ChatGPT may soon watermark your AI-generated images, but there could be a way out (APK teardown)

OpenAI is working on a lot of new features for ChatGPT. We've spotted features like Study Together, Image Styles, and even a yearly plan in the works. Continuing the spree, we've now found code that indicates ChatGPT could be looking to watermark the images it generates, though some users could get the option to save generated images without the watermark.

An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.
Back in April 2025, Tibor Blaho on X spotted that a new ImageGen watermark was in the works within ChatGPT. The app's strings mentioned the watermark as 'image-gen-watermark-for-free,' indicating that it could only be coming to ChatGPT's free users.
The latest ChatGPT v1.2025.196 beta includes code that enables a 'Save without watermark' option when generating images. We managed to activate the feature to give you an early look:

As you can see in the screenshots above, ChatGPT will present the usual options for users on generated images, namely Edit, Select, Save, and Share. When the feature goes live, tapping the three-dot menu will reveal a Save without watermark option. We activated the feature on the free tier of ChatGPT, but that could be because of its in-development nature.
Building upon the previous leak, it could be that the watermark is applied to all ChatGPT-generated images. However, paid subscribers could have the option to save the image without a watermark if they wish. There's also a chance that all generated images could have a watermark, and all users could have the option to save without a watermark, but the process flow would add enough friction to dissuade the casual user.
ChatGPT hasn't announced this feature, so there's still a chance they could scrap the idea of watermarking images, or change other aspects of it. We'll keep you updated when we learn more.

Exclusive-Three Intel senior executives to retire amid manufacturing shake up

Cherney SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) -Three senior executives in Intel's manufacturing operations are set to retire, Intel told Reuters on Thursday, as new CEO Lip-Bu Tan implements sweeping change to resuscitate the struggling U.S. chipmaker. Intel told staff on Tuesday that corporate vice presidents in the technology development group, Kaizad Mistry and Ryan Russell, would retire, as would Gary Patton, corporate vice president at its Design Technology Platform organization and a former IBM executive. Intel also discussed changes to the technology development group, which is responsible for creating manufacturing processes, said two people briefed on the matter. The chipmaker plans to reduce its manufacturing capacity planning team and cut a portion of its engineering team, the people said. Intel declined to comment on the changes. Manufacturing operations are led by former Micron Technology executive Naga Chandrasekaran, who was hired about a year ago by then-CEO Pat Gelsinger. Chandrasekaran's responsibility expanded in March as he took over technology development and manufacturing. He has since reorganized staff under him, including layoffs as part of global cutbacks. When Intel announced its quarterly financial results last week, CEO Tan, who assumed the role in March, set a goal of slashing the chipmaker's workforce to 75,000 people by year-end, a reduction of around 22%. Intel also vowed to take a more disciplined approach to manufacturing investment. Intel said its next-generation 14A manufacturing process depends on securing a new, significant customer, otherwise it could suspend or terminate development. "We're developing Intel 14A ... from the ground up in close partnership with large external customers," Tan said in a memo released with the financial results. "Going forward, our investment in Intel 14A will be based on confirmed customer commitments." Tan also told investors that Intel's 18A process could only generate a reasonable return if it is used for in-house products. Tan has debated whether to stop offering 18A technology to external customers to focus on 14A, Reuters reported in July. Intel plans to ramp to high-volume manufacturing its Panther Lake PC chips this year using its 18A manufacturing process.

Tech Darling Figma Soars 198% Following IPO; Holds $70M in Bitcoin ETF
Shares of Figma (FIG) rose 198% on its first day of trading on the New York Stock Exchange after the company raised $1.2 billion for its Wednesday initial public offering (IPO). The firm priced shares at $33 a share under the ticker 'FIG," valuing the company at about $20 billion. The stock changed hands at $98 in initial trades on Thursday, suggesting a valuation closer to $60 billion. Figma, a developer of design software, previously disclosed the ownership roughly $70 million worth of the Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB) and said it plans to buy another $30 million worth of spot bitcoin (BTC). While Figma is far from being a crypto company, the fact that it holds bitcoin could possibly start a trend for other Silicon Valley firm had signed a deal with Adobe to be purchased for $20 billion, but the software company terminated the deal in 2023, agreeing to pay Figma a $1 billion termination fee. Figma is the latest company to take advantage of a hot IPO season in which crypto firms like Circle (CRCL) or eToro (TOR) have seen their stock price and valuation skyrocket in the phase of regulatory clarity being established in the U.S.
