Luzerne Foundation's Nonprofit Forum provides $165,000 to 30 area nonprofits

Yahoo04-04-2025
Apr. 3—KINGSTON — David Pedri, president and CEO of the Luzerne Foundation, on Thursday said there are many areas of need at each nonprofit organization that are vital to having a safe, happy and healthy community.
"The Luzerne Foundation is proud to support these great organizations that are helping others here every day in Northeastern Pennsylvania," Pedri said.
The Luzerne Foundation held its annual Nonprofit Forum on Thursday at the Sidney and Pauline Friedman Jewish Community Center in Kingston.
The forum provides $165,000 to area nonprofits in grants.
Pedri said 30 local nonprofit organizations offered presentations to the Board of Directors of the Luzerne Foundation. Each nonprofit will receive at least a $5,000 grant and three will receive a $10,000 grant, which will be announced next week.
"The Nonprofit Forum allows many different types of nonprofits to tell their story, ranging from larger nonprofits such as the FM Kirby Center and Luzerne County Head Start, to small organizations run completely by volunteers such as TWIGS Restoration Ministry," Pedri said.
The Luzerne Foundation received more than 80 grant applications for the Nonprofit Forum, which had to be pared down through an approval process. The Luzerne Foundation also invited other local foundations to sit and listen to Thursday's presentations in hopes that there would be a project they could collaborate on together.
"A rising tide lifts all boats and having our other foundation partners at the table is a key piece of how we will continue to move Northeastern Pennsylvania forward," Pedri said.
Each nonprofit was also provided with a free ticket to the Luzerne Foundation's Community Champion event that will be held next week at the Westmoreland Club where the three $10,000 winners will be announced.

Sporting director reveals Barcelona negotiations for Alexander Isak

Barcelona have had to be smart in the transfer market over the last five years due to their well-documented financial problems. Signing players ahead of the curve is essential, and that's exactly that they did with Pedri. The midfielder, who has developed into one of the world's best in his position, was signed in 2020 as a 17-year-old. It was a risk taken at the time, but it was one that has certainly paid off. And it was made by then-sporting director Ramon Planes, who spoke on the Spain international during an interview with Sport. 'I was told about a young player at Las Palmas whose level was head and shoulders above the rest of his teammates. We watched him for three matches and it was enough – we knew. We decided to sign him, even though we rarely go for players that young. That player was Pedri. My team and I simply trusted our gut.' ImagePlanes opens up on Barcelona pursuit of Alexander Isak Planes, who was at Barcelona between 2018 and 2021, also revealed that Alexander Isak, who is currently being pursued by Liverpool as part of a deal with Newcastle United that would cost well in excess of €120m, could have made the move to the Spotify Camp Nou when he was still at Real Sociedad. 'We had been trying to find a replacement in such a difficult position for a long time. Now I find it funny when they talk about Isak, who is in some negotiation and with a very important offer from Liverpool. A player with whom we were talking with his agent. He was at La Real and our idea was to look for a replacement for Luis (Suarez), in that he would be a squad player at first before becoming a regular starter. 'This process of change was natural, but well, it couldn't be, but I do think it's key in clubs to know that players can leave at the right time and that the entry of the new generations is in a clean way.'

FC Barcelona Star Araujo Makes Decision On Potential Exit

FC Barcelona center back Ronald Araujo has made a decision on whether to stay at the club according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources. The Uruguayan is getting ready to start his first preseason campaign under Hansi Flick. This time last year, when the German had not long since taken over the reins from fired club legend Xavi Hernandez. This was because Araujo picked up an injury in his country's Copa America quarterfinal win over Raphinha's Brazil, which required him to have surgery and not make his debut under Flick until January 25. Around the time, Araujo was heavily linked with a move to Juventus, with some reports claiming that he had already told his teammates he would be off to the Old Lady. In the end, however, Araujo stayed put and signed a contract extension - though that came with a key caveat. Put simply, Araujo - like many other key first team stars such as Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Gavi - usually has a release clause exceeding $1 billion. In the first 15 days of July, however, which we're of course now well into, that drops to a more than affordable $70.6 million (€60 million). Considering its financial predicament and wealth of center backs, Barca could be tempted to sell the South American warhorse if a European rival tables his asking price. In the past, he's been linked not just with Juve but also the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich. According to SPORT, however, Araujo has evidently already made his mind up when it comes to his future and possibly moving on, demonstrating that his 'involvement is total' in Flick's sporting project while he 'wants to be a very important part of it as he has been since he arrived at the first team' in 2019. Araujo wants to stay at FC Barcelona Expressing this 'every time he has had the opportunity to do so', Araujo wishes to stay put at FC Barcelona. He has even cut his holidays short to already start training for the upcoming 2025/2026 Barca will start as defending treble champions of Spain, and appears to be relishing positional rivalry with Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez.
