drink was spiked during a night out which "took a turn for the worst" and she was rushed to A&E.

Readers and moviegoers familiar with the drugged up ne'er-do-wells of Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting will know he has brought them back to life in Men in Love, the literary sequel (another one) to his thumping 1993 debut. Irvine Welsh Readers love these lads, Welsh told his crowd in North Berwick, because they're archetypes: the cynical intellectual, the 'manipulative fanny merchant'; the loveable loser; and the short-fused psycho. "It's nice to read about people who're more f***ed up than you,' he reckoned. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad This event was the kind of sweary lovefest you get when a 66-year-old bad-boy author appears before a 1,500-strong Fringe audience old enough to recall the Stranglers when all band members were still alive. Ostensibly a discussion about music and films, Irvine drew sighs of delight from the Big Top audience when he revealed that watching White Christmas every year was his guilty pleasure. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad 'I always greet my eyes out when Big Crosby gets back together with Rosemary Clooney,' he confessed. 'I get very sentimental (over) emotional love scenes. Anything violent I just laugh my head off.' Less surprising, perhaps, was the scale of the bender he went on after his beloved Hibs won the Scottish FA Cup. 'It's probably lasted until about now,' he confessed. Nine years then. His bugbear is social media where 'everybody is like a mentally ill, Nazi, incel nonce.' Welsh said people were in thrall to their small screens, and their obsession inevitably hands power to the 'tech bros' and the corporations who 'tell us what to do.'
