UFC Kansas City: What Time Does Tonight's Fight Card Start?
The headlining bout of the UFC Kansas City event sees Ian Machado Garry (15-1), who is looking to rebound from his first career loss, against Carlos Prates (21-6) , a man who is 4-0 with the UFC. Prates is not only undefeated during his UFC run, which began in February 2024, he has four knockout wins and four 'Performance of the Night' bonuses. None of Prates's UFC contests have gone past the second round. Machado Garry had an 8-0 promotional record heading into his UFC 310 bout opposite Shavkat Rakhmonov. Rakhmonov won that contest via unanimous decision. Machado Garry has three finishes with the UFC, all knockouts. His past four fights have gone the distance.
The UFC Fight Night co-main event sees former UFC light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith (38-21) facing Zhang Mingyang (18-6) at 205 pounds. Smith has announced his plans to retire following tonight's event. He enters the card on a two-fight losing skid. Mingyang is 2-0 in the UFC with two first-round knockout wins and two fight-night bonuses.

Ian Machado Garry (15-1) has an 8-1 record under the UFC banner. The 27-year-old has five decisions and three knockouts. In June 2024, Machado Garry defeated Michael 'Venom' Page at UFC 303 to earn his eighth straight win under the UFC banner. However, he tasted defeat in his next outing, dropping a decision to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310.
Machado Garry initially came across as a Conor McGregor clone, but the confident Irish fighter has found his own personality as a competitor who is more than willing to take on the toughest the competitors the UFC can book him against, something he did again in accepting this fight on short notice.
Machado Garry is the No. 7 ranked UFC welterweight.
Carlos Prates (21-6) joined the UFC in 2023 with a knockout win on a Dana White's Contender Series card. Since then, the 31-year-old has gone 4-0 with the UFC, winning each of those fights by knockout. Prates also earned performance bonuses for each of his four knockouts. In his most recent outings, Prates scored an August 2024 stoppage of Li Jingliang before moving on to defeat Neal Magny via TKO on a UFC Fight Night Card in November.
Prates, a member of The Fighting Nerds team, is on an 11-fight winning streak overall.
The UFC had Prates booked to face Geoff Neal at UFC 314, but that fight fell apart when Neal withdrew from the contest in late March. With that, Prates was moved to the top of this fight card when Garry agreed to face him on short notice.
Prates is the No. 13 fighter in the UFC's official 170-pound rankings.

Cachoeira had been keeping her hands down and Edwards made her pay in a big way for the first bonus of her career. Performance of the Night: Elijah Smith Elijah Smith (9-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) delivered one of the scariest knockouts in recent memory when he slammed Toshiomi Kazama (11-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) onto the back of his head and neck in the first round on the prelims. Kazama was holding on to a choke, and Smith slammed his way out and right into a devastating win. Kazama was out for a while and had to be transported to a hospital, where he eventually was given the all clear. Performance of the Night: Christian Leroy Duncan Christian Leroy Duncan (12-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) had a couple early issues against Eryk Anders (17-9 MMA, 9-9 UFC) when he caught him in the eye, then hit him with a low blow. But after he settled down, Duncan went to work putting Anders away with a feverish assault. Performance of the Night: Anthony Hernandez Anthony Hernandez (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) made Roman Dolidze (15-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) look positively outclassed in the middleweight main event. 'Fluffy' at times seemed to be able to ragdoll Dolidze around the cage, particularly at the end when he had a standing rear-naked choke – and started dragging Dolidze with it while he quickly got the tap. Hernandez said he wants a title shot next, or at minimum a 'BMF' title fight at 185 pounds.

UFC on ESPN 72 results: Anthony Hernandez taps Roman Dolidze, calls for title shot
Anthony Hernandez proved he was a level above Roman Dolidze in the UFC on ESPN 72 main event. Simply put, the fight was not close. Hernandez (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) dominated virtually every moment of the middleweight bout as Dolidze (15-4 MMA, 9-4 UFC) struggled to find any answers offensively. It all came to an end at 2:45 of Round 4 when Hernandez forced a tap from a rear-naked choke. The fight began with steady striking exchanges as Hernandez controlled the center of the cage. Dolidze took the fight to the fence in the clinch, but was unable to get the fight to the ground. Instead, it would be Hernandez to get a takedown first. He added a second a few moments later after scoring with clean striking. It was a strong opening round for Hernandez both on the feet and on the mat. The fight quickly turned into a wild brawl in Round 2. Hernandez marched forward through a firefight, talking to a retreating Dolidze. The heated exchanges lasted for a few moments, but the fight returned to the mat for scrambles. Once the fight got back to the feet, Hernandez continued teeing off on Dolidze, who did his best just to survive the round. Hernandez closed out the final seconds unloading heavy ground and pound through the horn. When referee Herb Dean intervened, Hernandez thought he won the fight and began celebrating with his team. The confusion was cleared up, and the fight continued into Round 3. "Fluffy" continued to dominate the fight on the mat. Dolidze got away with multiple fence grabs as Hernandez worked through positions. Hernandez did whatever he wanted to do as the time ticked away in a completely one-sided round. The fight reached Round 4, where Hernandez picked up right where he left off. On the feet and on the ground, Hernandez was in full control. The final sequence occurred after a takedown, where Dolidze grabbed the fence. Dean took a point without interrupting the flow, and Hernandez drilled a few knees to the head and then locked in a rear-naked choke. The squeeze was incredibly tight, and the tap came quickly. During his post-fight interview, Hernandez made his case for a middleweight title shot. "They've done a great job of matchmaking me. I want to prove that I can take the title," Hernandez told Daniel Cormier. "If it has to be a BMF title just to take a contender seat, then run it. I want a belt, I want something. I want to prove that I'm the best in the world." With the win in his second UFC main event, Hernandez extends his current winning streak to eight. His current run includes stoppages of Rodolfo Vieira, Marc-Andre Barriault, Edmen Shahbazyan, Roman Kopylov and Michel Pereira.
