Kate Waugh no one-hit-wonder after third place finish

Kate Waugh has proved that she is no one-hit-wonder after a third place finish in the T100 San Francisco.
The 26-year-old from Gateshead won the opening event of the season in Singapore back in April and had a target on her back coming into the second race on the west coast.
And Waugh silenced any concerns as to whether she would be able to back up her performance by shaking off her struggling bike legs and putting down a dominant run to soar into third.
Switzerland's Julie Derron claimed the victory, with reigning T100 Series champion Taylor Knibb in second.
"I was joking that I didn't want to be the one hit wonder so I'm really happy to back it up with another podium," said Waugh.
"I've been determined this year to be a more consistent athlete and I think that has been reflected in my races.
'Given that I didn't feel my best today, I'm even prouder. In Singapore I felt really good all day so it was easier to get a good result whereas today I pushed through that negative point."
One of the first athletes out of the choppy bay waters in San Francisco, Waugh was surprised to get onto the bike and feel off her axis.
Falling back in the field, the Brit admitted that she had to dig deep and brush off the negative comments in her head to keep focussed in time for the run.
"It was a bit of a rollercoaster of a day, I felt like I had a really good swim start and got into rhythm and good place," she said.
"But then I really struggled the first part of the bike and ended up in no man's land a bit so I was having to really motivate myself and keep minimise the gap to the front.
"I was really struggling out there and sightly worried coming onto the run as to how I would feel but luckily my run legs turned up and I put myself to work to get onto the podium so I'm really proud to do that."
With two podiums in two races, Waugh holds her spot at the top of the series rankings after San Francisco.
The next event takes place in Vancouver in just two weeks time, with the Brit not yet sure whether she will be taking to the start line to extend her lead in the standings.
But with two strong races under her belt so early in the season, Waugh is excited to see how far she can go as she looks to improve the little things.
"I never expected to be in this position so I'm really excited to build going forwards," she added.
"I want to be consistent and I have loads of things to improve on but that's getting me good results."

Gordon Ramsay makes his true feelings known towards future son-in-law Adam Peaty

Olympic swimming legend Adam Peaty took on his toughest challenge yet, with future father-in-law Gordon Ramsay in full support. On Sunday, the 30-year-old pushed through a brutal triathlon, surrounded by a very famous cheer squad. The Strictly Come Dancing star, who has six Olympic medals under his belt, dived into his first-ever triathlon as part of the T100 Triathlon World Tour. Unsurprisingly, he was surrounded by his biggest supporters both in and out of the water as 'Team Ramsay' were on hand for the event. His fiancée, Holly Ramsay, was there to cheer him on, along with his young son George, who beamed with pride throughout the day. The Ramsay family was out in full force – Holly's mum, Tana, and siblings Megan, Tilly, and Jack all participated in the event alongside him. Gordon, 58, had hoped to take part himself but was benched by doctors after getting stitches in his cheek – but he more than made up for it with enthusiastic sideline support. It was a big day filled with famous faces, with McFly drummer Harry Judd and former racing driver Billy Monger also among the competitors. The triathlon was no joke – a 2km swim, an 80km cycle, and an 18km run made up the punishing course. Adam powered through and crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 34 minutes, and 37 seconds, collapsing into a hug from his proud loved ones. Moments after the triathlon ended, George ran up to his dad with a handmade sign that read 'I love you. Go Daddy', and gave him a kiss. Holly was glowing with pride as her future husband caught his breath. 'That was the hardest thing I've ever done,' Adam said afterwards, before adding: 'I'd 100% do it again.' Reflecting on the experience, he later shared on Instagram: 'Before this I never raced for more than a few minutes, never swam open water, never raced on a bike or had ever done a 10km run with people of all paces around me. Glad I got all of those ticked off today.' Adam's relationship with Holly began in 2023, and the Olympian popped the question last Autumn. While the couple initially kept things quiet, it was Gordon who let the wedding plans slip during an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show. 'It's going to be a Christmas wedding,' he said, revealing they'd already started scouting venues and making arrangements. The celebrity chef went on to praise Adam, calling him a down-to-earth, driven man and the ideal match for his daughter. Gordon shared that Adam had asked for his and Tana's blessing during a family trip to Cornwall, describing the moment as emotional and unforgettable. 'As a future son-in-law, we couldn't ask for better,' he continued, clearly touched by the swimmer's sincerity. The feeling is mutual, as Adam has spoken openly about how welcomed he feels by the Ramsay family. And yes, Gordon is already planning the wedding menu – something Holly says he has been excited about from day one. 'He's definitely taking charge of the food,' she told Closer Magazine, laughing about her dad's enthusiasm for the big day. Holly first shared news of their engagement with an emotional Instagram post, calling Adam her 'best friend' and saying she still remembers the smile she had after their first date. She thanked him for making her feel 'loved, seen and happier than ever' and said she couldn't wait to become his wife. Adam posted his own heartfelt message soon after, calling Holly 'gentle, caring and beautiful,' and saying he felt like the luckiest man alive. More Trending He also spoke about how close he's become to her family, describing their warmth, support, and generosity as something he's incredibly grateful for. Now, with wedding bells ringing this Christmas and triathlon medals added to his collection, Adam seems to be entering a brand new chapter – on both the podium and in his personal life. Between gruelling training, new athletic goals, and a growing family, he has embracing it all with humility and heart. Shaun Murphy: Triple Crown events head and shoulders above Saudi Arabia Masters

Shaun Murphy feels the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters is still some way behind the more traditional Triple Crown events in standing, saying: 'You can't buy legacy.' The tournament is in just its second year, being played in Jeddah this week after a move from the first edition in Riyadh last season. The event boasts an enormous prize fund which is only just shy of the World Championship and offers the same £500,000 winner's cheque as the Crucible. With a 10-year deal in place and the whopping prize pot, the Saudi Arabia Masters has been dubbed the 'fourth major' by World Snooker Tour, putting it alongside the World Championship, UK Championship and Masters. Many fans are not entirely impressed with a brand new event being lumped in with the three most prestigious tournaments on the calendar, but the substantial investment from Saudi Arabia has bought the 'fourth major' tag. However, despite the big money on offer, Murphy does not see the Saudi Arabia Masters as on a par with any of the Triple Crown events just yet, believing history and legacy cannot be matched just by cash. 'I've still got one foot in the history camp,' Murphy told Metro. 'I still think the history and the legacy of the existing three majors, the Triple Crown events, I think they're stand alone events. 'This event obviously rivals the World Championship in terms of prize money and it's a 10-year deal, so it's got the potential to become in great standing, but at the moment, for me, the other three would still be ahead of this one, despite the prize money.' He added: 'You can't buy legacy. The prize money here is massive and we're all enjoying competing and somebody is going to walk away with £500,000 this week, it's an amazing opportunity and we're all very grateful for it. 'But the legacy and how special the Triple Crown events are, you can't buy that. For me, those events are head and shoulders above everything else.' Murphy got his campaign in Jeddah off to a very good start on Tuesday with a 5-1 win over the in-form Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, who had made a 147 earlier in the tournament. In a packed session which featured eight top 16 players, the match was confined to table eight, which was not able to be watched in the UK, but the Magician didn't mind that his tricks were not on show. 'I couldn't care less what table I play on, I'm delighted just to play snooker, whether it's table one or table 10,' he said. 'When you look at the people in competition this afternoon with Judd, Mark [Selby], Neil [Robertson], Stuart Bingham, John Higgins, everybody's got to go somewhere! It doesn't matter what table you play on, you've got to get the ball in the pocket wherever it is.' Murphy's win over the Thai star has set up a clash with Mark Williams after the Welshman beat Yuan Sijun 5-3 in his opening contest. The three-time world champion was in the World Championship final last season at 50 years old, further cementing his legendary career, with Murphy rating him among the very best in the history of the sport. 'He's right up there, despite his very self-deprecating view on his career,' said the Magician. 'Whether he likes it or not he's an all-time legend and on his day he still beats anybody.' Williams and Murphy meet on Wednesday in the last 16 in Jeddah when Oliver Lines will take on Ali Carter after his huge upset win over Judd Trump. More Trending Neil Robertson and Mark Selby will meet in a blockbuster clash and Elliot Slessor faces Stuart Bingham. The remaining last 32 games are on Tuesday evening as Ronnie O'Sullivan plays Joe O'Connor, Zhao Xintong takes on Steven Hallworth, Kyren Wilson faces Iulian Boiko, Mark Allen meets Chang Bingyu. Si Jiahui and Wu Yize play an all-Chinese affair, Chris Wakelin faces Farakh Ajaib, Barry Hawkins faces Farakh Ajaib and Ding Junhui meets Stephen Maguire. Whyte hasn't set foot inside the ring since his seventh-round stoppage of Ebenezer Tetteh last December. The fan favourite tipped the scales at a whopping 18 stone, six pounds (261lbs) in his second outing since his third career failed drug test in the summer of 2023. 4 A win over Itauma will breathe new life into Dilian Whyte's career Credit: GETTY Whyte was cleared to resume his career in March 2024 following an investigation from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The TDLR deemed Whyte's anti-doping violation to be the result of a contaminated supplement. Whyte, however, has yet to publicly reveal the banned substance he tested positive for or the supplement which led to his most recent failed test. But one thing's for sure, judging from his trimmer frame, Whyte will be considerably lighter in his Kingdom clash with lightning-fast southpaw Itauma than he was for his December dust-up with Tetteh.
