Meghan Markle's wedding speech left guests shocked with this one remark

Daily Record19-05-2025

It has been seven years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got married.
Today marks seven years since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot at St George's Chapel. The couple's big day was a beautiful occasion and the world watched on as they became the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
After the stunning ceremony the newlyweds and hundreds of their guests headed to their reception followed by an evening party which was hosted by Harry's now estranged father, King Charles, at Frogmore House.
Insiders say it really was quite the celebration with guests tucking into 'dirty burgers' and candyfloss and drinking themed cocktails. One cocktail was even named 'When Harry Met Meghan' - a nod to the iconic romcom movie When Harry Met Sally, writes The Mirror.
Meghan also made a speech at her big day, which apparently left many guests speechless. In her moving speech, she said she had "found her prince", praised the late Queen and thanked Charles for stepping in at the last minute to walk her down the aisle.
However, royal biographers Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claim in their book that Meghan hinted at how she had not been able to use her voice during her time as part of the Royal Family in the speech. In the book Finding Freedom, they write: "A first for a royal bride, the move reinforced the idea that this American was no typical duchess.
"'You could literally hear a pin drop', said a close confidant, who described the speech as a momentous occasion even for the Americans. 'For her to have been quiet for as long as she had, and then have this really safe space where she could give these heartfelt remarks, it was a really special moment', the source said.
"'She spent so many years, whether on campus, on TV, or advocating for women to be empowered, speaking out. And she's respected that. She does have a lot of respect for the family and the institution that she has joined. But it's just a different way of living. We'd missed hearing her speak'. And apparently Meghan felt the same way, because she laughed, 'I know it's been a while'."
Years later, during her interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan spoke directly on the issue of not having a voice, saying she had been silenced and comparing herself to The Little Mermaid. She said she was shocked by the parallels between herself and the cartoon princess who also 'lost her voice' after marrying royalty.
She recalled a day when she sat down at the couple's former home, Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, to watch the movie on TV. "Now, who as an adult really watches The Little Mermaid?" she joked to Oprah. "But it came on and I was like, well, I'm just here all the time, so I may as well watch this.
"And I went 'Oh my God, she falls in love with a prince and because of that she has to lose her voice'. "But by the end, she gets her voice back," she added.
In her and Harry's explosive Netflix series released in 2022, Meghan revealed what exactly she said in her wedding day speech. In the last episode of the six-part series, Meghan reads the speech from her phone while sat beside Harry and says her first line "got a big laugh" from guests.
She then read out: "Onto the crux of why I wanted to speak tonight. First of all, it's been a while. Continuing to recall her speech, Meghan goes on: "But mostly I wanted to share a story. A story about the man that I love and the way that we met.
'Let's call this a modern fairytale. Once upon a time, there was a girl from LA. Some people called her 'an actress'. And there was a guy from London. Some people called him 'a prince'. All of those people didn't fully get it. Because this is the love story of a boy and a girl who were meant to be together.
"They meet on July 3rd, 2016 in London and they giggle endlessly. "They have their second date and he brings her cupcakes because it's 4 July.''A bittersweet celebration', he says. Ironic really. Her country's independence from his country. Yet in this moment they know they don't want to be independent from each other.
"And after a month of long-distance courtship, they settle into the quiet of Botswana. And amidst whatever momentary worries that creep in, they look at each other and think, whatever world we're in. They would love and garden and travel and laugh, and rack up more air miles than any couple could have.
"And when the tides were rough, they squeezed each other tighter. 'Nothing can break us,' they'd say. 'For this love, she was a fighter.' "I appreciate, respect and honour you, my treasure, for the family we will create. And our love story that will last forever. "So I ask you to raise a glass to the astounding assurance that now life begins. And the everlasting knowing that, above all, love wins.'

Meghan shares video of family trip to Disneyland for Lili's fourth birthday

The Duchess of Sussex has shared another intimate video of the family celebrating Princess Lilibet's fourth birthday at Disneyland. The post on Instagram showed the family enjoying rides at the California attraction, drawing comparisons with Harry's childhood trip to Florida's Walt Disney World with Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1993. The montage also features a clip of Archie, six, and Lili meeting Disney princess Elsa, from the film Frozen. Meghan wears a Minnie Mouse hat in some of the snaps featured in the video, while another image shows a two-tier Little Mermaid-themed birthday cake for Lili. The duchess captioned the video: 'Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!' The footage was reminiscent of photos taken of the duke when he was eight and his mother Diana took him and William to Walt Disney World. At the time, the royal siblings were photographed sitting at the front of a log on the Splash Mountain ride, with adults from their mother's entourage behind them and Diana seated at the back. Meghan's post follows a number of family shots over recent days to mark Lili's birthday. In one, she posted a throwback video of herself twerking in a bid to bring on labour while pregnant with the princess, while another post featured a black and white snap of herself cuddling Lili. In another post, she described how Lili's relationship with Harry was 'the sweetest bond to watch unfold'. She shared two photos of the princess with her father the duke, adding: 'Daddy's little girl and favorite adventurer. Happy birthday Lili!' Lili – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's youngest child – was born on June 4 2021 and was named Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. Lilibet is named after her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.

Presenter who was one of the most recognisable faces on TV quit for 'normal' job

Michael Underwood was a mainstay of children's TV in the 1990s and 2000s, presenting shows like Jungle Run, Ministry of Mayhem and Xchange A beloved figure in children's television during the late 90s and early 00s, took an unexpected turn when his presenting roles became scarce - he courageously decided to retrain and embark on a drastically different career path. Initially stumbling into the world of presenting after discovering a callout for audition tapes during his time at a radio station, Michael Underwood carved out a niche for himself, hosting a range of iconic kids' shows like Jungle Run and Ministry of Mayhem, as well as becoming a familiar face as an entertainment reporter for GMTV and Good Morning Britain. ‌ Beyond his presenting credentials, at age 39, Michael has also participated in high-profile reality shows such as Dancing on Ice, Celebrity MasterChef, and All Star Mr and Mrs with his partner, fellow presenter and Celebrity Big Brother star Angellica Bell. She too is known for her work with classic children's programmes like Xchange, 50/50, and That's Genius! ‌ He and Angellica lead a comparably ordinary life in their five-bedroom Victorian semi in Kingston-upon-Thames, London, with their son and daughter. However, when Michael's opportunities began to wane, he found himself at a crossroads. Speaking to The Mirror, he disclosed: "The phone stopped ringing. It's just not a nice place to be in. I needed to make a decision." "I thought you know what, I've got my teaching degree, I've got 20 years in broadcasting behind me, maybe I can take that skill set and put it to good use. Help build children's confidence, help them with their oracy, and their presenting skills. That's when I thought: 'Yeah, let's grab the bull by the horns and maybe take a step out into a different career'." He first took up a part-time drama teacher position at Surbiton High Boy's Prep School, peppering Year 4 classes with his broadcast experience, until he stepped up as a form teacher in 2019. Last September, with a full teaching degree under his belt, he embraced a full-time position at King's College School in Wimbledon. Reflecting on his earlier ambitions, he shared: "I never grew up wanting to be a television presenter, acting's what I loved but my family could never afford to send me to drama school." Recounting familial influences, he continued: "My mum was a nursery nurse, my sister was a nursery nurse, so working with children was in the family. It was my mum who actually said: 'Why don't you think of doing drama as a teaching degree, specialise in that and you've got something to fall back on if the acting doesn't work out.'".

Meghan shares video of trip to Disneyland with Prince Harry and children Archie and Lilibet

The Duchess of Sussex has shared a video of a family trip to Disneyland to celebrate daughter Lilibet's fourth birthday. In a post on Instagram, Meghan, 43, thanked the theme park, in California, for "giving our family two days of pure joy!" The video collage of photos of the trip with Prince Harry, 40, and their children Archie, six, and Lilibet, who turned four on Wednesday, is set to singer Peggy Lee's It's A Good Day. The children, who are pictured from behind or with their faces obscured by hearts, are seen meeting Elsa from Frozen in one video clip. The family are seen enjoying rides including Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Dumbo The Flying Elephant, Star Wars: Rise Of The Resistance, and the Cars Land ride. In one image Meghan and Harry appear to be screaming, with mouths open, on the front row of Space Mountain. Lilibet, who was named after the late Queen's childhood nickname, is barefoot and wearing a pink dress with bows in another picture of all four posing together. Other photographs show Lilibet's Little Mermaid birthday cake, Mickey and Minnie Mouse stuffed dolls and plates of pickles and corn dogs. Meghan's latest post comes after she shared a video of her and Harry dancing to a song called The Baby Momma Dance before she gave birth to Lilibet on 4 June. The duchess said the video was recorded four years ago, adding: "Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work - there was only one thing left to do!" Meghan also shared a series of photos of Lilibet, writing: "Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! "Four years ago today, she came into our lives - and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!"
