NIA charge sheets three Maoist guerrillas in 2023 Kerala forest office attack
New Delhi: Three Maoists guerillas from the Kabani Dalam squad were named in the charge sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in a Special Kerala court in connection with the armed attack on the Kerala Forest Department Corporation (KFDC) office at Wayanad in 2023, said an official on Saturday.
The charge sheet was filed before the Special Court, Ernakulam, against the three members of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) terrorist organisation on Friday.
Those named in the chargesheet are C.P. Moideen alias Girish alias Salil alias Sajan, Manoj P.M. alias Ashique, and P.K. Soman alias Shahid alias Akbar.
They have been charged under various sections of the IPC, Arms Act, Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, Kerala Forest Act, 1961 and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, said an NIA official.
A total of five members of CPI (Maoist), armed with deadly weapons, had unlawfully assembled and criminally trespassed into the KFDC office on September 28, 2023, said the chargesheet.
They had restrained the KFDC Manager and damaged public property and equipment using iron rods. Raising Maoist slogans, the men had also pasted CPI (Maoist) posters in the office premises, it said.
After the incident, four attackers were arrested subsequently by the law enforcement agencies, and one had surrendered before the police.
The NIA, which took over the case a few days later, found during the investigation that C.P. Moideen, Manoj P.M., and P.K. Sonam, along with H. S. Ravindra alias Kotehonda Ravialias alias Manoj alias Ramu and Santhosh Kumar A alias Sandhosh Kumar alias Raja, were members of the Military Wing People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) of CPI (Maoist).
They had formed a local guerrilla squad named Kabani Dalam in Wayanad forests, and were actively engaged in acts of terrorism, aimed at spreading fear among the public and destabilising the government. The attack at KFDC was part of their violent anti-national agenda, the NIA said.

If govt can agree to truce with Pak, why not with Naxals: TPCC chief
Hyderabad: Telangana Congress president B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah launched 'Operation Kagar' (Operation Black Forest) to hand over the mineral wealth of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand to the corporates, under the pretext of eliminating Naxalites. He also criticised the Modi govt for not accepting the offer of talks made by the Maoists. "It is unfortunate that the central govt, under pressure from US President Donald Trump, agreed to a ceasefire and hold talks with Pakistan, which is sponsoring terrorism, but not agreeing to talks with our own citizens (Maoists). Congress' ideology is non-violence, and it will not support any kind of violence, including that done by the Maoists," he said, speaking at a round table meeting convened by Left parties, human rights, and civil society organisations at Sundarayya Vignana Kendram. All the secular and democratic forces, including Congress, should condemn the killing of Naxalites by the govt in 'Operation Kagar', even after the Maoists expressed willingness to hold talks, he said. Just because they (BJP) have power, "the govt violence" on the pretext of 'Operation Kagar' cannot be supported. Since coming to power, the BJP govt has been dismantling constitutional institutions, he added. "When someone is ready for talks, they should be held. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like People Aged 50-85 With No Life Insurance Could Get This Reassured Get Quote Undo The BJP plays politics in the name of religion and gods. There are instances when talks were held during the time of even Lord Rama and Lord Krishna. Not accepting talks reveals their fascist ideology. They have been toppling democratically elected govts in various states. Only a few people are able to oppose them, and one of them is the Gandhi family," Mahesh Goud said. The TPCC chief narrated an ancecdote when Rahul Gandhi, Meenakshi Natarajan, chief minister A Revanth Reddy, and deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka and he were going in a car to attend Bharat Summit in Hyderabad on April 26. "Meenakshi said security forces surrounded Karregutta as part of 'Operation Kagar', but expressed concern that there were civilians there too. Then Rahul Gandhi said that you can eliminate individuals and even a group of people but not their cause. Subsequently, CM Revanth said he would speak to representatives of all parties in this regard. The Gandhi family even pardoned the killers of Rajiv Gandhi, as the Congress firmly believes in non-violence," he said. Telangana Congress leadership would discuss and take a decision soon on the support sought by the Left parties and organisations against 'Operation Kagar'.

HC acquits DRDO officer in rape case, citing major lapses in probe
1 2 Hyderabad: The Telangana high court has acquitted an administrative officer at DRDO, Shameerpet, who was previously convicted of rape and criminal intimidation. A division bench, comprising Justices P Sam Koshy and N Tukaramji, overturned the special sessions court's Sept 2024 verdict, finding the prosecution's case riddled with inconsistencies and lacking credible evidence. The allegations dated back to Jan 2017, when a minor girl accused the officer—a close friend of her divorced mother—of sexually assaulting her in her mother's absence. Based on her claims, he was convicted under IPC sections 376(2)(f)(n) (rape of a minor by a person in authority) and 506 (criminal intimidation) and sentenced to life imprisonment for impregnating the minor. However, the high court found the prosecution failed to establish the charges beyond reasonable doubt. The foetal sample submitted for forensic analysis was too decomposed for conclusive DNA testing. Further weakening the case, the officer produced a 2005 sterilisation certificate indicating he had undergone a vasectomy—casting serious doubt on his biological ability to father a child. Medical documentation essential to corroborate the pregnancy and abortion claims, including ultrasound reports and compliance with the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, were notably absent. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dermatologista recomenda: simples truque elimina o fungo facilmente Acabe com o Fungo Undo The court also highlighted the victim's contradictory statements about her mother's whereabouts at the time of the alleged incident and the unexplained delay of seven days in filing the FIR. Criticising the investigation as lackadaisical, the high court bench noted procedural lapses such as failure to examine the doctor who allegedly performed the abortion and poor handling of forensic evidence. The prosecution's reliance on uncorroborated circumstantial evidence, in violation of established legal standards (as per Sharad Birdhi Chand Sarda versus state of Maharashtra), was also condemned. The bench emphasised that conviction cannot rest solely on the female prosecutor's inconsistent testimony without supporting evidence of 'sterling quality.' The court ordered Sharma's immediate release and called for urgent reforms in investigative procedures, including specialised training, independent supervision, and continuous professional development. Justice Tukaramji, in a separate note, urged the formation of dedicated investigative teams for sensitive cases and the establishment of independent oversight bodies to ensure transparency, accountability, and public trust in the criminal justice system.
