Kaizer Chiefs take on Ghanaian giants in 2025 Toyota Cup
As such, the Toyota Cup fixture brings together two African clubs with proud legacies and passionate fanbases. The first-ever Toyota Cup took place last year (2024) between Kaizer Chiefs and Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC. Bloemfontein Stadium was sold out and showcased the enduring enthusiasm for cross-continental club clashes. Asante Kotoko SC is one of Africa's most decorated clubs with 50 official trophies, including two CAF Champions League titles. Better still, the SABC is on board to televise the highly anticipated 2025 Toyota Cup to supporters all across the continent.
'We're honoured to welcome our friends from Ghana to South African soil this month. The 2025 Toyota Cup allows Africa to unite through football and celebrate a shared legacy. We chose Durban not only because it is the manufacturing hub of Toyota South Africa, but because it's the perfect place to write the next chapter for Kaizer Chiefs,' says the club's Marketing and Commercial Director, Jessica Motaung. 'Football is a powerful bridge between people and nations, and the Toyota Cup is a celebration of African unity. We commend Toyota South Africa and Kaizer Chiefs for setting the standard for what African football can be,' says Edmund Awuah Asafu-Adjaye, Chairman of Asante Kotoko SC.
Besides the main event, there will be a music concert starting at 10h00. Then there will be a curtain-raiser game between the Kaizer Chiefs Legends and Zulu Kingdom Legends at 12h00. You can see the likes of Doctor Khumalo, Sibusiso Zuma, Jabu Mahlangu, Delron Buckley and more on the pitch again. Only ticket holders will be eligible to win a new car at the event. Image: File
Even though the 2025 Toyota Cup will be aired live and for free by the SABC, you're going to want to secure tickets for this one. Tickets went on sale last week for R80 and are available at Shoprite, Checkers, and Usave outlets nationwide. Ticket holders can SMS their name, surname and ticket number to 48952 to stand a chance of winning a brand-new Toyota Starlet. The winner of the car will be given away live during the 2025 Toyota Cup halftime show.

Sunshine, good racing cheer Durban July crowd
Facelifted Greyville venue dazzles racegoers. Greyville was all set for the 2025 running of the Durban July. Picture: Darren Stewart/Gallo Images Tens of thousands of racegoers were blown away by a facelifted Greyville as they filled the venue for the 2025 Hollywoodbets Durban July race meeting. The sun shone brightly on the historic racecourse as veteran July attendees chatted about the massive infrastructure upgrade at the course, with phrases like 'brand new', 'paradigm shift' and 'exciting new era for racing' being exchanged. Greyville and KwaZulu-Natal horse racing have been taken over by the Hollywood group, which has pumped in many millions of rands into newly named operator Race Coast to bring fading facilities up international standards. Lighting around the circuit has been renewed, with LED technology that is cheaper, brighter and capable of staging spectacular light shows. The Polytrack has been relaid, New seating, paving, fencing, video screens and grand entranceways have been erected, And there's plenty more. Fashion was sharply in focus in the early stages of the meeting – with top designers vying for lucrative prizes under the theme 'Marvels of Mzanzi'. Animal prints, African prints, horses' heads, even military-style outfits, were much in evidence. The Hollywoodbets Durban July is a vitally important event for KwaZulu-Natal and the rescue of the floundering enterprise earlier this year has been a godsend for the province and the host city. A huge injection for the city Economic benefits of the July are huge, with 50,000 visitors to the historic event pushing hotel occupancy to 'choc-a-bloc' levels, according to Musa Zondi, KZN MEC of tourism, who circulated among racing personalities in the parade ring. eThekwini Mayor Cyril Xaba said: 'It will bring into the city over R278-million direct spend and over R700-million investment into our GDP.' For serious horse players, however, the day got off to a slightly ominous start with well-backed horses flopping in the first three races. Race 1 went to Rugger Lover, a 14-1 shot trained locally by Tienie Prinsloo. Race 2 winner That's My Baby, from Sean Tarry's Joburg yard, landed at 10-1, with hot favourite Princess Hannah running down the drain after starting badly. When 25-2 chance Otto Luyken did the job for raiding Cape trainer James Crawford in Race 3, punters were worried a rough day loomed for favourites. But the mood lifted with the arrival of the favourites in Races 4 and 5 – the first two legs of a Pick 6 that boasted a R13.5-million pool. The Grade 3 3000m Gold Vase went to King Pelles for jockey S'manga Khumalo and trainer Gareth van Zyl, and the Grade 2 Golden Slipper to Eastern Cape raider Anotherdanceforme for Richard Fourie and Alan Greeff. There was drama when an objection was lodged against Anotherdanceforme by the connections of second-placed Quickstepgal on grounds of the filly being hampered in the closing stages. The stipendiary stewards overruled the appeal. The sixth on the card was a bit of a hiccup for Pick 6 and Jackpot investors with … shot Chronicle King popping up in a rough-and-tumble race. But, by then, the champagne and other libations were flowing and the crowd was in high spirits.

Kaizer Chiefs news: Transfer frustrations mount, Striker joins squad
Kaizer Chiefs fans are growing increasingly anxious as the transfer window edges closer to closing without a major marquee signing. While local rivals Orlando Pirates have already bolstered their ranks with several top players, Amakhosi's activity has been slower, raising questions about the club's recruitment strategy. Despite these frustrations, Kaizer Chiefs recently confirmed the signing of Flavio Silva, a promising striker who joins the club with hopes of injecting new energy into their attack. Silva's arrival signals that the club is committed to strengthening the forward line, even if bigger names remain elusive. Image: FootballSA/ Facebook In addition to Silva, Kaizer Chiefs are looking to their youth academy to supplement the first team. Naledi Hlongwane, a rising star from the Developmental Division, has been promoted to the senior squad and is expected to be given opportunities in the upcoming season. Sources reveal that the club is still on the lookout for at least one more experienced striker to complement Silva and Hlongwane. However, the price tags on top African forwards like Michael Olunga and Fiston Mayele have made negotiations difficult. Jessica Motaung, the club's director of football, recently addressed these concerns. 'We are working closely with the technical and sporting departments to identify and sign players who fit the team's style and ambitions,' she said. Motaung emphasized the importance of patience, reminding fans that the transfer window remains open and signings can still happen before the new season begins. As the new campaign approaches, Kaizer Chiefs supporters will be watching closely to see if their club can finalize key additions to match their rivals' impressive recruitment.
