Terrence Howard isn't open to playing gay roles in films.
Howard is an accomplished actor, but he will never live down fumbling the Marvel Studios bag, and he might have fumbled another one due to what many people on social media are describing as homophobia.
Terrence Howard revealed he almost took a role in the forthcoming biopic about the late legendary singer Marvin Gaye while speaking with Bill Maher on the comedian and Real Time host's podcast, Club Random .
Howard told Maher that he believes he made the 'biggest mistake' of his career, aside from fumbling the role of James Rhodes to Don Cheadle in the MCU, was passing up the starring role in the Smokey Robinson biopic.
But instead of taking on the role, he decided to entertain his longtime Empire collaborator Lee Daniels, revealing that he had a conversation with Daniels about playing Marvin Gaye in a different biopic.
Maher responded, saying that he believed that Howard made the right decision because Gaye's life story was 'much more interesting,' adding that he 'would've been perfect as Marvin Gaye, and that is a story that needs to be told.' Terrence Howard Passed On Marvin Gaye Role After Hearing Story About His Alleged Sexuality
Howard decided to go full Lucious Lyon and pass on the role because of a story he heard from the late Quincy Jones regarding Gaye's alleged sexuality, and that he couldn't kiss a man, saying he would cut his lips off.
Per Variety :
'I was over at Quincy Jones' house and I'm asking Quincy, 'I'm hearing rumors that Marvin was gay' and I'm like, 'Was he gay?'' Howard explained. 'And Quincy's like, 'Yes.''
After that revelation, Howard decided he 'could not' star in the movie.
'They would've wanted to do that, and I wouldn't have been able to do that,' he said of portraying a gay man in a movie.
Maher went on to ask, 'You mean you couldn't kiss a guy on screen in a movie?' Howard responded, 'No. Because I don't fake it.'
'That would fuck me,' Howard added. 'I would cut my lips off. If I kissed some man, I would cut my lips off.'
Maher responded by saying he wouldn't go that far, but understands why Howard felt the way he did about the role. Howard further explained, 'It does not make me homophobic to not want to kiss a man.'
The actor says it was more of a matter of him committing to the role.
'I can't play that character 100 percent,' Howard told Maher. 'I can't surrender myself to a place that I don't understand.' Social Media Isn't Buying What Howard Is Selling
Maher might understand where Howard is coming from, but social media, on the other hand, is not feeling what the Best Man star said about passing the role.
' Learning that Terrance Howard is a woman abuser, is homophobic & supports trump all in the same sitting… oh my…. Hustle & flow was NO ACT!,' one user on X, formerly Twitter, wrote.
Another user added, ' Terrence Howard is a man with a criminal record and history of beating women. You lost your 'man card' a long time ago.'
Well damn.

Diddy Was Having Freak-Offs Right Up Until He Was Arrested And More From Trial's Fifth Week
Source: Penske Media / Getty In order to have drug-filled 'freak-offs' someone had to bring drugs from city to city and according to Jane Doe in the trial of Bad Boy records founder Sean 'Diddy' Combs that job repeatedly fell on her. According to Deadline, 'Jane,' a pseudonym used to hide her identity, claims that she and others in the rap mogul's inner circle were required to transport Ecstasy and more, which was used for drug-fueled sex sessions. 'I just asked her if this was safe and okay,' Combs' ex-girlfriend, said to reported Diddy top aide Kristina Khorram about taking a bag of drugs from LA to Miami. This was Jane's second day on the stand, and Jane noted that 'KK' replied, 'It's fine, I do it all the time, just put it in your checked-in luggage.' During what Deadline noted was a 'sometimes-tear-filled testimony,' Janed added that she was required to carry Ecstasy across state lines for Diddy. She confirmed earlier testimony from Diddy's ex, Cassie Ventura, that the pills and cocaine were used during marathon 'freak-off' sex sessions with male escorts. Jane also claimed that Combs would use 'personal assistants and security details to procure more when his current stash ran out for the often filmed 'freak-offs,' Deadline reports. All of it, Jane claimed, took a toll on her as she noted that she unsuccessfully begged Combs to have the male escorts wear condoms during what could be days-long 'freak-offs.' Jane told Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey, that she feared with the crazy amount of drug use that things could get violent. Diddy, she claimed, was dismissive of all of her concerns. Jane and Diddy had been in an ongoing situationship since 2021. Jane, who described herself as an online influencer and single mother, noted that Diddy was nice during the courting part of their relationship, even offering to pay for her house and supplement her income. But, as Cassie and others claimed, these were all merely controlling tactics to make the women dependent on him. 'Again, like he did with Ventura and others, as the prosecution clearly intends to convey to the jury, a sometimes semen-smeared Combs used the same M.O. of drugs, blackmail, fear and violence to make a baby oiled up, lingerie and high-heels wearing 'Jane' participate in the 'freak-offs,' Deadline reports. Jane told the jury that in September 2023, she sent a text to Combs noting her distress over participating in 'freak-offs' and having forced sex with paid men. 'It's hurting me,' she told Combs, 'It's dark, sleazy, and makes me feel disgusted with myself.' The text added: 'I don't want to play this role anymore. I'm so much more than this …I feel like it's the only reason you have me around and pay for the house.' 'Girl, stop,' Combs reportedly replied. Jane said that the 'freak-offs' initially ran from May 2021 to October 2023, usually taking place at upscale hotels, and then stopped for about three months. Then Cassie filed her lawsuit alleging abuse and assault, which was quickly settled out of court. CNN released the footage of Diddy beating Cassie in a hotel hallway, and then, just a month later, the 'freak-offs' reportedly picked back up at Diddy's Florida home. There were five alleged sessions, and the last one reportedly occurred just a few weeks before Diddy was arrested. The 55-year-old rapper/producer/media mogul, who was once known for 'being all up in the videos,' has been on trial in New York City since May 12. If found guilty of federal charges, which include racketeering, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, he could face life in prison. Funk Pioneer Sly Stone Dead At 82, Social Media Remembers His Greatness
Source: Michael Putland / Getty Sylvester Stone, who, along with his band The Family Stone, had a major impact on rock, funk, R&B, and hip-hop music, has passed away. He was 82. His family says that the musician passed away after a health battle that included COPD, a progressive lung disease. 'After a prolonged battle with COPD and other underlying health issues, Sly passed away peacefully, surrounded by his three children, his closest friend, and his extended family,' his family said in a statement obtained by Variety. 'While we mourn his absence, we take solace in knowing that his extraordinary musical legacy will continue to resonate and inspire for generations to come.' In the '60s, Sly and the Family Stone released groundbreaking albums including Dance to the Music and There's a Riot Goin' On from 1967 to 1974. The multi-racial band included his brother, Freddie, on guitar and vocals, and his sister, Rose, on keyboard and piano, as well as Cynthia Robinson on trumpet and Larry Graham on bass. Their big hits included 'Dance to the Music,' 'Everyday People,' and 'I Want to Take You Higher.' Not only was the band one of the first of its era to feature both male and female instrumentalists, but it was also one of the first to include both men and women. Stone, born Sylvester Stewart in Denton, Texas, on March 15, 1943, moved to Northern California with his family as a child. His musical career started with his siblings as the gospel group the Stewart Four. After studying music at Vallejo College, he became a radio personality at San Francisco's KSOL Radio and then moved on to producing artists at Autumn Records. He formed Sly and the Family Stone in 1966, and they soon reached the pinnacle of the music world in an era when rock and psychedelia dominated. They combined genres, incorporating funk, R&B, and soul, to craft their own unique sound in a world where rock stars were predominantly white and male. They, along with Jimi Hendrix and others, played the legendary Woodstock Festival in 1969. The band was considered a direct influence on Prince's most commercially successful group, The Revolution, with which he performed during the Purple Rain era. It also included Black and white musicians and women who played instruments. Graham played in The New Power Generation, Prince's band in the 1990s, and remained connected to him throughout the latter part of his life. A proposed collaboration that Stone mentioned in his 2023 memoir never materialized, but the men shared mutual admiration for each other, and Prince often played covers of Stone's music in his live shows. Hip hop musicians sampled Stone as well. Dr. Dre and Snoop used 'Sing a Simple Song' for 'Deep Cover.' KRS used it as well for 'Sound of Da Police.' LL Cool J's song, 'Mama Said Knock You Out,' incorporates 'Trip To Your Heart.' Sly and the Family Stone were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Earlier this year, Questlove of The Roots directed a documentary on Stone called Sly Lives! (aka The Burden of Black Genius) for Hulu. Stone's career was derailed by drug abuse after the original Sly and the Family Stone broke up unofficially around 1975. He was at one time living in a van and was homeless, then spent years out of the public eye. However, Stone resurfaced in recent years, playing select live shows and contributing to the writing of his memoir and the documentary. His family's statement concluded, 'Sly was a monumental figure, a groundbreaking innovator, and a true pioneer who redefined the landscape of pop, funk, and rock music. His iconic songs have left an indelible mark on the world, and his influence remains undeniable. In a testament to his enduring creative spirit, Sly recently completed the screenplay for his life story, a project we are eager to share with the world in due course, which follows a memoir published in 2024.'
