The Philadelphia 76ers gave T.J. McConnell a chance to live his dream of playing in the NBA after he went undrafted. He played for the Sixers during the first four years of his career and earned the love and respect of the fans.
McConnell hasn't played for Philly since the first four years of his career ended. However, he still has a lot of love for the fanbase even though he's playing for the Indiana Pacers. The 6-foot-1 point guard said Sixer fans approach him from time to time to show their respect.

"That crowd. Playing in front of them, it was pretty incredible," McConnell said. "People to this day just walking anywhere, 'We miss you in Philly.' They show a lot of love so I got a lot of love for the fans of Philadelphia for sure."
During McConnell's time with the team, he averaged 6.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists. The veteran guard was mostly a reserve player for the first four years of his career. The undrafted player's time with the Sixers helped him become a solid backup point guard.

At that time, the Sixers were forming the team around All-Star big man Joel Embiid. McConnell was part of "The Process," with players like Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler and more. Unfortunately for Philly, they didn't have a notable achievement during their time together.
Now, McConnell is the consistent backup point guard to Tyrese Haliburton with the Pacers. The 33-year-old guard has been with the franchise for six seasons, averaging 8.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists.

Don Nelson to Wear Luka Shoes in Protest of Mavs Trade

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Although the NBA Finals are underway and Game 1 was a doozy, many are still pondering the massive trade that preceded prior to the deadline between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers. The trade between the two was one that no one saw coming and one that shocked the entire sports world. The Mavericks decided to trade superstar and five-time All-NBA guard Luka Doncic to the Lakers. Doncic had just led the Mavericks to the Finals in 2024; however, the front office didn't believe he could be the guy to lead them to the next level, hence the trade. While time has passed on the trade, there are some who cannot believe the Mavericks could give up on a player like Doncic, including NBA Hall of Famer Don Nelson. Nelson revealed he'll be honored with the 2025 Chuck Daly Lifetime Achievement Award and shared that he plans to wear Luka Doncic's signature sneakers in silent protest of the midseason trade that sent the Slovenian star from the Dallas Mavericks to the Los Angeles Lakers. Photo byDon Nelson quote to @TheSteinLine about the 'protest' of the Luka trade he's staging tonight — DLLS Mavs (@DLLS_Mavs) June 8, 2025 "Luka is my dear friend," Nelson said, "I'm going to wear a pair of his new shoes. I wanted to mention that." "My philosophy was always, when you've got a great player, he's yours for a lifetime. You don't get rid of great players. When that happened, I was pretty disappointed." Nelson will likely be sporting Luka 4 shoes. The 85-year-old spent almost a decade with the Mavericks organization as head coach of the team from 1997-2005. Nelson's son, Donnie, was part of the Mavericks organization and played a role in the team's trade for Doncic during the 2018 NBA Draft. The Mavericks shocked the sports world when they decided to trade him to the Lakers. Many were not only upset about the trade, but also about the fact that the Mavericks didn't receive the best possible package in return for him. The trade itself is indefensible from the Mavericks' side — but for the Lakers, it's the kind of move you make every single time without hesitation. Even with Dallas landing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, parting ways with Doncic remains a head-scratcher for many, including Nelson, who has made his stance on the deal crystal clear. Ranking 3 best Julius Randle free-agency destinations if he leaves Timberwolves

The post Ranking 3 best Julius Randle free-agency destinations if he leaves Timberwolves appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Minnesota Timberwolves will do their best to return all of Julius Randle, Naz Reid, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker this offseason, but one or more of those potential free agents seem likely to walk in free agency. Alexander-Walker is an unrestricted free agent, whereas Randle and Reid have player options on their contracts. Advertisement Reid will likely decline his option and pursue a big deal, but there is a good chance that Randle will accept his option and return to Minnesota because he is slated to make over $30 million next season. That makes him the most likely to return to the Timberwolves next season of those potential free agents. Even so, it is far from a guarantee that Randle will be suiting up for the Timberwolves again. The power forward thrived in the postseason and helped get Minnesota into the Western Conference Finals for the second straight season. The bruising big man is a polarizing player due to his questionable shot selection and streaky efficiency, but he is clearly an asset. It is possible that he'd find a big payday on the open market. So if Randle were to leave the Timberwolves, what are his best free-agent fits? 1. Julius Randle to the Nets The Brooklyn Nets want to go star hunting this offseason, and they've been linked to Giannis Antetokounmpo. A trade for the two-time MVP will be easier said than done, especially because Brooklyn would have to fork over a lot of talent in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks. Advertisement Instead, the Nets could find their star in free agency in the form of Randle. While the power forward from Kentucky isn't an All-NBA caliber player, he has actually made three All-Star Games. Randle has averaged as much as 25.1 points per game in a season, and he would be free to get up plenty of shots in Brooklyn. Randle can hit jump shots, get buckets inside off of post-ups, and score off the bounce. He alone might not be enough to turn the Nets into a playoff team, but Brooklyn has more projected cap space than any other team. The Nets could outbid everybody for Randle's services and still have enough room to make another big deal. 2. Julius Randle to the Hornets The Charlotte Hornets have talent on their roster. LaMelo Ball is elite when he is healthy. Miles Bridges is one of the best dunkers in the NBA, and Brandon Miller and Tidjane Salaun are recent high draft picks with tons of potential. Even Mark Williams impressed after returning to the Hornets because of a failed physical after the team tried to trade him to the Lakers. Advertisement That hasn't translated into wins, though. Randle is a gritty player and veteran leader who could push the Hornets in the right direction. Randle has experience turning bad teams into good ones. The Lakers were horrible when they drafted him, but they got better and better while he was with the team. The same can be said about his time with the New York Knicks. Randle even got the Timberwolves into the Western Conference Finals after many criticized the team for trading Karl-Anthony Towns for him. Randle will be 31 years old next season, so he doesn't fit the Hornets' timeline perfectly. The team needs a boost to get to the next level, though. Randle always plays hard, and his attitude could rub off on a team that has struggled with culture in recent years. 3. Julius Randle to the Spurs Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports Victor Wembanyama is a unicorn. The former first overall pick stands 7-feet-4-inches tall, but he is also incredibly skinny. That hasn't negatively affected the San Antonio Spurs star so far in his young career. Advertisement Wembanyama would have won the Defensive Player of the Year award had his season not ended early due to blood clotting, and he still managed to lead the league in blocks despite not playing after the All-Star Weekend. Even so, pairing Wembanyama with a meaty and strong player like Randle makes sense. Randle uses a bully ball style of play that would perfectly complement Wembanyama's finesse game. Opponents that go at Randle are met by a brick wall, but Wembanyama is too lanky to be scored on very often. Opposing teams wouldn't have a lot of options when facing the Spurs if they signed Randle. The Spurs are well on their way to contending for a title. Fans haven't seen much of Wembanyama with his new point guard yet. The team traded for De'Aaron Fox last year, and his speed and clutch ability give the team a great star duo. Stephon Castle is also coming off a Rookie of the Year campaign, and the team even holds two lottery picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, including the second overall pick. The team is on the right trajectory, but the addition of Randle would catapult them into contention.

Multiple Sixers stars give birthday love to legendary Allen Iverson

For 722 games over 12 seasons, Allen Iverson dazzled the fans in the city of Philadelphia. He threw the 76ers on his back averaging 27.6 points, 6.1 assists, and 3.9 rebounds while winning MVP in 2001 and guiding the Sixers to their last finals appearance in the same season. The man they call "The Answer" provided one on a nightly basis leading the Sixers to improbable wins and deep runs into the playoffs. No matter what ailment he was dealing with. No matter how his body was feeling. No matter what was going on with him personally. Iverson showed up to play and gave it his all every night. Advertisement On his 50th birthday, Sixers stars Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey were included in a video as they gave their own personal birthday messages to Iverson. Sixers star Paul George included a birthday message to Iverson from "Podcast P with Paul George". He and former Sixers guard Lou Williams, a teammate of Iverson's, had some love for The Answer on the episode. It's always good to see the Sixers honor their franchise legends properly.
