APPSC Plans Major Revamp: Prelims Only If Applications Cross 200 Times The Vacancies
Last Updated: APPSC may hold prelims only if applications exceed 200 times the number of vacancies, aiming to streamline the recruitment process and reduce exam-related costs. The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) has proposed a significant change in the examination process for government job recruitments across various departments in the state. Going forward, APPSC plans to conduct the preliminary exam only if the number of applications received exceeds 200 times the number of posts notified, as per reports. For instance, if a notification is issued for 100 posts, a preliminary (prelims) exam will be held only if more than 20,000 applications are received. Otherwise, the commission may directly conduct a single-stage recruitment process or the mains exam. Currently, APPSC conducts both prelims and mains exams if the number of applications crosses 25,000, regardless of the number of vacancies. However, the Commission believes this leads to unnecessary expenditure and wastage of time. As a result, it has proposed this new filtering system to the state government. If approved, many APPSC recruitments may be conducted with just one exam instead of two. The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) is a constitutional body established under Article 315 of the Indian Constitution. It is responsible for conducting recruitment to various civil services and government posts in the State of Andhra Pradesh. Key Roles and Responsibilities: Conducting competitive examinations, interviews, and departmental tests for recruitment to state services. Advising the state government on matters related to recruitment rules, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions. Preparing guidelines and exam syllabi for various government job exams. Releasing notifications for Group-I, Group-II, Group-III, and Group-IV services, along with other technical and non-technical posts. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
