Asif Ali opens up about being bedridden and wheelchair-bound during Tikitaka shoot: 'Cried like a child...'
In his note, Asif Ali spoke about playing the character of John Denver in Tikitaka. He described Denver as a fighter—resilient, determined, and never willing to give up. Interestingly, the actor said that his own journey while working on the film mirrored the struggles of his character.
The Rekhachithram actor revealed that Tikitaka demanded immense physical effort. He had to undergo months of training and physical transformation to fit the role.
"When we started rolling in 2023, an unfortunate accident hit me during fight training, followed by bedridden days, several weeks on a wheelchair, and the worst part-losing all the progress I had made over a year to prepare for the character. Unlike John Denver, I cried like a child on the hospital bed," added Asif Ali.
Now, nearly 18 months later, filming has resumed. Asif Ali is once again giving it his all, even while recovering from meniscus and ligament tears. He said that Tikitaka would be released by the end of the year and described it as a high-energy film made with great conviction.
He added that while Malayalam cinema is currently thriving, this film aims to give audiences a new kind of mass entertainer. Asif Ali concluded his note by thanking fans for their support and expressed hope for continued encouragement from cinema lovers.

'Mahatma Gandhi is not just a memory of the past, he is of relevance at the present,' said writer and orator Sunil P. Ilayidam, while addressing a session on 'Gandhi, Guru and Society' at the ongoing International Literature Festival of Kerala at Kerala Sahitya Akademi on Tuesday. 'From its very beginning, nationalism carried a vedic and brahmanical overtone, and the seeds of religious nationalism were sown as early as the first decades of the 19th century,' Mr. Ilayidam observed. 'Gandhi was an organic philosopher who addressed the material problems of human life.' The day's sessions witnessed vibrant poetry readings, with contemporary poets bringing their latest works to life through rhythm and melody. The recitals, chaired by veteran poet Raavunni, left the audience enthralled. Among those who participated were S. Kalesh, M.B. Manoj, Shailan, Vinod Vaishakhi, M.S. Banesh, Divakaran Vishnumangalam, Sabu Kottukkal, Ashokan Marayoor, Bilu C. Narayanan, Shantan, and K.V. Sumithra. Kerala High Court Grants Interim Relief To Rapper Vedan In Rape Case
Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday granted interim relief to Malayalam rapper Hirandas Murali, popularly known as Vedan, directing that he should not be arrested until his anticipatory bail plea in a rape case is fully heard and disposed of. The relief came even as hearings on his plea continued, with the court scheduling further proceedings for Wednesday. Vedan, who has been accused of sexual assault by a woman doctor, has been absconding since the case surfaced. The Kerala Police had earlier issued a lookout notice fearing he might attempt to leave the country. According to the FIR lodged in Kochi last month, the complainant alleged that she was sexually exploited by Vedan between 2021 and 2023. The complaint also mentions that they briefly lived together. She further alleged financial exploitation, stating that in 2021, when Vedan was preparing to release his debut album, she gave him Rs 15,000 on two occasions and another Rs 8,300 to fund his train travel. Their acquaintance reportedly began over social media, but in 2023, Vedan allegedly broke off the relationship, leading to distress and prompting her to file the complaint. Two other women have also since accused the rapper of misbehaviour. Vedan, 25, rose to fame under the banner Voice of the Voiceless. He debuted in 2020 and, within the same year, gained recognition as a lyricist in hit films like Nayattu, Karam, and Manjummel Boys. His socially conscious rap style earned him a large following across Kerala. This is not his first brush with controversy. In April, Vedan was arrested along with eight others following a narcotics raid at his rented apartment near here, though he was later released on bail. Around the same time, forest officials briefly detained him after discovering a tiger's tooth on his necklace. Despite his rising popularity, the present allegations have cast a shadow over the young rapper's career, with the court's next decision on his bail plea eagerly awaited.

Manjummel Boys director Chidambaram announces new film titled Balan; first look poster out
Malayalam director Chidambaram has announced his next project after the critically acclaimed and superhit film Manjummal Boys in 2024. The new movie is titled Balan. Taking to his Instagram handle, director Chidambaran shared the first-look poster of the film. Following the success of Manjummel Boys, Director Chidambaram announced his next film Balan, featuring a new cast. The screenplay is penned by Jithy Madhavan, who made his mark with hits Romancham and Aavesham. Balan' will feature a completely fresh cast of newcomers, chosen through auditions. Balan's first look unveiled The movie is produced by Venkat K Narayana and Shailaja Desai Fenn under the banner of KVN Productions and Thespian Films. The makers have not revealed the release date of the film. The poster features a semi-naked boy who is holding a wooden stick in his right hand against a floral background. The shooting of the film has finally started, as announced by KVN Productions. The music of the movie is composed by Sushin Shyam, while the cinematography will be handled by Shyju Khalid. At the box office, the film reportedly raked in more than ₹200 crore globally. It was released in theatres in February last year. The film was released on Disney Hotstar following the theatrical release.
