Malayalam actor Asif Ali is all set to entertain audiences once again with his new film titled Tikitaka. The action-packed movie began production in 2023, but an unfortunate incident forced the shoot to be halted midway. Recently, the actor took to his social media handles to share a detailed note about the harrowing journey he experienced while working on the film.
In his note, Asif Ali spoke about playing the character of John Denver in Tikitaka. He described Denver as a fighter—resilient, determined, and never willing to give up. Interestingly, the actor said that his own journey while working on the film mirrored the struggles of his character.
The Rekhachithram actor revealed that Tikitaka demanded immense physical effort. He had to undergo months of training and physical transformation to fit the role.
"When we started rolling in 2023, an unfortunate accident hit me during fight training, followed by bedridden days, several weeks on a wheelchair, and the worst part-losing all the progress I had made over a year to prepare for the character. Unlike John Denver, I cried like a child on the hospital bed," added Asif Ali.
Now, nearly 18 months later, filming has resumed. Asif Ali is once again giving it his all, even while recovering from meniscus and ligament tears. He said that Tikitaka would be released by the end of the year and described it as a high-energy film made with great conviction.
He added that while Malayalam cinema is currently thriving, this film aims to give audiences a new kind of mass entertainer. Asif Ali concluded his note by thanking fans for their support and expressed hope for continued encouragement from cinema lovers.
Take a look at his post below:
On the work front, Asif Ali was last seen in the Malayalam family drama Sarkeet. The film was released in theaters on May 8 and featured Divya Prabha in a prominent role. Some of his recent notable works include Kishkindha Kaandam, Rekhachithram, Level Cross, and more.

Gandhi is of contemporary relevance, not just a memory: Sunil P. Ilayidam

'Mahatma Gandhi is not just a memory of the past, he is of relevance at the present,' said writer and orator Sunil P. Ilayidam, while addressing a session on 'Gandhi, Guru and Society' at the ongoing International Literature Festival of Kerala at Kerala Sahitya Akademi on Tuesday. He reflected on the historic meeting between Mahatma Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru, noting that it had deeply influenced the course of India's national movement. 'From its very beginning, nationalism carried a vedic and brahmanical overtone, and the seeds of religious nationalism were sown as early as the first decades of the 19th century,' Mr. Ilayidam observed. 'Gandhi was an organic philosopher who addressed the material problems of human life.' The day's sessions witnessed vibrant poetry readings, with contemporary poets bringing their latest works to life through rhythm and melody. The recitals, chaired by veteran poet Raavunni, left the audience enthralled. Among those who participated were S. Kalesh, M.B. Manoj, Shailan, Vinod Vaishakhi, M.S. Banesh, Divakaran Vishnumangalam, Sabu Kottukkal, Ashokan Marayoor, Bilu C. Narayanan, Shantan, and K.V. Sumithra. At the panel 'Story: Writing Experiences,' writer Isaac Eapen remarked, 'Only writers who know the tensions of the times can withstand the test of history.' Senior writer and editor P.K. Parakkadavu moderated the discussion. Writer V.H. Nishad said, 'Writers progress by preserving memories,' while V.K.K. Ramesh added, 'Only those who dare to wound the self can rise in literature.' Young short story writers Ajijesh Pachatt, Akhila K.S., and Mridul V.M. also took part. In a conversation with writer and bureaucrat Divya S. Iyer, novelist Subhash Chandran underlined the strength of artistic freedom. 'Artists are those who can stand unbowed before any power,' he said. 'Literature is an art capable of creating wonders. Malayalam, with the word kalpana (imagination), is a powerful language that merges the command of authority with the creativity of the artist.' Another session, led by writer V.S. Bindu, focused on the struggles and progress of women. 'We still have a long way to travel before reaching the new era of womanhood,' she stressed. The discussion touched upon the rise of masculinity among young men, the absence of women in frontline politics, women's representation in the media, and the larger struggles of survival. Panelists included C.S. Chandrika, K. Anushree, Jisa Jose, Sreeja Shyam, Binu G. Thampi, Drishya Padmanabhan, and Dakshina. Writers Vaisakhan, T.D. Ramakrishnan, Shinilal and Mini Prasad took part in another panel discussion titled 'Theevandi, Sahityam, Keralam.'

Kerala High Court Grants Interim Relief To Rapper Vedan In Rape Case

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday granted interim relief to Malayalam rapper Hirandas Murali, popularly known as Vedan, directing that he should not be arrested until his anticipatory bail plea in a rape case is fully heard and disposed of. The relief came even as hearings on his plea continued, with the court scheduling further proceedings for Wednesday. Vedan, who has been accused of sexual assault by a woman doctor, has been absconding since the case surfaced. The Kerala Police had earlier issued a lookout notice fearing he might attempt to leave the country. According to the FIR lodged in Kochi last month, the complainant alleged that she was sexually exploited by Vedan between 2021 and 2023. The complaint also mentions that they briefly lived together. She further alleged financial exploitation, stating that in 2021, when Vedan was preparing to release his debut album, she gave him Rs 15,000 on two occasions and another Rs 8,300 to fund his train travel. Their acquaintance reportedly began over social media, but in 2023, Vedan allegedly broke off the relationship, leading to distress and prompting her to file the complaint. Two other women have also since accused the rapper of misbehaviour. Vedan, 25, rose to fame under the banner Voice of the Voiceless. He debuted in 2020 and, within the same year, gained recognition as a lyricist in hit films like Nayattu, Karam, and Manjummel Boys. His socially conscious rap style earned him a large following across Kerala. This is not his first brush with controversy. In April, Vedan was arrested along with eight others following a narcotics raid at his rented apartment near here, though he was later released on bail. Around the same time, forest officials briefly detained him after discovering a tiger's tooth on his necklace. Despite his rising popularity, the present allegations have cast a shadow over the young rapper's career, with the court's next decision on his bail plea eagerly awaited.
