SINGAPORE: Singaporeans and residents can enjoy cashback when they spend at hawker stalls and heartland shops using the DBS Paylah app every Saturday from July 12 to Sept 27.
The first 160,000 people who scan and pay with PayLah at over 22,000 participating hawker stalls, wet markets and heartland shops from 8am during this period can receive up to S$3 cashback.
The move is part of the DBS/POSB's latest slew of benefits to bolster customer savings and commemorate Singapore's 60th birthday, the bank said in a statement on Sunday (June 29).
Participating shops and stalls will display a POSB Support Our Heartland Shops wobbler – a round tag attached to a strip – and hawker stalls that are SGQR code-enabled will put up a PayLah Scan to Pay sticker.
Over the next three months, the bank will offer some two million cashback rewards that Singaporeans and residents can redeem for their purchases in the heartlands via DBS PayLah.
In addition, POSB debit and credit cardmembers can enjoy new $0.60 meal deals at participating food and beverage outlets from July 1 to Sept 30. Fast food brand KFC will be offering $6 set meals, valid while stocks last. These deals are available via the POSB Everyday Card and PAssion POSB Debit Card.
From Aug 1, DBS/POSB credit cardmembers can redeem their DBS Points and POSB Daily$ for new DBS Rewards Flexi eVouchers on PayLah and spend them at any merchant with a valid Nets SGQR code.
From Aug 1 to Sept 30, DBS cardmembers who redeem 6,000 DBS Points in exchange for a SGD 60 DBS Rewards Flexi eVoucher will receive an additional $60 cashback.
'The positive reception to our PayLah weekly cashback initiative has been encouraging. We are grateful for our customers' steadfast support over the years and believe that bringing back this initiative for SG60 further reaffirms our commitment to standing by them and driving inclusive growth of our heartlands,' said Lim Him Chuan, Singapore country head at DBS.
'Through our entire suite of support measures, we seek to ease living and business costs, as well as enhance the well-being of our society by making everyday moments a little more special and meaningful for everyone.'
Today, over 70 per cent of payments made via PayLah Scan to Pay are for food and groceries from heartland shops and hawker stalls, said the bank, adding that among those who redeemed the cashback rewards, 39 per cent were senior citizens and/or earning less than $2,500 a month.
Participating hawkers, wet market stallholders and heartland merchants also saw their weekend earnings increase by about 40 per cent via PayLah transactions.
Marina Bay experiences
DBS/POSB also announced that members of the public can sign up for complimentary sunset sail rides in Marina Bay to enjoy the iconic city skyline every Friday evening from September.
This is in addition to the day sailing sessions available five days a week, which are also free and open to the public. Slots for the rides, which are released monthly, are limited.
Every weekend, the public can also enjoy free programmes that showcase Singaporean music, poetry and films at the DBS Foundation Outdoor Theatre at the Esplanade.
The bank said that throughout the year, it will continue to revitalise local neighbourhoods through its POSB Support Our Heartlands community engagement efforts.
These include scaling digital and financial literacy carnivals and getai roadshows to more neighbourhoods, as well as ensuring that digital, anti-scam awareness and financial literacy education is more accessible and convenient for everyone, it said. - The Straits Times/ANN

RTS Link crucial to Johor-Singapore economic zone, says Transport Minister
SINGAPORE: The Rapid Transit System Link (RTS Link) is a crucial component of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke. The project is not just ordinary infrastructure, as it signifies the strong friendship, trust, and mutual respect between Malaysia and Singapore. "The RTS Link is a major component of JS-SEZ. Without this link, I am sure it will not be as interesting as it is today," he said during a joint press conference with Singapore's acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow on Monday (June 30). Earlier, both ministers unveiled the new RTS Link train at the Singapore Rail Test Centre near Tuas. With this new milestone, Loke said the project has entered its final 18 months before the completion and commencement of service for the link. "We are not just unveiling a new train today. What it represents is two nations coming together. As people around the world are busy setting up barriers, here we are breaking down barriers, building more connectivity and bridges," he said. Meanwhile, his counterpart Siow expressed that the project was close to his heart as he was involved in the conceptualisation process back when he was a civil servant. "I am happy to see the link emerge after the agreement was signed by Malaysia and Singapore eight years ago. Be it travel for visiting the sights, work or staying connected with loved ones, this link will bring Singaporeans and Malaysians closer," he added. The rail service will see a train frequency of every 3.6 minutes for the shortest interval. When completed, RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North in Singapore. It will facilitate the commute between Singapore and Johor Bahru, with a train journey time of about five minutes between the two stations. The RTS Link is targeted to commence passenger service by December 2026.
