Kendrick Lamar enters BET Awards with a leading 10 nominations for the ceremony's 25th anniversary
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kendrick Lamar extends his dominant musical reign, entering next month's BET Awards as the leading nominee.
The rap megastar earned 10 nominations Thursday, including an album of the year for his highly-acclaimed project 'GNX,' the network announced. His ubiquitous diss track 'Not Like Us,' emanating from the Drake feud, received nominations for video of the year and viewer's choice award.
Lamar made waves with his Grammy triumph, winning song and record of the year for 'Not Like Us.' He followed up with a groundbreaking halftime show, becoming the first solo hip-hop performer to headline the coveted slot. He is currently on the Grand National Tour with SZA.
Doechii, Drake, Future and GloRilla tied for the second-most nominations with six. Metro Boomin pulled in five nods, while SZA and The Weeknd each scored four.
Who will host the show?
Kevin Hart is expected to bring the funny as host of the awards show, celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The comedian-actor, who hosted the BET Awards in 2011, called this year's ceremony a 'black-tie affair.'
'It's a chance to reflect, cherish and honor life's unforgettable moments,' Hart said in a statement. He has a history with the network, hosting 'Comic View: One Night Stand' in 2008. He was an executive producer and one of the stars of 'Real Husbands of Hollywood' and launched adult animated comedy 'Lil Kev' on BET+.

The BET Awards will offer tributes to former popular hosts and performances, including the network's once-flagship program '106 & Park. '
"'106 & Park' was more than just a music countdown show; it was the heartbeat of Black youth culture and one of the highest-rated BET programs for over a decade,' said Scott Mills, BET's president and CEO. The weekday show launched in 2000 and lasted for more than a decade.
The show thrived with a video countdown, interviews and performances.
'From Freestyle Friday to unforgettable live performances, it launched careers, influenced fashion, and became a platform where voices, style, and sound converged,' Mills said. "'106 & Park' both celebrated and fueled many of the most important musical and culture evolutions that occurred during its two-and-a-half-decade tenure.'
The show will reunite past hosts A.J. Calloway, Free, Julissa Bermudez, Keshia Chanté, Rocsi Diaz and Terrence J. The tribute will feature performers such as Bow Wow, Amerie, B2K, Jim Jones, Mya, T.I. and Mr. 106 & Park.
When will the awards take place?
The awards will air live on June 9 from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. EDT.

French Open: No. 1 Sinner plays Djokovic and defending champ Alcaraz faces Musetti in semis
PARIS (AP) — It is unusual to think of Novak Djokovic as not being the favorite to win a French Open semifinal, given that his greatest clay-court rival Rafael Nadal has retired. After all, Djokovic has won three titles at Roland-Garros among his men's record 24 Grand Slams. He also owns prestigious winning head-to-head records against 22-time major winner Nadal (31-29) and 20-time major champion Roger Federer (27-23). Yet, when Djokovic faces Jannik Sinner on Friday for a place in Sunday's final, against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz of Spain or No. 8-seeded Lorenzo Musetti, the favorite could be Sinner. Top-ranked Sinner has beaten Djokovic in their past three meetings and four of the past five, including in the 2024 Australian Open semifinals. The Italian is 4-4 against him and 15 years younger than Djokovic, who is 38. Given this, and Djokovic's early losses in Doha, Indian Wells, Monte Carlo and Madrid, his title chances were subdued before the French Open. 'He's a bit underrated,' 2024 French Open runner-up Alexander Zverev said after losing to Djokovic in the quarterfinals on Wednesday. 'A lot of people count him out already. But this year he's had wins over Carlos (Alcaraz) at the Australian Open, he has had a win over me at the French Open. Forget the age.' Losing the match, including a 41-stroke exchange, convinced Zverev that Djokovic was far from a spent force. Just before the French Open, Djokovic won his 100th career title. NEW YORK (AP) — The Sean 'Diddy' Combs sex trafficking trial continues its fourth week of testimony with prosecutors planning to call as a witness a woman who will testify under the pseudonym 'Jane.' She alleges she was abused by Combs and made to participate in drug-fueled 'freak-off' sex marathons. She's one of several witnesses to accuse Combs of violence toward them, including his former girlfriend, the R&B singer Cassie. The Latest: The defense is expected to continue questioning Bongolan For the first hour of testimony Thursday, a defense lawyer is expected to continue the cross-examination of Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan. Thursday's star witness Sometime around noon or after, prosecutors are planning to call as a witness a woman who will testify under the pseudonym 'Jane.' Prosecutors say her testimony will be similar to what the jury heard during the first week of the trial from Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura. Cassie testified for four days about enduring drug-fueled sexual performances for years known as 'freak-offs' to satisfy the music mogul's sexual needs. Jane, who is older than Cassie, was a single mother who began dating Combs in 2020, about two years after the nearly 11-year relationship between Cassie and Combs had ended. Prosecutors say the relationship with Jane began as a romance but soon became reliant on 'freak offs' in which Jane would perform sexually with male escorts while Combs directed the action. Defense lawyers have described Jane as Combs' girlfriend of three years. They say he was more honest with Jane than he was with Cassie, telling her that he was dating multiple women while he was seeing her. Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan, 33, a friend of Combs' former girlfriend Cassie, told jurors that Combs lifted her over the railing for 10-15 seconds before pulling her back and throwing her onto patio furniture. She said the September 2016 attack at Cassie's Los Angeles apartment caused a bruise on her leg and pain to her back and neck. Jurors saw photos of her wearing a neck brace. Her bruise looked like it was the size of a softball. 'One of Them Days' Is Officially Getting a Sequel
We're about to have another One of Them Days. The Issa Rae-produced hit comedy, starring Keke Palmer and SZA, is officially set to return for a sequel. Written by Syreeta Singleton and directed by Lawrence Lamont, the original film followed besties and roommates Dreux (Palmer) and Alyssa (SZA) over a single day in Los Angeles as they scramble to make their rent money before they get evicted. It went on to become one of the most successful original films released this year, grossing over $50 million worldwide. 'It was such a scary thing because I wanted a number one movie,' Rae told the Washington Post in January. 'I wanted it to be successful and simultaneously show that, box-office-wise, there was a demand for this.' Below is everything we know about the forthcoming sequel. Yes! According to Variety, a sequel to One of Them Days is in the works. The film is currently in early development at TriStar Pictures. Palmer and SZA will return as best friends Dreux and Alyssa, respectively. The original creative team will also be coming back. There's no word yet on whether the supporting cast (which includes Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Maude Apatow, Janelle James, Katt Williams, Lil Rel Howery, Joshua Neal, Aziza Scott, Patrick Cage, Dewayne Perkins, Amin Joseph, Gabrielle Dennis, and DomiNque Perry) will be returning, too. While the plot for the sequel is still being kept under wraps, that won't stop us from hypothesizing.
