Elden Ring Nightreign's most requested game mode is coming next week
Elden Ring Nightreign seemed a bit of a risk at first, being a multiplayer-only follow-up to the epic original, but the game has been a major success.
After topping the charts in the US for a second month, developer FromSoftware announced Elden Ring Nightreign has surpassed five million copies sold within less than two months. At the same time, the expansion for Elden Ring, Shadow Of The Erdtree has hit over 10 million sales.
To celebrate the milestone, FromSoftware has another treat up its sleeve for Nightreign enthusiasts, with a mode which probably should have been included all along.
As shown in a new trailer, Elden Ring Nightreign will get 'Duo Expeditions', aka a two-player mode, in a new update set to be released on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
The 1.02 update will also come with quality-of-life improvements to the user interface, including more filtering options for Relics.
Elden Ring Nightreign was predominantly designed to be played in groups of three, and while there's the option to play solo, that makes it far more difficult.

It's unclear how this Duos mode has been implemented, but hopefully it will be balanced to level the playing field and make two player expeditions not too punishing. Considering FromSoftware has dedicated a trailer to its existence, it suggests a fair amount of work has gone into it. More Trending
More fundamentally, it's much easier to coordinate with just one another player instead of two, so this might make Elden Ring Nightreign more accessible in general, especially to those who don't have two other mates who are Elden Ring fans.
While Elden Ring Nightreign's popularity has dropped on Steam since it launched in May, it has remained steady over the past few weeks. Over the past 24 hours (via SteamDB), the player peak hit just over 50,000 players, just behind Palworld and Red Dead Redemption 2.
FromSoftware's next game will be The Duskbloods, which is set to be released on the Nintendo Switch 2 sometime next year and is also multiplayer-focused.
A recent rumour claimed the studio is also working on another project for 2026, which may be tied to the Armored Core franchise.

GTA Online will add age verification to comply with UK laws claims insider
Rockstar is said to be planning an age verification system for GTA Online, with GTA 6 rumoured to be following suit for its online mode. While GTA 6 is expected to come with its own dedicated online multiplayer mode, it's currently unknown whether that will be something separate from GTA Online or just an extension of it. Will GTA Online be shut down and you'll be forced to hop over to GTA Online 2? Or is the playerbase substantial enough for Rockstar to keep supporting both? Hopefully, Rockstar will have an answer before GTA 6's launch in May 2026, although a new rumour suggests that big changes are coming to the way GTA's online features are accessed, particularly in the UK. The rumour comes from noted Rockstar dataminer Tez2, who believes they've found evidence of age verification for GTA Online within the game's files. 'Rockstar is planning to implement age assurance checks in the near future, rolling them out by region,' Tez2 writes on X. 'You may need to verify your age to access GTA Online, or certain features, like phone messages, text chat, Snapmatic, may be restricted until you verify your age.' However, if this age verification is implemented, adult players will need to provide proof that they are old enough to play GTA Online, while younger players would be locked out entirely. Tez2's claims sound perfectly believable considering recent changes made across the internet thanks to the UK's Online Safety Act. While a lot of focus has been on porn sites needing to ask users for their ID, social media sites have been affected too. More Trending Bluesky, for instance, now demands you either provide your credit card details or a scan of your face to send direct messages. Any businesses that don't comply with the law not only face fines from Ofcom, but also the possibility of being shut down and unable to operate in the UK. The changes have proved unpopular enough to prompt over 400,000 people to sign a petition to have them repealed, citing concerns over cybersecurity and restrictions on free speech. Rockstar has not formally commented on the matter but considering GTA Online features a lot of mature content, including an in-game stirp club, it could very well be facing pressure to comply with the UK's laws. If age verification is implemented, then GTA 6 and its online mode would no doubt have to follow suit. Battlefield 6 beta starts with 2 days early access next week, and here's how to get involved
As part of the big Battlefield 6 reveal, EA has confirmed that the game will indeed have a beta and you can try it out for yourself before the end of August. We've had a good look at Battlefield 6 now, and it's certainly sparking excitement, with a return to the elements that made the series so unique in the first place – unbridled chaos and destruction. And you can give it a whirl for yourself in the August beta weekends. Battlefield 6 has finally been unveiled with its first reveal trailer dropping last week, quickly followed by the multiplayer reveal trailer this week. In the meantime, whispers of a Battlefield 6 beta have been circulating, with leaks hinting at two beta weekends and a couple of days early access before that and lo and behold, they were pretty much on the money. The Battlefield 6 beta is happening across PS5, Xbox Series X |S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, EA App) and you'll be able to preload the game as early as Monday, August 4 so if you're participating, make sure to get that downloaded so when doors open, you can just jump right in. EA has also revealed the PC specs for the Battlefield 6 beta as well as cautioning players on the platform that they'll need to enable Secure Boot to accommodate the company's Javelin Anticheat system. While there were a few methods to secure early access to the Battlefield 6 beta, those opportunities have now passed – but we're not dismissing the chance of more betas with early access, so keep an eye out and be ready for next time, as EA could utilise the same methods to select participants, and we've more details on that below! Battlefield 6 beta early access The Battlefield 6 beta early access period kicks off on Thursday, August 7 at 8am UTC and runs until Friday, August 8, giving you two full days to get to grips with everything before it opens up to everyone. As it continues straight into the first Battlefield 6 open beta weekend, there's no specific 'end time'. Here's exactly when it starts in your local time: 1am UTC 2am MDT 3am CDT 4am EDT 8am UTC 9am BST 10am CET 11am EEST 4pm AWST 5pm JST 6pm AEST How to get Battlefield 6 beta early access The initial way to gain Battlefield 6 beta early access was to be a Battlefield Labs member (or at least have registered) before Thursday, July 31, which is when the multiplayer reveal trailer was released. Battlefield Labs allows players to trial what EA is developing behind the scenes, making it a win-win situation for all involved. No code is needed – you're simply given access on the EA account you used to register. EA has temporarily halted sign-ups, but it's worth keeping tabs on the game's social media channels so you can have another go when they reopen on the official website. Given that members received early access to the Battlefield 6 beta, we might see a similar scenario during a potential second beta. The second method, linked to the reveal, involved watching certain Twitch creators during the reveal streams on Thursday, July 31, to secure a Battlefield 6 beta early access code as a Twitch Drop. Watching streams of eligible creators for an hour would've landed you a code that you could redeem to gain early access to the Battlefield 6 beta. I'd suggest linking your EA account to Twitch in the meantime, so you're all set if EA organises something similar again. You can find the instructions for this on the EA website. Keep in mind that pre-ordering the Battlefield 6 Phantom Edition will get you a beta code, but not for early access. Considering most retailers don't charge for a pre-order until it's dispatched, you could pre-order, participate in the beta, and then cancel your pre-order if you decide it's not for you (or spot a better offer elsewhere). Ubisoft threatened to sue voice actor over Assassin's Creed 4 remake hint
After teasing the rumoured Assassin's Creed 4 remake, the lead voice actor has been given a rap on the knuckles by Ubisoft. A remake of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag has felt like an open secret for years now. Although Ubisoft has not formally confirmed it as part of its future plans for the series, reports of its existence have made the rounds since 2023. Another rumour, from earlier this year, claimed the remake will be out this November and statue maker Pure Arts appeared to hint at this, saying 'there is something going on with Edward', referring to Black Flag protagonist Edward Kenway. Even the character's own voice actor, Matt Ryan, contributed to the rumblings, just a couple of months ago, although he's now revealed this almost got him into serious trouble with Ubisoft. For context, in late June, a video clip made the rounds on social media, of Ryan speaking with a fan about Black Flag at a convention. Ryan simply asked the fan if they had beaten the game, before following up with, 'Well you may have to beat it again.' The Assassin's Creed community naturally took this as a further hint at a Black Flag remake, but when Ryan was quizzed about it during a more recent convention, he bluntly denied any knowledge about it. When the clip from June was brought up, Ryan claimed he wasn't aware he was being recorded at the time and he's now keeping quiet because Ubisoft threatened him with legal action. 'When that happened, someone was [recording me], and I was being very free and open, but I didn't know that they actually were recording me on their phone,' explained Ryan. More Trending Voice actors are usually bound by NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) for unannounced video games. It's why Rockstar's voice actors always keep their mouths shut when pressed about appearing in a new GTA or Red Dead Redemption game. Often, they aren't even told what game they're voicing for and are just as surprised by announcements as the rest of the public. As for what has been claimed about the remake, it's said to be in the works at Ubisoft Singapore (the same studio behind Ubisoft's other pirate game, Skull & Bones) and will see changes made to certain gameplay aspects as well as its visuals. While Ubisoft is keeping schtum on the remake, it did almost admit it plans to port Assassin's Creed Shadows to the Nintendo Switch 2.
