Haason Reddick Speaks Out On Buccaneers QB

Haason Reddick Speaks Out On Buccaneers QB originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers edge rusher Haason Reddick knows how good Baker Mayfield is. Even before he signed a one-year deal to join the Bucs, Reddick had gotten a personal look at how deadly the former first-overall pick could be.

As Tampa Bay's franchise quarterback, Mayfield has already destroyed one of Reddick's defenses. During the 2023 playoffs, Mayfield's Buccaneers destroyed Reddick's Eagles by a 32-9 score.
Two years later, the two are now on the same side, and Mayfield is already impressing Reddick.
Following last week's minicamp, Reddick spoke glowingly about Mayfield as a quarterback and leader.
"A warrior. A hard-fought guy. I respect Baker a lot because he's another person in this league who has had ups and downs and continues striving to be as great as he wants to be or strives for greatness," Reddick said. "I have tremendous respect for him. I love his game. I do think he has a warrior's mentality and I think he's one of the QBs in this league that's on the more physical end."
Mayfield is a former top overall pick with plenty of playoff experience. He was the first quarterback to win a playoff game for the Cleveland Browns after they returned to the league in 1999.

He has now become the face of the Buccaneers thanks to two straight division titles in the NFC South behind him.
Reddick knows Mayfield well. While the two have had plenty of battles in recent seasons, they are both on the same team and trying to win a Super Bowl together.
If Mayfield's toughness is any indication, the Buccaneers are closer than people realize to that mark.

Cowboys 'Jaded' Fans Wonder What's A 'Successful' Season In 2025?

Cowboys 'Jaded' Fans Wonder What's A 'Successful' Season In 2025? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. High expectations can sink a team quicker than just about anything, and for the Brian Schottenheimer-led Dallas Cowboys, high expectations aren't exactly new. Advertisement Granted, this will be a new-look team, with several new faces on both sides of the ball, coupled with an overhauled coaching staff. As a result, Dallas will look a little different in 2025. But the expectation will remain the same - to win the Super Bowl. Now, is that realistic? Even the most hardened Cowboys fan will struggle to say yes to that. Still, success can be defined in other ways, because if you base whether Schottenheimer and Dallas have a good season on whether they win the Super Bowl or not, you might need to adjust your expectations. But what about making the playoffs? Or better yet, winning a playoff game? Advertisement Matt Verderame, playoff success is step one for Schotty. "For Schottenheimer and the Cowboys, this can only be a successful season if it involves a trip to the postseason, and preferably one that includes advancement," Verderame writes. "Otherwise, it's more of the same for a fan base growing increasingly jaded and impatient." Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Davis-Imagn Images We're not sure any national writer can have the pulse of an entire "jaded'' fan base. Let's talk about the now ... Right now, given the state of the NFC and the division, if Dallas makes the playoffs, it would mean Schottenheimer and Co. have acquitted themselves well in the NFC East with the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders. Advertisement Plus, it would see the Cowboys navigate a brutal stretch of games that includes the Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Chargers, and Commanders. We think Cowboys fans, for the moment, would take that. However, let's remember that Schotty will have more than a year to get this thing properly rolling. Nevertheless, there can be no 7-10 season; there has to be progression. Yes, a Super Bowl would be nice, but given where this team is, given the roster and the changes that have happened over the past six months, making the playoffs and sneaking a win would be a good return. Advertisement And for some, give Schotty a pass mark in Year 1. Tight end Travis Kelce, franchised guard Trey Smith attend Chiefs minicamp

Associated Press KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Four-time All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce and Pro Bowl right guard Trey Smith, who skipped voluntary workouts after receiving the franchise tag, were present for the start of the Kansas City Chiefs' mandatory three-day minicamp Tuesday. Kelce also was absent for the voluntary workouts that had been open to reporters in recent weeks. Smith is hoping to land a long-term contract with the Chiefs, who chose him in the sixth round of the 2021 draft, when his stock had plummeted amid health concerns. He has far outplayed that draft positioning, though, and that is why the Chiefs gave him the franchise tag — essentially a $23.4 million guaranteed salary for the upcoming season. Smith and the Chiefs have until mid-July to work out a new contract, otherwise he will play the season on the one-year deal. Smith was not made available to reporters Tuesday, but the fact that he reported to the mandatory minicamp — rather than risk a potential fine — was noteworthy. Two years ago, defensive tackle Chris Jones held out all summer and into the start of the regular season before eventually agreeing to a contract with Kansas City. 'It's good (Smith) didn't take my approach,' Jones quipped. 'He shouldn't take advice from me.' While the Chiefs worked through several lineups during the roughly 90-minute session, Smith's decision to report did give them an opportunity to see what their revamped offensive line could look like this upcoming season. After they struggled to protect Patrick Mahomes for most of last season, and especially during a lopsided Super Bowl loss to the Eagles, the Chiefs began the makeover by trading two-time All-Pro left guard Joe Thuney to the Bears for a draft pick in March. The Chiefs proceeded to draft Josh Simmons, an offensive tackle from Ohio State, with the final pick in the first round. Simmons was widely considered the top tackle available, but he was coming off a knee injury that caused him to slip to the 32nd overall pick. The Chiefs were confident in their medical workup on him, though, and that gamble appears to be paying off: He was on the field and moving around well during the start of the minicamp. 'Just trying to be available as I can right now,' he said. It's unclear whether Simmons will be a full participant when training camp begins in late July, but things appear to be trending in that direction. And that raises hopes around Kansas City that Mahomes will finally have a capable blind-side protector. 'I wanted to be able to throw the pads on ASAP,' Simmons said. 'Whatever the staff allows me to do, I'm definitely going to do.' Meanwhile, the Chiefs are hopeful that second-year pro Kingsley Suamataia can continue his transition from tackle to guard, and take Thuney's place alongside Simmons on the left side of the line. And when they are joined by All-Pro center Creed Humphrey, Smith at right guard and veteran Jawaan Taylor at right tackle, the Chiefs could have their best offensive line in years. ___ AP NFL: recommended

Ryan Williams Makes Surprising Admission About First Season at Alabama

Ryan Williams Makes Surprising Admission About First Season at Alabama originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Ryan Williams introduced himself to the college football world last season. The Alabama Crimson Tide receiver earned freshman All-American honors from 247Sports, On3, and Pro Football Focus. Somehow, he's still not satisfied with what he was able to accomplish. Advertisement Williams spoke to On3's Andy Staples last week about his experience at the cover photo shoot for EA College Football 26. He appears on that video game's front alongside Ohio State Buckeyes star Jeremiah Smith, who also entered the limelight as a true freshman. "Whenever we were in Pasadena, of course, we talked about last season and him winning a national championship," Williams said. "I was super happy for him. But we both agreed that, although last year was super fun, super great and we both had very good freshmen seasons, we left a lot on the table. And we both agreed on that. "Just with that experience from last season, we're super excited (about) what's to come this season." Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Ryan Williams© John David Mercer-Imagn Images Williams, a first-team All-SEC honoree, paced Kalen DeBoer's Crimson Tide with 865 receiving yards and eight touchdown grabs. Only Germie Bernard had more catches (50) than Williams (48). That pair will catch passes from either Ty Simpson, Keelon Russell, or Austin Mack this upcoming season. Advertisement To surpass DeVonta Smith and become the greatest all-time statistical pass-catcher at Alabama, Williams will need to average 94 receptions, over 1,550 receiving yards, and north of 19 touchdowns over the next two go-rounds. That's also assuming that Williams will declare for the NFL Draft after his junior campaign.
